Morning light spilled softly into the room as Jonathan slowly woke up, rubbing his messy hair and blinking away the last bits of sleep. He looked around, still a little groggy, when Walter quietly walked in.
"Morning, Jonathan," Walter said with a soft smile.
Jonathan sat up, stretching, and smiled back. "Morning. When did you get here?"
Walter shrugged and sat on the edge of the bed. "Came early. Didn't want to miss you."
Without thinking, Walter reached out and placed his hand gently on Jonathan's cheek.
Jonathan smiled, his tired eyes softening. He covered Walter's hand with his own. "I missed you too."
Walter chuckled. "Go wash your face. Breakfast is almost ready."
Jonathan nodded and stood, heading toward the bathroom. Walter sat down, picking up a book, but kept glancing at the door.
After a moment, Jonathan came back, looking more awake. Walter stood, closing the book, and called him over.
"Come here."
