Isaac looked down at her again. He didn't interrupt her, or press her to explain. He just waited.
She didn't continue right away. Her breathing was a little more steady now, though there was still a slight tremble in it. He held her a bit more tightly.
Emily stayed curled against him. Her voice broke the silence.
"It was a happy dream. It showed me glimpse of my childhood. But it became a nightmare when the sky turned red," she said slowly. "And then it stopped but…"
She paused, her fingers tightening slightly on his shirt.
Isaac shifted slightly to see her face, concern flickering in his eyes.
"I remember my parents Isaac. My mom's soft and warm voice used to call out my name. My dad used to pat my head when I sulked."
Her voice wavered, but she didn't stop.
"I saw their love. But their absence hurts more. The nightmare made it look like… they are gone. So what do I do with these memories?"
Tears slipped down from her eyes.
