Chapter 183 - Chapter 183: Why aren't you afraid that I'll fall and die?!

Wade immediately ignored the first two items and opened the system descriptions for the third and fourth.

[Flying Charm:A unique flying spell personally developed by the Dark Lord Voldemort. Only the most loyal and trusted Death Eaters were taught this spell directly by the Dark Lord. Once learned, it allows the caster to fly through the air without the aid of any tools.]

[Magical Creature Affinity:A talent-type ability. Wizards with this gift can instinctively grasp the general intent of magical creatures. Additionally, all magical creatures—even the most ferocious beasts—will feel a sense of goodwill toward you at first sight. Of course, while this talent is powerful, it's not omnipotent. Hungry beasts never care whether their food is cute, so proceed with caution...]

"Very nice!" Wade was quite satisfied with both items.

There was no need to even mention the Flying Charm—being able to fly without any tools made it incredibly useful in all kinds of situations.

Whether in combat or retreat, it would no doubt be highly effective.

As for Magical Creature Affinity… though it did cost a hefty 5,000 merit points, it would be immensely helpful for the magical creature taming experiments he was about to begin.

Besides, Wade wasn't exactly short on merit points at the moment.

Without hesitation, he purchased both items.

The moment Wade purchased the items, a magical manuscript appeared in his hand.

At the same time, he felt as if something within his body had undergone a very subtle change.

Whether it was a physical shift or something to do with his magical power, Wade couldn't quite tell just yet.

Looking at the 42,700 merit points he had left, Wade was now eagerly anticipating the next night's shop refresh.

He closed the store interface and turned his gaze to the manuscript in his hand.

"Hm? Why does this handwriting look so much like mine?" Wade stared at the script in surprise.

Suddenly, a line of small text appeared on the title page:

[As this spell has not yet been invented in this timeline, the inventor has been reassigned to host Wade Reynolds.]

Just as he finished reading it, the line of text vanished from view.

"Oh… so because I've become the inventor, the handwriting changed to match mine?" Wade muttered to himself.

As he flipped through the manuscript, the more he read, the more familiar it all seemed.

By the time he finished flipping through the manuscript, Wade had already become deeply familiar with the derivation process of the spell.

He could even remember the feeling of writing each stroke in the manuscript, as if he had personally spent countless days and nights researching this spell.

It felt as though… he really had invented it himself.

"Ah, sorry about that, Tom… I accidentally stole your thunder," Wade said lightly.

Over in the dining room, Tom suddenly sneezed, and an odd sense of loss crept up in his heart—like something that was originally his had quietly slipped away.

At the moment, Wade hadn't actually tested the spell yet, but he already had an instinctive grasp of how to use it.

After all, he was the one who had "invented" it.

He put the magical manuscript away and decided to test his new magical beast affinity skill first.

Wade headed straight to the living room.

There, in front of the fireplace, he found Tom the cat sound asleep.

Even though it was already summer and the fireplace hadn't been lit in a while, the rug in front of it was still Tom's favorite spot out of habit.

Tom looked on in confusion as Wade dashed up and down the house early in the morning.

He was extremely puzzled, but in the spirit of "the less trouble, the better," he decided not to ask any questions.

Tom just felt utterly stifled living in this house.

But… he didn't dare go out and find another place to live just yet.

It wasn't about money—he actually had more of it now than Wade did.

The real problem was… both he and Wade had completely offended Grindelwald at this point.

After all, thanks to their "contributions," an entire squad of Grindelwald's elite Alliance members had been wiped out.

You could say that grudge was carved in stone.

There was no way he'd risk living on his own.

At that moment, Wade began enthusiastically rubbing Tom the cat's head with both hands.

He woke the sleeping cat straight out of his nap.

"Eat, sleep, sleep, eat… Tom, you've gotten so fat I barely recognize you anymore!"

Tom's face darkened at Wade's words—he was certain this bastard was taking liberties with him! And worse, he had proof!

"Meow?" Tom the cat looked up at Wade cautiously.

As if to say, "I'm just a little kitty. Isn't it my job to eat when I'm full and sleep when I'm tired?"

Yes, the moment Wade had woken him up and started asking questions, he'd somehow instinctively understood part of what the cat meant.

It was a very strange feeling.

Not as clear as Legilimency, but it carried an odd sense of mutual understanding, as if their minds were in sync.

"I think you might need a companion, Tom… how about a little mouse?" Wade said.

Tom the cat let out a disdainful meow, as if to say, "That thing tastes awful."

"It's a companion, not food! Never mind… let me ask you this—do you notice anything different about me today?" Wade asked.

Tom the cat raised a paw to cover his mouth and let out a very human-like yawn, then blinked sleepily at Wade.

Suddenly, he perked up. The whole cat seemed energized. He stood up, circled Wade a few times, then sniffed him up and down.

Eventually, Tom the cat dragged over a piece of parchment from who-knows-where and began scratching at it with his claws.

Rustle! Rustle!

Tom handed the parchment to Wade.

Wade looked down and saw a crooked line of text written across the surface.

["Master! You smell so good!"]

"Huh? That's it? Just the smell? Eh… wait a second! When did you learn how to write? And—how the hell did you even write this without any ink, using your claws?!"

Tom awkwardly smiled, hiding his "hands" behind his back.

"Tom, what else are you hiding from me?"

"Meow?"

"Don't tell me you've been pretending to be clueless just so you wouldn't have to do chores?"

"Meow!"

"Starting today, you're taking on part of Toby's work. Tom, don't call me heartless—because the moment you used magic to write in front of me, you stopped being just an ordinary pet cat…"

"Kyeeeeoooowwwww!!" Tom the cat let out a miserable wail.

Humanoid Tom, who had been watching Wade talking to a cat like a lunatic, had just begun to conclude that the guy had finally lost it.

But the moment he saw Tom the cat writing on paper, he almost thought he had gone mad instead…

When the woeful feline was eventually led away by an overly excited Toby, Tom finally couldn't help but ask, "What exactly did you do to that poor cat? It… unless I'm losing my mind, it looked like it was writing?"

"Oh, it can do more than just write, Tom…" Wade replied, stressing the name Tom with particular relish.

Tom's face turned green. "I'm writing home to my Muggle grandfather immediately… I swear, I'm changing my name!"

"Really? But wasn't that the name your mother gave you on her deathbed?" Wade asked, feigning deep sorrow.

"You…" Tom was momentarily at a loss for words. Now that he thought about it, changing the name really wouldn't be so simple…

"Hmm… Tom, if that expression of yours isn't just an act, then it seems like you've made some heartening progress! Oh, our little Tommy boy is finally becoming a good person!" Wade said cheerfully.

"You don't know anything," Tom retorted awkwardly.

If someone called him a villain, he wouldn't care at all—because he was well aware he really was one.

But if someone said he was turning into a good person… he'd be so mortified he could dig through the soles of his shoes with his toes.

"Alright, enough joking," Wade said, handing the piece of parchment to Tom. "Tom the cat isn't just a cat that can write. He can also use magic. Writing without ink? That's a basic application of the Transfiguration Charm, isn't it?"

Tom stared at the crooked handwriting on the parchment, his eyes widening slightly. "A cat that can use magic? Wade, what kind of monster have you created…"

"Many new spells have come about from unexpected factors, Tom. I've told you before, Tom the cat's condition was a fluke. But if the opportunity arises… that fluke might just become a great one," Wade said with a smile.

"A great fluke? All I see is you creating an army of monsters to take over the world!"

"Heh~ There you go being shallow again. I've told you before, violence is only a support tool! Ruling the world through force is the stupidest approach!"

"Why are you telling me this? It's not like I want to rule the world," Tom said with disdain.

"What? You don't want to rule the world?" Wade looked at him in shock.

Tom scoffed, "You always say I might be a future menace, but… look at what you've said to Grindelwald, then look at what you're saying to me. Wade, the biggest menace in the world is you."

"Tom, you don't understand. The process doesn't matter at all—only the result. As long as the outcome is good, that's all that counts," Wade said calmly. "Whether it's Grindelwald, or you… even the slightest change is an act of great merit (points)…"

Tom didn't understand a word of it—he just thought Wade was acting even more insane than usual today.

"Let's change the subject, Tom. I've invented a new spell—want to try it?"

"What kind of new spell?" Tom asked.

"A spell that lets you fly without using any tools!"

Tom was silent for a long moment before he suspiciously asked, "Don't tell me… you've never actually tested it, and now you want to use me as your test subject?"

"Sigh… I don't really have a choice. I'm afraid I'll fall and die," Wade said helplessly.

"Are you even listening to yourself? Then why aren't you afraid that I'll fall and die?!"
