I felt Zeke fall before I saw it. The cabin shook with the force of his sacrifice, and something old and powerful rushed through the air. The Ruby Wolf's brother had given everything to save her.
"Sienna!" I shouted, fighting through the fading black flames.
She knelt beside her brother's body, her hands glowing with ruby light as she tried to heal him. But some cuts went too deep for even her power to reach.
"We need to move," I told her, my voice gentler than I meant. "The gate is changing."
Above us, the sky was splitting open. The monstrous face was gone, replaced by a whirling vortex of light and darkness. And stepping through it, a wolf made of stars.
"My love," the Midnight Queen whispered, her shadow form reaching upward.
But something was wrong. The starlight wolf's eyes weren't fixed on the Queen. They were looking at us—at Sienna.
"It's a trap," I realized. "That's not who she thinks it is."
