Chapter 83 - Taunting Victory

The lord's mansion had never been so quiet. The room was filled with many, but none dared say a word. The defeat was louder than words could ever describe. 

"I can't believe I lost to him," Chief Lucas lamented. He had gotten off, but then he had lost it all.

"You were to handle it all; you said you could do it—and now I've lost the hospital and money, and now that nuisance thinks he is above me." His hands folded, and his eyes darkened. The lawyers had nothing to say in their defense. No one had expected Kabir and his team to play dirty, and the mass murder by Claude... 

"Leave… I want to be left alone," Chief Lucas ordered, and they all scrambled to their feet.

The mansion was once again quiet. Chief Lucas leaned on his cane, his eyes gazing at the portraits on the wall. This was a routine, but today was different. For years, he had only taken a long stare, with a glass of champagne and a victorious smirk—but now… he dared not smile.
