Chapter 27 - Food or Divine Revelation?

Succubi Chapter 27. Food or Divine Revelation?

Evelyn and I watched, waiting for his reaction.

A long, silent pause.

Then— Leon slammed his hands onto the table.

"WHAT THE FK IS THIS?!"

Half the cafeteria turned to look at us.

I facepalmed. "Leon—"

"NO. WHAT IS THIS?!" His voice was on the verge of hysterics, his hands gripping the sides of his head.

Evelyn sighed. "You're causing a scene."

"I DON'T CARE," Leon wheezed. "WHAT DID I JUST PUT IN MY MOUTH?! WAS THAT EVEN FOOD?! OR WAS IT SOME KIND OF DIVINE REVELATION?!"

I snorted. "Told you."

Leon leaned forward, looking me dead in the eyes.

"…Bro." His voice was dead serious now. "How do you live like this?!"

I smirked. "Happily."

Leon groaned loudly, collapsing onto the table. "I've been robbed. Scammed. Betrayed."

Evelyn took a sip of her drink. "Tragic."

Leon shot up, pointing at me. "I'm moving into your dorm."

I laughed. "Not happening."

"Evan. Please. I will literally sleep on the floor if I have to."

"No."

Leon clenched his fists. "I'll fight for my right to eat like this."

"You'll lose."

Leon groaned dramatically, dropping his head into his arms. He let out a muffled scream into the table. I chuckled, finishing off my snack and leaning back in my chair.

Lunch wrapped up sooner than I expected.

Leon was still reeling from his life-changing experience with Lilith's golden snack, muttering something about how he had been living in poverty without realizing it. Evelyn remained completely unbothered, finishing her drink like she didn't hear Leon's mutter.

But as much as I enjoyed watching Leon suffer from the realization that he had been eating mediocre food his entire life, we had combat class next.

Which meant we were splitting up again.

Still, I had overheard something earlier—our training areas would be next to each other.

That meant even if I wasn't fighting alongside them, I'd still be near them.

I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a disaster waiting to happen.

I stretched, rolling my shoulders as I stood up. "Alright, I'm heading out."

Leon groaned dramatically, standing as well. "Bro, if I die in this combat lesson, tell my story."

I snorted. "You'll be fine. You almost kicked Ares' ass once."

Leon froze. "True. I'm awesome."

I grinned. "Good luck with that."

We exited the cafeteria together, stepping into the bustling halls. Students moved in groups, heading to their respective training areas. The faint scent of magic lingered in the air—different elements mixing, some sharper, some softer.

As we walked, I could hear snippets of conversations.

"House of Titans' sparring matches are brutal today."

"Did you hear? One of the House of Saints healers passed out from overuse."

"Valor's combat trials are happening soon. You think Ares is gonna dominate again?"

I ignored that last one, shaking off the irritation that came with hearing Ares' name.

Soon, we reached the point where the paths split—one leading toward House of Valor's training grounds, the other toward House of Arcana's combat hall.

Leon let out an exaggerated sigh. "Welp. This is where we die separately."

I smirked. "Try not to get crushed."

He pointed at me. "Try not to blow yourself up."

I chuckled, glancing toward my own path. "Alright, see you both later."

We gave each other a quick nod, then split up, heading to our respective training areas.

The House of Arcana's combat hall was different from the standard training grounds.

Most Houses had large, open fields or reinforced arenas where students could spar freely. Arcana? We had a structured, spell-regulated combat chamber, designed to test both magic and strategy. We still could peek at other training areas though.

The air was thick with residual mana, charged with energy from previous training sessions. The walls were lined with arcane barriers, shimmering faintly as they absorbed stray magical energy. The floors were smooth, inscribed with faint glowing runes, marking different zones for sparring, practice, and theoretical demonstrations.

There was an odd mixture of scents—burnt ozone from electrical spells, the crispness of ice magic, the lingering warmth of fire, and the strange, metallic tang of earth-based enchantments.

I inhaled deeply. The moment I stepped inside, I could feel the tension in the air.

Students were already gathering, some stretching, others exchanging quiet discussions about spells and strategies. Unlike House of Valor, where people probably just punched each other to warm up, Arcana's students were analyzing. Preparing.

I caught a few glances as I walked in—again, curiosity, not hostility.

Someone muttered, "Oh, he's the guy from earlier…"

Another student whispered, "Didn't he answer the trick question?"

I exhaled, ignoring it.

If this was gonna be a thing, then whatever. I wasn't about to start explaining myself to every random person who was confused about me.

The instructor entered shortly after—a tall woman with short silver hair, sharp violet eyes, and a long battle-mage coat lined with enchantments.

She moved with the kind of confidence that only came from experience, her boots clicking against the polished floor as she scanned the students.

"Welcome to Combat Application," she began, her voice clear and firm. "I am Instructor Elise Veyne. You can call me Elise. If you think Arcana's combat class is just about throwing spells mindlessly, leave now."

No one moved.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, satisfied. "Good. Because in this class, you will learn how to fight intelligently. Not just how to cast a spell, but when, where, and why. You will learn how to predict your opponent, how to counter their magic, and most importantly—how to survive."

She turned sharply, gesturing toward the combat arena.

"Today, we begin with a real application. No theory, no reading. You will fight."

A few students visibly tensed.

I smirked.

'Finally, something interesting.'

Elise clapped her hands, and magical constructs began forming on the training ground.

Illusory opponents, each one glowing faintly with different magical signatures. Some humanoid, others beasts, each radiating a different elemental energy.

"Your first task," Elise said, "is to engage, analyze, and adapt. These constructs will not fight predictably. If you attack without thinking, you'll fail."

She turned, her sharp gaze scanning the students.

"Pair up. Choose your partners wisely."

Immediately, students started moving, forming groups. Some exchanged quick nods, others debated who would be the best match.

I glanced around.

I didn't know anyone here well enough to pair up.

And judging by the way some students were eyeing me, they were probably debating whether I was worth partnering with or not.

Then, just as I was about to make a choice…

"You."

I turned.

A guy with short black hair, piercing blue eyes, and an air of quiet confidence stood in front of me.

I raised an eyebrow. "Me?"

He nodded. "You answered the professor's trap question earlier. You think before you act. I want to see how you fight."

I smirked. "And who am I fighting with?"

He extended a hand. "Adrian Callis. Fourth-ranked placement in entrance trials."

'Fourth-ranked, huh?'

I glanced at his stance, his confidence, the way he held himself.

Yeah.

This was gonna be fun.

I shook his hand. "Evan Drakos."

He smirked. "Let's see if you're as good as they say."

I grinned. "Let's."
