Chapter 20 - First Pull, First Summon

Callum remembered that the Gacha pull was random, and he couldn't just go ahead demanding the summon he wanted.

But he hoped.

"Well, Grandma is definitely a character," Callum said as he pressed on the "Character" icon. He just couldn't get his head off the fantasy of having his grandmother back.

After clicking on the "Character" icon, a bigger icon labeled PULL in full capital letters suddenly appeared, and Callum smashed it instantly.

Callum rolled his eyes as a series of messages followed.

[You have Pulled an SSS-Ranked Summon, Nerissa, Banished Daughter of the Realm of Gods. Bow of Balance!]

"The fuck... is that?" Callum first revealed a sense of disappointment, but the name and title that came with the character made him wonder.

He flinched and looked around, waiting for his summon to arrive.

And within seconds, she did.

A large red portal that looked like a door suddenly appeared about six metres away from Callum's spot, and a woman dressed in a red hoodie garment walked out slowly with a silver bow tucked at her arms, a curious look pasted on her face.

She had dark hair with a tip of gold at the brink, pale skin, and quite a gorgeous look with her physique.

But clearly, none of that mattered...

Nerissa had a stern look on her face, and after observing the whole area, her gaze finally landed on Callum.

Her face seemed to darken a bit after giving the first glance, but then she still walked towards him, calm and collected.

"You... summoned me?" she asked the moment she stopped in front of him.

"Ye... Yes... I did," Callum replied, his voice breaking, nervous.

This lady looked like nothing less than a goddess!

However, at that moment, she suddenly went on her knees and bowed to him, stunning him at once.

"Nerissa, at your service, my Lord," she said firmly.

Callum froze for a moment, staring down. He didn't say anything—just stared at her, who didn't make an inch of movement to rise without him giving the order.

"Am I permitted to rise, my Lord?" she then asked.

"Yes... Sure," Callum said, his voice still breaking.

He later summoned the courage to control the situation, knowing that summoning her meant he was her master. That realization hit him hard as he smiled inwardly but remained composed.

"Do you need my help for anything? Name it, my Lord. I'm ready to give my life," Nerissa said as she bowed slightly.

"No. Not now. I would never need your life as help anyway," Callum said.

"You just have to join me and my friends on our mission," Callum added. "We are assigned to clear most territories in here. Not just that..."

He blinked and hesitated. "I want us to kill the Ground Boss."

Nerissa nodded without hesitation, an approving look on her face. "Accepted, my Lord. I shall join you and fight for you till my death," she spoke.

Callum shook his head. "Okay... Okay, can we just stop talking about that 'death' thing?" he asked.

"Of course, my Lord. I'll do as you command," Nerissa responded.

Callum went straight to collecting the soul of the Ghoul Lord, which had a 43% Compatibility Rate.

With a firm smile, he stored it in the Soul Bank and grabbed the loot—Ghoul Lord's Super-Corrupted Armor, a powerful yet corrupt-looking bone armor that seemed like even the strongest of steels wouldn't cut through it.

He ordered Nerissa to follow him out of the cavern as they quickly approached Alexa, Jon, and Lira, who were outside the cavern, trying to treat Lira.

When they got to the spot where they were, Callum suddenly noticed that things weren't going well there.

While he was frightened by the situation, they were also frightened by his as well.

"Who the heck is that, Callum?!" Jon was quick to ask, as usual.

"Uh, it's my summon. She is one of us now," Callum replied.

"The Gacha System... right?" Alexa didn't find it hard to understand as she tried confirming.

"Yes," Callum responded.

"It's crazy how we left you alone in that cavern, only to see you come out with a human summon. Nice," Jon nodded with a blank look.

"I'm not human. I'm a demi-goddess," Nerissa glared at Jon.

"That's okay. What's wrong with Lira?" Callum quickly bent to her.

"The pain seems to be growing. We removed the spear and used the healing medicine but..." Alexa paused, her face full of worry.

"She might be poisoned, my Lord. The weapons of Ghouls are always poisonous. Especially that of the Knights," Nerissa suddenly notified, drawing Callum's attention back.

"What do we do now? Alexa..." he turned to her. "Do you have any medicine for poison?"

Alexa shook her head with a faint look.

"I don't. Guess I messed up by not bringing one," she clenched her fist.

"Don't worry. I'll kill the poison, my Lord," Nerissa spoke aloud and approached Lira, who was groaning in pain.

Alexa had already tried using some supernatural drugs on it, but they clearly hadn't worked. The intense pain was still there...

Lira had gone through a lot in the past, as young as she was... Callum didn't want anything bad to happen to her.

"Please," he allowed Nerissa to proceed with whatever she wanted to do to save Lira.

Nerissa tapped the ring on her finger and made a very silent mutter, and a small cylindrical golden container appeared from nowhere.

She opened it and poured the contents—white powder that seemed to glow faintly, mysterious.

She poured the powder on the wound, covering all openings, and instantly...

Just at that exact moment...

They all witnessed Lira's wound heal, and it closed at the same time, new flesh growing on it like an onion bulb.

"What... the..." Jon was stunned.

And so were the others.

Rising to her feet, she turned to her master and bowed.

"She is fine now, my Lord."

The group couldn't help but stare in surprise, amazed by her sudden magic. Though it was expected from a healer to cure a poisoned wound, not this fast.

For the rest of the time, they just kept wondering how Callum summoned this goddess...

Because indeed, she looked like one.
