Chapter 142 - Chapter 7: Planned Ahead

In the National Security Council's office building in Washington, D.C., Nick Fury was standing in the center of the venue with a serious face, surrounded by twelve members of the Security Council.

The current SHIELD is also subject to special supervision by the Security Council, and SHIELD's budget and special laws are determined by this agency.

"Our world is under threat." This was Nick Fury's opening statement. As the most powerful country in the world, some officials were noncommittal about this statement.

Nick ignored the others and continued, "Our world is under constant threat, as I'm sure you all know."

"There are many forces in this world that we cannot control, and some people can even destroy the earth easily." Nick's expression was serious, and the only useful eye was flashing with a fierce light.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not exaggerating." Nick signaled everyone to listen to him carefully.

"Our world is facing many, many problems, many things we cannot explain, and many unsolved mysteries we don't know about."

"There is a trench that our best submarines cannot penetrate. Every time our submarines are pulled back from that trench, only a pile of scrap metal remains."

"The photos of ruins sent back by the space agency from Saturn's satellites let us know where an advanced civilization once lived, and what exactly happened to them that caused an advanced civilization to disappear from the solar system."

"How brilliant and glorious their civilization once was. Have they ever set foot on Earth? Have they ever left footprints on our planet?"

"Those are all in the past. Maybe that civilization has been extinct for tens of millions of years. We shouldn't worry about history. Maybe it was a war or a disease. These could have caused that civilization to disappear." A member of the Security Council interrupted Nick.

"Yes, war or disease. What kind of war and what kind of disease!" Nick said suddenly and loudly.

"Is it a space war spanning the galaxy? Is it a terrible disease that can be transmitted in the universe?!" Nick's words sounded a bit alarmist.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are not alone in the universe. Not only are there suspicious extraterrestrial life, there are things even on Earth that we cannot understand," Nick emphasized.

"Are you telling me about the time you were attacked by a giant bat and lost almost an entire sky carrier?" an officer said.

At the same time, a portable projection device the size of a USB flash drive was used to project the video onto the wall.

The content played was the scene where Nick Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D. was attacked by the flaming bat transformed by Deacon Firth.

Nick's face twitched a little. These things should not be taken by the Security Council.

"Chief Nick, I hate to say this, but it's clear that you have been hiding a lot from us," said the official who played the video.

He looked very sharp, and although he had a head full of white hair, he was still energetic. His words were sharp and hit Nick's weak spot.

"SHIELD itself should be under our supervision, but Director Nick, you have exceeded your authority many times."

"We were not informed of the fact that the Vampire Bible was fake, and the subsequent battle with the Flame Bats was not reported to the Security Council."

"What exactly have you hidden? I heard that you found a magical little prop? Why didn't you inform us?" The old man's words were aggressive.

Nick Fury looked around and found that many people were whispering. He said loudly, "I have reported the Vampire Bible to Mr. Brenor, a member of the Security Council, and later to His Excellency the President."

"We all think that the fewer people who know about this, the better. As for the problem of the flaming bats, I believe the report is on your desks, but we are all gathered here for a meeting today and you just don't have time to read it."

"As for the mysterious little props you mentioned, forgive me for being frank. Maybe you should change your intelligence officer. Not everyone can find out the secrets of SHIELD." Nick Fury said righteously.

"Okay everyone, we are here to have a discussion, not to quarrel." Brenor stood up to smooth things over.

"Please restrain yourself. Nick Fury should be the most competent commander of SHIELD in all these years. We should trust him."

Brenor's words were echoed by others, and the whispers quieted down.

"Please continue, Nick." Brenor motioned for Nick to continue.

"Let's continue with the previous topic. I think we need an extraordinary defense force to protect us." Nick finally got to the point.

"To solve problems and enemies that cannot be solved by conventional means."

"The last time the Ten Rings kidnapped Tony Stark in New York, we lost face. The Ten Rings, who were beaten and fled in China by the Spear Bureau, appeared in the streets of New York with great fanfare."

"I believe this incident will make Sine, the leader of the SHIELD, laugh at us for a whole year. The SHIELD has organized its own special team."

"We should also organize one to deal with emergencies." Nick's words caused everyone present to fall into a brief silence, because what Nick said was actually something that everyone had tried before.

"So what are your plans Nick? Who are your candidates?" a member of the Security Council asked.

"I have sent people to look for Bruce Banner. I believe we will get the news soon." Nick first mentioned the first candidate.

"Tony Stark, his father was once the founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he has extraordinary talent. The iron armor and rich knowledge reserves will make him another excellent candidate."

"And the outstanding agents Hawkeye and Black Widow of S.H.I.E.L.D. will also be included in this list." Nick continued.

"But this force is not enough, it is still too weak." One member questioned. "What can these people do?"

"It's not just these people, we should expand the scope of our efforts. Gentlemen, it's time to put aside our prejudices. I propose to rebuild the X-Men." Nick's words were like a bolt from the blue.

"No! Impossible." a voice shouted.

"You're crazy! You've forgotten how much trouble they caused." This was a female member, and her scream was as if someone had stepped on her foot.

"No, absolutely not. Mutants are too dangerous!" This was another old voice, with fear in his tone.

"Quiet, everyone, quiet." Nick Fury shouted loudly, signaling everyone to be quiet.

"You have to know that mutants are a threat to Nick Fury." The old man who had been questioning Nick spoke again.

"Don't forget, we once tried to form a mutant team."

"Yeah, I know, the original X-Men, the Professor, Beast and a few others." Nick left out some of the names intentionally.

"Others? Ha! Okay, even if it's others." The old man seemed a little angry. He thought he was being teased.

"Don't forget what the Hellfire Club did. They started a war and almost destroyed the world!" Along with the old man's roar, there were voices of agreement from others.

"But don't forget that it was the mutants who saved the war," Nick argued.

"Remember, it was Captain America who saved the war!" The blond old man said this powerfully. "Mutants are just the opposite of heroes. They don't deserve to be heroes."

Nick Fury feels a deep sense of frustration, and even people in his position often feel powerless.

In fact, it should be said that it is precisely because he is in this position that he is more likely to feel powerless and constrained everywhere. Moreover, there are always countless pairs of eyes staring at him, and countless evil wolves staring at his position.

For example, the information that the old man just brought out clearly showed that there was a spy inside SHIELD, which almost put Nick in a passive position.

People in his position must have great faith and be firm and not easily shaken. Otherwise, once there is a wavering in their hearts, the whole situation will inevitably collapse.

He knew very well that mutants were not so easy to control, especially in an era when the whole society resisted mutants.

There are many dangers of mutants. One of them is that they cannot control their own abilities. This kind of people is the most numerous. They always release their abilities unintentionally and hurt others.

This caused many people to stay away from mutants and begin to feel fear and isolation.

It is the emergence of this emotion that causes the psychology of many mutants to begin to become distorted, because they cannot easily make friends.

They can't even find a normal job, and these situations make the social status of mutants even more embarrassing. And because they don't have a stable job.

In order to survive, many mutants have turned to crime.

Because of this problem, society further distances itself from and excludes them, which creates a terrible vicious cycle.

The US government at that time tried to use the power of mutants. They formed a secret team to fight against supernatural forces.

But the ending was tragic, and because of this incident, a terrible mutant revolutionary leader and the Brotherhood of Mutants led by him were born.

Nick Fury did not make this suggestion today on a whim, but because he really felt that he had too few cards in his hand, and that more and more problems and pressures would be on him in the future. He was afraid that he would collapse if he could not control it well.

He suddenly felt a little envious of Sine of the SHIELD. The cards in his hand were much better than his own. At least the Chinese government allowed the formation of mutant teams.

The X-Men can only be a supernumerary organization, or even not an supernumerary organization, and they have to take the blame from time to time.

"Director Nick, we need to be more cautious about the issue of rebuilding the X-Men." Even Brenor, who always supported Nick, spoke cautiously.

"You should broaden your horizons and try to find other candidates. Regarding the Avengers plan you submitted, we have temporarily approved it, but you still need to submit a list of candidates in the end."

"I understand." Nick's one-eyed face was somewhat unwilling. This world might be more dangerous than these people knew. This was his intuition. "My most important candidate will have to wait until there is progress in the exploration near the North Pole before he can submit it."

The problem of mutants cannot remain unsolved forever. When the conflict really breaks out, it will probably not be easily resolved.

In the original timeline, Nick would have more time and a stronger hand.

But because a certain butterfly keeps flapping its wings, the world line is becoming more and more chaotic. Especially since this butterfly is getting stronger and stronger, where will it lead this world?

"Mr. President, will the new bill be released to the public as previously scheduled?" The White House Secretary-General asked the country's most powerful leader.

"Everything is going according to plan." The president ordered without any extra words.

After walking out of Matt's law firm, Jason felt that he had accomplished another great thing. Matt expressed his willingness to become the legal advisor of the new company.

The winter sun was warm on his body, and Jason's steps became much lighter as he stepped on the slightly icy ground.
