Chapter 8 - Meeting A Fake Superd

Notes: Information you may have missed in Mushoku Tensei: The Second Rebirth…

1. Rudeus/Oldeus started practicing with his magic spells when he was one and a half years old.

Also, I wanna notify you all that Rudeus/Oldeus won't be 10 times stronger due to him having the opportunity to train at a much younger age compared to his last life.

That implies that he has 10 times more mana, which is not viable.

RedRedmption_157 told me this in the comment section—so special thanks to this individual.

Rudeus/Oldeus will simply have a slightly👌 larger mana pool compared to his previous life in the canonical series.

2. Rudeus started teaching Sylphiette magic when she was three years old in this Mushoku Tensei AU fanfiction light novel story.

3. Lilia isn't afraid or freaked out by Rudeus/Oldeus compared to the canon timeline.

4. I also added emojis within the texts. For chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8; so check them out if you are interested.

5. Lastly special thanks to Moamen_awad. He assisted me with this chapter as well. He adds in his own written paragraphs for the interactions between Paul and Laws.

Laws POV

Ever since my daughter was born with green hair, I knew the world would view her as a demon with devilish hair. At her birth, my wife, Rose, looked at me in shock. Neither she nor I had green hair.

Panicking, my wife insisted that she had not been unfaithful. Of course, I knew that she loved me with all her heart. I never doubted her. On the contrary, I felt sorry for her.

I suspected that hair had something to do with my ancestor. I was a half-elf. My father's identity was uncertain, and my mother had never told me about her lineage.

Sylphiette's hair must have been my father's or my mother's ancestor's blood coming out.

"My family is the problem," I told my wife. "Thank you for giving birth to her for us." After that, Rose started crying. My wife herself was the child of a beastfolk slave and an unknown stranger.

Neither of us knew our fathers. But we still met each other, fell in love, and raised a child together despite our past circumstances.

Afterward, we cried in each other's arms, then pledged to the God Millis that we would raise this child with love. After our daughter's birth, I went to consult the villagers straight away.

I told them my daughter had green hair, but that did not mean she was evil. If there was anything I could do for the village, I would do it.

I asked them to do their best to set aside their prejudice and accept her. I expect they agreed because of my good conduct up until then.

I had settled in the village back when it was first established, and until the arrival of Paul Greyrat, our resident knight, it had been my job alone to keep monster numbers down.

I had built a good relationship with the villagers. That was the reason. And the villagers were good folks, besides.

That was the Asura Kingdom for you. When the land was prosperous, even the villagers were open-hearted. In any other country, we would have undoubtedly faced persecution.

But in this village, even our daughter could grow up happy and healthy. That was the optimistic view we took back then. And when my daughter turned three years old, Paul introduced his son Rudeus to me and Sylphiette at the village's watchtower.

Rudeus is a nice and lively child. He didn't show any prejudice towards Sylphiette because of her green hair.

Honestly, I was expecting him to act immature and treat my daughter unfairly because of her devil hair. But instead, he kindly introduced himself to her…He even complimented her name too. Saying it sounded like a wind spirit.

Hearing him say that, sure did make her blush bright red. Seeing that puppy love moment between the two of them was pretty cute.

Ever since they first met, Rudeus and Sylphiette became childhood friends. For the past several months, Rudeus with either his mom or dad visited my household to play with my daughter.

Knowing that my daughter has a good friend who doesn't treat her differently because of her green hair. Filled my heart with joy. At least she won't feel lonely without making a single friend, during her early childhood. I can only hope and pray that their friendship will last for many years.

I also found out that Rudeus has secretly been teaching my daughter magic too. It didn't bother me in the slightest. Neither was my wife. I already knew Rudy was learning magic from his tutor Roxy. The Saint-tier demon girl with blue hair.

Rudeus no doubt wanted to show off his magical talent in front of his best friend. Afterward, I think Sylphiette asked him to teach her magic too. Me and Rose willingly accepted Rudy teaching Sylphiette magic.

So long as she doesn't use magic spells inside the house. The last thing I want is a blasted hole in the wall, inside my house. I'm sure her magic spells will come in handy in the distant future when she's a grown-up woman. Now she has magic to defend herself, in case someone discriminates against her.

My main concern right now is that me and my wife are worried that our daughter might possibly belong to the Superd race.

So I promised my wife, Rose, that I'd ask Paul if he could schedule a meeting for Roxy to visit my family's household in the afternoon. So she could verify if my daughter is a Superd or not.

It was the middle of the morning, me and Paul was currently patrolling outside of the village for any signs of monsters as usual. Then I decided to strike up a conversation with Paul.

"You know what Paul, I was afraid of the fact that Phi was born with green hair and she may suffer a lot of discrimination in the future. But, when I saw Rudeus treat her friendly. Just like how normal children are supposed to be. It gave me some relief."

"You remember about the green hair problem Rawls, you know I told you I saw a couple of people with green hair in my adventurer days and they weren't Superds, but most of them have a great ability for magic," Paul replied honestly to his good friend.

"Ahh, funny that you mention that. Your son was at my house a few days ago teaching Phi magic. He even healed her hand using an intermediate healing magic spell to remove the burned scar mark on the palms of her hands. Also, Rudy said he had been teaching her magic spells for a couple of months, and asked for permission to continue teaching her."

Paul muttered to himself. "That sneaky little brat." Then he said in a high voice… "HE WAS TEACHING HER MAGIC!? So that's why he was spending so much time with Sylphy. Maybe Roxy would like to teach her too if she has a great aptitude for magic just like my son."

"I am truly grateful that your son became Phi's childhood friend. But, why are you surprised? Also, you are talking about Roxy, the little blue-haired demon girl who's staying at your house, teaching Rudy magic?"

Paul started thinking to himself…

(Honestly for a moment there I thought Rudy was doing something naughty to Sylphy when he said he was playing at her house.)

Paul was trying to get the right words across without angering his friend.

"Uh…Um…Yeah, I was just surprised because he was teaching her dangerous magic in secret. Magic isn't a game or a toy. He could've seriously hurt little Sylphy or she might hurt herself. A few weeks ago he destroyed my study wall and Roxy already finished teaching him all the intermediate spells. And now she's teaching him advanced magic spells. I swear, that boy is gonna become a powerhouse someday."

Laws responded to Paul. "Yeah, he is a good youngster and a natural-born prodigy when it comes to magic. (Not something I expected from a Greyrat) He is even humble and kind-hearted too. And this Roxy girl teaches Rudeus magic, despite being so young. She must be a talented magician for her age."

"Uhh yeah about that—don't call her young or small in front of her. She's actually in her thirties and is from a demon race who stays young forever." Paul said while rubbing the back of his head. Because the way he explained it…sounds pretty unbelievable to the common folks.

"Two days ago, Zenith told me while giggling that she told her that she's 37. And, Zenith didn't believe her, maybe because she hadn't met many demon races before. During our adventurer days, I remember Roxy saying to Rudeus that she has a lot of experience in adventuring and I don't rule that out. She recalled seeing most of the world."

"By the way Paul, could you introduce Roxy to my family in the afternoon tomorrow? I want her to see my daughter and talk about her green hair at my house. And ease my wife's worries, she's a little concerned that Phi might be a Superd. It would make her feel a lot better to hear from a professional." Laws requested his old friend.

"Sure, I'll ask Roxy to visit you on her day off. When she is taking a break from teaching Rudy. I'll train my son in the meantime." Paul suggested it to his friend.

"Thank you, Paul, you are really helping me out here." Laws said, feel quite grateful to Paul.

"Oh don't worry about it, I'll see you later Rawls," Paul said as he waved his friend goodbye.

Evening~

"I'm home," Paul announced to everyone while opening the front door of the house, welcoming everyone, and giving Zenith a kiss on the lips.

"Welcome back, dear. Do you want dinner now or a bath?" Zenith asked.

"I'd like to have dinner first please," Paul replied.

"Alright then, me and Lilia will go set the dishes on the table," Zenith answered.

Tonight's dinner was sorted with various foods. Such as fried sweet potatoes, salt-grilled meat, stir-fried seasoned veggies, toasted mushrooms, pound cake, water and fruit juice.

While everyone in the Grayrat household were eating their dinner together. Paul decided that it was a good opportunity to ask Roxy to visit Law's family. At his house tomorrow in the afternoon. So she can ease their concerns about Sylphiette.

"By the way Roxy, I was wondering if you could visit my good friend Rawls and the rest of his family. They want you to see if their daughter is a Superd or not because she was born with natural green hair." Paul explained to Roxy.

"Funny that you say that Sir Paul, I was going to ask you to schedule a time for me to visit Rawls as well."

"Really, why?"

"Because a while ago when I was teaching Rudy the history of magic, and geography and detailing the multiple races around the world. He revealed that his friend Sylphy was born with green hair when we started talking about the demon race and the Superd Tribe."

"Ahh I see, speaking of my son, I thought you should all know that I heard from Rawls that Rudy taught little Sylphiette magic in secret until he revealed the truth to him a few days ago. What do you have to say for yourself?" Paul said in a fatherly tone in his voice.

"Rudy, you have been teaching Sylphy magic? That's…Incredible, my baby must have a natural talent for tutoring others just like little Roxy. Rudy, do you perhaps want to become a magic teacher when you grow up?" Zenith said, showing starlit eyes of admiration for her gifted son.

"Uhh, Zenith you're missing the point again😅?" Paul replied in a worried tone and a grinning face with sweat on his forehead. "Our son shouldn't be teaching magic to a little child like Sylphiette. She could've seriously injured herself or accidentally hurt someone."

"I agree with Paul, Rudy, why did you teach Sylphiette magic in the first place? That is very irresponsible. You should know better, that magic isn't a toy or game. It's a dangerous tool that causes harm and possibly even death intentionally or unintentionally." Roxy explained to Rudy with a concerned facial expression.

Rudeus POV

Mmm, Master Roxy and Paul do have a fair point there. But I had my reasons for teaching Sylphy.

I want her to become much stronger in the distant future compared to my previous timeline. By increasing her mana quantity by stimulating her mana from a young age.

Also having Sylphy learn and understand magic early is beneficial for her development too.

Now she'll have the power and knowledge necessary to defend herself against the village children when they start bullying her once she becomes four years old and Roxy eventually leaves Buena Village around the same time.

Besides I can't always protect her, there will be moments when I'll be too busy trying to save both our family from the teleportation disaster.

Lastly, it looks like lying or saying sorry isn't enough. Instead, I'll tell them the truth with my subtle twist.

Rudeus responded to everyone at the dinner table. "I'm sorry, everyone." He said and bowed his head apologetically. Then he raised his head to continue speaking, showing good eye contact.

"Although I don't regret teaching Sylphy magic. I gave her the same education as Master Roxy. I didn't teach her magic irresponsibly just to show off. I did it so she could defend herself against discriminating; due to her green hair being related to the Superd Tribe. Also, there was no rule saying I couldn't teach Sylphy magic so she could protect herself from prejudice. Lastly Mr.Laws and Mrs.Rose already gave me the approval to teach Sylphy magic."

Paul sighed, comprehending the reason why Rudy was teaching Sylphy magic. "I-I understand Rudy, I guess your heart was in the right place. And I don't think you could've refused to teach her magic if she'd asked you. Sometimes a Grayrat can't say no to a pretty lady."

"Honestly, I think both of you are making a big deal out of this. I think my little Rudy is smart and capable enough to teach a girl like Sylphy with no issue whatsoever." Zenith said, believing in her talented son without question.

"I believe in your words Rudy and trust your judgment. Just be careful when teaching your friend magic okay? I don't want anything bad to happen to my favorite student." Roxy said, showing a sincere smile on her face while giving Rudy headpats.

Roxy responded. "By the way Sir Paul, I'll gladly visit Mr.Laws and Mrs.Rose's house to see Sylphy for myself the next day. Since tomorrow is my day off from teaching Rudy."

"Thanks, Roxy, I'm sure Rawls and Rose will greatly appreciate it," Paul replied with a happy smile on his face. Afterward, the residents of the Greyrat household went back to eating their dinner cheerfully as usual.

The Next Day~

Roxy POV

The next day in the afternoon, Mr.Paul had arranged for me to visit Mr.Laws's household at his request. To check if their daughter might be a Superd. I'm currently outside their residence awaiting their arrival after I previously knocked on the door a few times.

When Laws opened the door, revealing himself and his wife. I kindly introduced myself and responded to them. "I am Roxy Migurdia, It's a pleasure to meet you," I greeted the Laws' family and bowed my head with the utmost respect.

"…Wha?" Mrs.Rose gasps…Now there's a reaction I see quite often in this humble village.

"You're the blue-haired demon girl that Paul talked about, correct?" Rose asked Roxy.

Roxy answered, "Yes indeed Ms.Rose, Rudy informed me that your daughter was born with natural green hair and your husband asked Sir Paul to bring me here. So I can see your daughter. If she's actually a Superd."

"Thank you for coming to see us, Ms.Roxy. Please come inside. While my wife is serving you tea. I'll bring Sylphiette so you can meet each other. She's probably practicing her magic spells outside." Laws replied, acting like a good host to the bluenette girl. While Roxy was quietly sipping on her tea for a few minutes. Laws entered the house, alongside Sylphiette.

Roxy flinched a little when she saw the green-haired girl. After getting a closer expectation she realized Sylphiette wasn't a Superd. Due to her not having an oval-shaped red gemstone embedded on her forehead. Which is a notable trait among the Superd Tribe members.

"Go on Phi, introduce yourself to our guest." Laws said, patting her daughter on the back. Asking her to respectfully greet Roxy in person.

"It's nice to meet you, my name is Sylphiette." Sylphiette kindly greeted Roxy, showing a somewhat shy facial expression.

"Likewise, it's a pleasure to meet you too. My name is Roxy Migurdia, Rudy told me a lot about you, Sylphy." Roxy said.

"You know, Rudy!? So you're that beautiful, talented, and wise magic tutor Rudy told me about." Sylphiette replied, showing starlit eyes.

Geez Rudy, so this is how you praise me in front of your best friend…I don't mind though, but I'm not that special😅.

"Thank you for the compliment little Sylphy," Roxy said while blushing, as she happily patted Sylphiette's head and gently rubbed her emerald green hair.

"Ahem, anyway Sylphy, the reason I'm here visiting you and your parents today. Is due to Rudy telling me that you were born with green hair. Then Sir Paul and your father schedule a meeting so I can see you for myself today and ease your parents' worries about your green hair. I'm quite knowledgeable about the demon race and the fact that very few humans and human hybrids are naturally born with green hair."

"Seriously? I'm not the only person who was born with green hair like that, despite not being a demon?" Sylphiette asked in a curious tone.

"So my daughter isn't a Superd?" Rose asked Roxy while sitting on the dining chair.

"Yes…Your daughter isn't a Superd and not related to the demon race. Members of the Superd Tribe have a red gemstone on their forehead. It's a notable trait among their race. It's their Third Eye that helps them detect mana from living beings. That's how I know your daughter isn't a Superd."

"People being born with green hair is a natural phenomenon that happens to humans, human hybrids, and half-humans alike. I have traveled around the world as an adventurer and I have seen two or three male adventurers with green hair who are considered strong magicians." Roxy explained to Laws's family and continued further. "Although I don't know if people being born with green hair is a curse or supernatural."

"All I can do is reassure you that your daughter isn't a Superd or a member of the demon race. I also recommend that she stays strong and assertive against discrimination once she's an independent adult woman out on her own. Along with knowing that she is loved and appreciated by her caring parents and her best friend Rudy."

"Lastly, you should teach Sylphy how to be very respectful and polite to everyone. So she can avoid prejudice from other people. An old friend of mine from the demon continent taught me that."

Roxy suggested to Laws and Rose. Informing them on everything they knew about green hair and how they should treat their daughter going forward. Which substantially erased their worries about their daughter's green hair. "I-I understand, thank you for everything, Ms.Roxy." Laws replied while bowing his head with gratitude. And his wife did the same thing.

"Thank goodness my baby girl isn't a demon or a Superd. We can't thank you enough Ms.Roxy," Rose said, crying happy tears while compassionately hugging her daughter.

"It was my pleasure and thank you for inviting me," Roxy said, bowing her head to Laws, and then raising her head to continue talking. "The sun is setting and I better return back to Greyrat family house. Zenith wouldn't be too thrilled if I returned late with my dinner ending up cold."

"Will I see you again, Ms.Roxy?" Sylphiette said, feeling a little saddened by the fact that Roxy had to leave so soon.

"Sure little, Sylphiette. Next time I will bring Rudy too. So we can all play together." Roxy said with a delightful smile on her face, reassuring Sylphy that they'd meet each other again.

"Goodbye, Ms.Roxy," Sylphy said, waving her hand goodbye as Roxy departed from her house, bathed underneath the breathtaking orange sunset. While her parents bowed their heads.
