Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Blood

It was a cool night; the moon was shining a deep crimson red. There was a young man floating atop an ocean of blood, staring off into the sky with empty eyes. The amount of blood was incomprehensible... not even a million people drained of their blood dry would be equivalent to this ocean of blood. Down below, deep under the ocean, there was a boy. He was pale-skinned, had black-colored hair, and was equipped with a thin frame. He was floating in an unconscious state before slowly opening his eyes, which were promptly closed unconsciously.

"Gargle, Grrgle...?" {Where am I...?} The boy speaks as if he has no choice but to convey his thoughts outwardly. The blood rushed rapidly into his mouth, as if trying to escape the ocean... It even looked as if it was trying to assimilate into his own bloodstream; nonetheless, the blood filled his lungs to the brim, slowly suffocating him...

"GAHK, GRagg! Grrrggga!" {Hurts, what? Suffocating...}

"Garg! Gurgg Grag Grurgglrle!" {Swim up, am I up? Which way is up?}

The boy swam up, well, at least in the direction he assumed was up. Not long after, he reached a ceiling, or, to be precise, the ground. He punched the perceived barrier with all the effort he could muster; although it didn't amount to anything, the boy was slowly becoming more in tune with his surroundings. His clouded mind was clearing, slowly albeit.

"Garhrhg? Grarrhg... graaaghrh garhh!" {Why can't I think? No... it's not that I can't think, it's that I can't stop myself from speaking!}

"Gurggle, Gurrrggle. Gurrrgleeee... Grahh? Gurrgle; Grurrgge. Gra, Guraggl... Guraagarggl? Graaaa; gra, gurag." {I can't see, but I can definitely feel. This feeling that surrounds my entire body is similar to water... but it feels more like blood? Not normal blood either; it's incredibly thick. Huh, now that I mention it... why didn't I know that it was blood from when I drank it? Even now it doesn't exactly taste like blood; if anything, it's almost tasteless.}

"Grrurgle, Graagle... Graurrg...-" {Well, whatever the case, I clearly can't die from... it...-}

Suddenly the boy grabbed onto his throat, trying to close his windpipe from sucking in any more blood, his face contracting extremely tightly. "Grragl, Garrgle!" {Why, is it hurting again!}

"Grrua- Gurgg!" {How do I-} {Stop!}

...

"Gruaarg, Gurgl!" {Stop, Thinking!}

"Graa— GURGL!" {I need to—} {I SAID STOP!}

"Grrurrr- GURAGLl!" {But if I c-} {STOP!}

...

The cycle continued nonstop; before long, the boy sat in a lotus position. Time passed similar to a snail's pace, yet even then it seemed to slow more and more. Every few minutes the boy would have an intrusive thought, causing him to immediately attempt to vanquish his thoughts. The pain from suffocating he would feel immediately after was not tolerable. Suffocating by itself is an incredibly painful process; there's a reason water torture exists, but this isn't even water; it's blood, blood that is eerily similar to water. However, it was as if its constitution transforms into a dense gloop once it enters Frenrin's body, increasing the pain and uncomfortability tenfold.

Despite all this, though the boy was being tortured, his mind was being tempered. Instead of devolving into an intangible mess, in actuality, his mind grew sharper! Whenever his mind drifted, he could immediately empty his thoughts before even a complete phoneme exited his mouth from trying to convey his thoughts to the ocean of blood.

...

After an amount of time that seemed endless to the boy, he let his mind think, if only for a single moment.

"Garggle." {Swim.}

The boy sat straight up and kicked off the ground, his legs kicking against the dark-red blood rapidly, his face remaining in a tranquil state. Not long after, not even five minutes later, the boy reached the surface. His head launched out of the sea, his skin was dyed the color red, his eyes turned crimson, and not even his hair could resist against the pigmentation of a dark maroon tone.

The boy did not breathe immediately; in fact, he didn't even react! He kept kicking, kicking, and kicking! He bobbed around in the water similarly to a buoy used in the ocean. It was as if the only thing on his mind was staying in a vertical direction, which actually is the exact case here!

After five minutes of being a buoy, the boy once again regained his thoughts. {...Can-} {Wait, I can see! And I can think!}

He then stared out, staring almost immediately at the crimson-dyed moon; as if he took no note of the moon, he immediately dismissed the oddity, continuing to scan his surroundings. He couldn't recognize anything... until he spotted the dome of Blue-Rose's central building...
