Every step I took felt heavier and heavier and it felt like I could no longer breathe as I slowly climbed the bed and went to check on her.
Nonetheless, the moment I came face to face with her, I didn't need a second confirmation as my body paralyzed in an instant.
She wasn't breathing
And with the way her body was gradually going cold, I could tell it wasn't long ago this happened.
Rage built up on my inside but I didn't want to believe it. I just couldn't.
I brought my hand to her face and wanted to confirm it but I couldn't bring myself to do it but I had to. I carefully placed my index and middle finger against her neck where her pulse rested and that was all the confirmation I needed.
She was dead
But my hand stayed there as tears of rage clouded my vision and my body began to grow hot.
Her eyes were closed like she was sleeping but she wasn't merely sleeping, she was gone ….for good.
"No…." I breathlessly said and lightly patted her cheek.
