Caius's POV
Blood doesn't lie. That's the first rule every vampire learns.
I sat alone at the edge of camp, far enough away that the wolves wouldn't smell what I was doing. The small silver bowl in my hands caught the moonlight as I pricked my finger and let three drops of blood fall into the clear water.
"Show me," I whispered.
The water turned red, then black, then cleared to show the grand hall of my court. My chair sat empty, but not for long if my plans worked out. Around the onyx table sat my most trusted advisors—or so I had believed.
"The prince is weak," Lady Sylvia was saying, her pale face twisted with scorn. "He chases a wolf girl while the court crumbles."
My jaw tightened. Sylvia had been my father's favorite. I should have known she would betray me.
"The Midnight Queen offers us protection," Lord Damon added. "All she asks is that we help her capture the Ruby Wolf."
