Chapter 93: Dark Demon Sneaks Alone
Dark Demon, having successfully separated from Diana and Rose, walked alone in a cold and dim corner of the castle.
The further these places were from the teaching area, the fewer students there were.
And senior students would usually head straight for the higher floors, where there were more, higher-starred ghosts!
So the unoccupied areas on the second and third floors of the castle would be the most suitable hunting grounds for lower-year students.
But Dark Demon found that he seemed to have underestimated the gloom and terror of the castle.
It was already late autumn with a sharp drop in temperature, and occasional night breezes would make one shiver involuntarily.
He cupped his hands and blew on them, unable to resist summoning his magic pet – DemiDevimon!
"Are you my master?"
"Yes, I am."
"Eh eh eh???"
Seeing its master, who never usually answered, suddenly reply so normally.
DemiDevimon suddenly felt that the atmosphere was off, and then its face fell.
"Wu, wu, wu..."
The crisp sound of footsteps echoed in the silent and deserted castle, drawing closer with the passage of time.
DemiDevimon shivered, staring at the shadow around the corner ahead.
A Jack O'Lantern, all muscle below the pumpkin, slowly revealed half of itself, a dim candlelight burning in its empty pumpkin head.
"Jack!"
The Jack O'Lantern let out a low roar, its dark muscles instantly bulging. Upon seeing Dark Demon, it suddenly accelerated!
...
"You can't be serious, Officer?"
DemiDevimon let out a terrified scream, the thought of escape instantly forming.
But just as that thought took shape, a dark golden ball of light with a long tail drilled into the back of its head.
DemiDevimon, who had been exceptionally timid just a moment ago, instantly focused its pupils, its eyes filled with deep disdain and contempt for the Jack O'Lantern.
"A mere mongrel that doesn't even exist in the lowest levels of hell dares to roar before me?"
DemiDevimon, using its wings like a cloak to cover its front, actually displayed the demeanor of a Devimon.
It looked down at the Jack O'Lantern out of the corner of its eye and, the moment it rushed over, fired three [Small Darts]!
"Die!"
...
"Pfft!"
One of the syringes pierced the muscle on the Jack O'Lantern's left shoulder, but the other two syringes missed completely.
The Jack O'Lantern had dodged the moment it sensed danger. While its shoulder was hit, it ducked low, then its leg muscles tensed and exploded with power.
"Swoosh!"
It actually leaped up.
Directly crossing the distance between itself and DemiDevimon, its demon-like claws viciously swiped at the airborne DemiDevimon!
"Jack!"
It was as if space itself was being torn apart.
Three dark claw marks appeared in the air!
However, DemiDevimon, which had maintained absolute arrogance from beginning to end without retreating half a step, suddenly vanished into thin air!
"Jack?"
By the time the Jack O'Lantern reacted again, the shark-headed syringe had already pierced the relatively fragile pumpkin wall, hitting the candlelight within the pumpkin's core!
"Pfft!"
The candlelight was abruptly extinguished.
The Jack O'Lantern's falling corpse gradually turned into sparks, leaving only a small, exquisitely wrapped piece of pumpkin pie floating in the air.
Only then did Dark Demon walk over from behind and grab the piece of pumpkin pie.

"Sure enough, it's a three-star ghost?"
Dark Demon carefully unwrapped the tinfoil packaging of the pumpkin pie, put the wrapper away, and then threw the pumpkin pie to DemiDevimon.
"Smack!"
DemiDevimon swatted the pumpkin pie away with one wing.
"I am DemiDevimon, I do not eat food thrown to me!"

...
"An overly arrogant person, if without the strength to match, truly looks more and more like a fool."
Dark Demon silently summarized the experience.
And took it as a lesson.
In the battle with the Jack O'Lantern just now, DemiDevimon stubbornly clung to its deep-seated arrogance and refused to budge.
It was entirely thanks to him promptly using the House Card to forcibly recall it that it dodged the almost fatal claw attack from the three-star [Jack O'Lantern]!
Otherwise, DemiDevimon would probably be tattered and waiting miserably in the House Card to recover.
"But why is this Jack O'Lantern somewhat different from the ones encountered before?"
Recalling the Jack O'Lanterns he had encountered with Diana and the others, Dark Demon felt a bit troubled.
Normal Jack O'Lanterns should clearly be comical ghosts with pumpkin heads and skinny limbs, at most carrying a small axe, and a dull wooden one at that.
But what was with that muscle-bound pumpkin just now?
Professor Kazel shouldn't have such a twisted sense of humor, right?
As he thought about it, Dark Demon's footsteps suddenly froze.
He finally remembered.
While he was diligently grading the first-years' arithmetic homework, the person Professor Kazel had called over to help create ghosts was precisely that little elf named "Lily"!
In that instant, Dark Demon suddenly had a different kind of premonition.
...
Fighting a strong sense of foreboding, Dark Demon turned into a dusty, unused classroom.
Theoretically, when professors placed ghosts, they would always hide the more aggressive ones indoors, or in some hidden corner.
The ghosts that appeared in the corridors to tease students were usually the more comical types.
To earn credits faster, one had to find these hidden ghosts that offered extra point rewards.
Only by walking into the shadows could one reap treasures.
"Bang!"
The two doors at the front and back of the classroom suddenly slammed shut.
The windows on the other side, however, were blown open by a gust of wind. Bright red blood dripped down the old curtains, gradually staining them red.
Dark Demon held his breath, his right hand already reaching into his card case.
DemiDevimon, still in its [Pride I] state, flew in the air with its chin held high.
"Whoosh!"
Another strong gust of wind blew in.
The bright moonlight shone through the gap in the blown-open curtains, bringing a sliver of light into the dark classroom.
Dark Demon clenched his teeth tightly.
Behind the blown-aside curtain, a monster with a human head and a bird's body stood motionlessly on the windowsill, having appeared there at some unknown time.
In its large mouth, which revealed two fangs, it was actually holding a bleeding, severed hand!
Although it was highly unlikely to be a real severed hand, Dark Demon couldn't help but shiver.
"Harpy!"
...
A 10-second countdown to battle.
The proud DemiDevimon, perhaps feeling humiliated by its earlier failure against the Jack O'Lantern.
Now, without needing Dark Demon's command, it fearlessly launched a charge!
"Swift!"
Dark Demon immediately drew a [Happy Card], this time summoning even faster.
The [Happy Card] took effect almost instantly, the emitted light shining into the Harpy's eyes.
This momentary confusion caused the Harpy to miss its first chance to react.
DemiDevimon managed to kick her in the face, sending her flying!
"Kreee—"
The Harpy's shriek came from below the window.
