Veronica's POV
The shock kept me from saying anything, even as she opened her mouth to talk.
"Did you see that Monica dear? She is trying to poison me! I don't know what it is about her that she finds so special. I would make sure Lloyd fires her. She is so rude!" She said, going on and on in a bid to justify her actions.
I was angry, my fingertips already cracking from the amount of pressure I placed on them as I dug into my palm.
" That is not fair! Stop that!" Cade yelled at her.
" You rotten child! Shut your stupid mouth or I would shut it for you" she yelled back.
" You won't dare!" Cade said.
I just stood there, watching both of them banter until she got up, heading towards where cade stood firmly and raised her hands.
" And what is going on here?" The voice of alpha Lloyd boomed, causing everyone to jump, startled.
Cade ran to meet him, his eyes tearing up.
" Your new girlfriend was about to hit me" he said.
Alpha Lloyd's eyes formed into stilts as he turned his attention to Emily.
" That's not true baby, you know I would never hit him. I love him" Emily said.
" Cade, go upstairs and get some rest" he said, without looking at him.
I did not dare turn to look at him or at the ascending cade. I was frozen in my spot there, the embarrassment getting the best of me.
" You all decided to fight like kids, and you were not mature enough to not do it in front of my son?!" He yelled and I jumped again, wishing I could crawl under the chair and stay there till infinity.
" It's not our fault. Your maid here served Emily with poisoned water." Monica said, spitting out the words like I was some sort of vile creature.
I could now feel his stare on me and I thought I would melt into a puddle if he kept staring at me that intensely.
Finally, he looked away, turning to look at Monica now.
" And who told you she was my maid? " He said.
Monica grappled for words but he did not let her compose her sentence before turning to look at me.
" I told you from the very first time you started working here that you only answer to cade and I. " He said, his voice still cold.
" I'm sorry sir" I managed to mutter out.
"And Monica I asked you to come tomorrow to pick up cade, so why are you in my house now?" He asked.
She adjusted her seating position and cleared her throat.
" Well I heard a small rumor that you were harbouring a homeless person in your house so I decided to come check it out myself" she said.
The words stung me and I shifted uncomfortably on my feet, wishing it would all come to an end so I could go up into my room and cry.
" Never! Never speak about her like that or I would make sure you really pay for it, sibling or not!" Alpha Lloyd yelled, his voice so loud, his wolf brimming to the surface.
For the first time, I met with his gaze and the intense anger in his eyes hit me like a wave, nearly sending me down on my feet in shock.
I was glad to know that I was not the only one weakened by his voice because Monica sat there too, a small look of fear in her eyes.
He finally turned to look at Emily and she was already shivering before he even spoke.
" And what are you doing here?" He asked.
" Well , I was trying to reach your phone to tell you why you have not called me about the gala yet. But when you did not pick I decided to come over to talk to you" she said.
" I was going to take you to the gala. But a woman that has the guts to hit a child should never be seen anywhere around me" he said.
His voice was now calm, as though all the anger he felt had dissipated but one look in his eyes told me that was far from being the truth.
" What? But you can't do that! The gala is in two days from now and you have to take a date with you." She said.
She almost seemed certain that he would be taking her and it almost made me gag. The sheer desperation of it.
" I know, and that is why I would be taking her" he said.
It took me a few seconds to realize that I was the her he was talking about.
" No no no, I won't let you drag the family's name down the mud by taking a no good, ugly whore to such an important gala!" Monica said, suddenly getting her voice back.
" It's the fact that you somehow think you have a say in my life. I would take whoever I want and there is nothing you can do about it. And stop going on and on about a family name! I AM the family name". He said, sending shivers down my spine.
Finally, he turned back to look at Emily.
" I want you to leave my house and never ever step your foot inside. Whatever arrangement we had between us is terminated. I would ask my assistant to send you the details. And while you are at it, make sure to tell your father that the deal between our companies is cancelled too" he said.
He did not wait for any of us to recover from the shock, he just turned, leaving all of us standing there with our mouths open.
I could feel their glares on the back of my neck as I ascended the steps but I had to ask him, I had to ask if what he said back there was a mere ruse to throw them off or if he was being serious about me going to a gala with him.
I had barely knocked on the door when he opened it, completely shirtless, his abs staring at me in plain sight.
