No arsonist was caught that night.
However, Steve and the others resolved three major criminal incidents, handled over a dozen petty crimes—robberies, thefts, and street brawls—and captured two fugitives, both located with Jarvis's assistance.
Thanks to the virtual reality company's massive promotional reach, the internet buzzed with discussion about the Guardians and superpowers. High school students, driven by hormones and youthful passion, were especially fascinated—particularly because two of the three active heroes were explosive, attractive women.
Peter Parker was one of those students.
At sixteen, this slightly scrawny high schooler was routinely bullied by lowlifes at school, not because he was weak but because of his brilliance and introverted demeanor.
"Hey, Parker!"
Amid the chatter of morning dismissal, a football struck Parker square in the back.
It came from Flash Thompson—star of the school's football team.
Parker quietly stowed his phone, intending to walk away, but Flash snatched the phone straight from his hand.
"Yo, watching the Watchers video too, huh?" Flash yanked Parker's collar hard. "Tell me, who's your favorite? Scarlet Witch or Shockwave Woman? Think hard before you answer."
"Haha! Thompson's messing with Parker again!"
"Of course, it's 'Insignificant Parker.'"
The cluster of students behind Thompson jeered. This scene was practically routine.
"I like the hooded woman best," Parker muttered, twisting in an attempt to escape.
Thompson's expression shifted with surprise.
Apparently, he also had a thing for the mysterious, hooded female Guardian.
"Let him go."
A sharp male voice cut through the crowd.
It was Harry Osborn—clean-cut, wearing expensive brands, striding confidently toward them.
"If you don't want to get expelled, don't mess with Parker. He's a friend of Harry Osborn."
Harry had the clout to say this. After all, his family owned shares in the school.
"Pfft. Freakin' Parker."
"Maybe he's not just a follower—maybe he's your boyfriend."
"Hahaha!"
Though slightly intimidated by Harry's background, the teens were still kids—no one wanted to lose face.
"These idiots," Harry grumbled, clenching his fists.
"Let it go, Harry," Parker urged, stopping the friend he'd made barely a week ago.
Harry Osborn, son of the infamous Norman Osborn, had transferred from his elite boarding school just the previous week. He arrived with a security escort in a luxury vehicle, causing a stir on campus. Somehow, despite their differences, the first person he bonded with was the quiet Parker.
"Parker," Harry said, handing him his phone, "If you're into Guardians, I've got an opportunity."
There was a reason Harry had befriended Parker.
Days earlier, his father had summoned him home and revealed startling information: a family-afflicted genetic disorder he'd personally cured, a shift in family direction, and the need to mingle with those who had potential. Harry was told to enroll in this school—and to make capable friends.
Harry believed Peter was one of those people.
"What kind of opportunity?" Parker asked, curious.
"My company's collaborating with that virtual reality group," Harry explained, pulling up an article on his phone. "They're recruiting young interns for Guardian logistics support. Our company has some spots. You're more than qualified."
Harry didn't mention pulling strings. Years of elite schooling had taught him how to talk without bragging.
"For real? That's amazing." Parker's eyes lit up with excitement.
He idolized heroes—not for money or fame, but because he simply thought they were cool.
"But you've gotta visit my company first," Harry said, slinging an arm over Parker's shoulders. "Just to learn some basics…"
"No problem. Thanks, Harry!"
At this point, Peter Parker was still just an awkward genius—his parents missing, living with his aunt and uncle—completely unaware of the fate awaiting him.
Shen He didn't anticipate that his earlier actions would create ripples strong enough to stir a storm.
So, when he heard that Peter Parker was about to intern at the virtual reality company, he was caught off guard.
The so-called "Guardian Logistics Internship" had been offered by a corporate partner—an initiative not created by Shen He himself, but by staff who wanted to bridge the gap between ordinary people and superheroes.
"Sir, we've observed changes in the target individual over the past few days," Jarvis reported.
As he spoke, Jarvis projected surveillance footage of Parker leaping, climbing, and performing stunts inside an abandoned factory.
"What happened?"
"These changes occurred after he accompanied Harry Osborn to a visit at Oscorp," Jarvis noted.
The system displayed a brief montage: Norman Osborn escorting Harry back to school; Harry meeting Parker; Parker visiting Oscorp, where he had limited but unsupervised access.
It must have been when Parker got bitten.
The coincidence seemed harmless.
But Shen He knew—in some versions of the Marvel multiverse, Parker and Harry were destined to be friends.
Was his presence here causing alternate threads of destiny to re-align?
"Start tracking Parker's uncle," Shen He instructed.
If fate still followed its canonical path despite major disruptions, he could confirm whether "destiny's trajectory" was truly a force at work.
Spider-Man had been born—albeit early. But Parker still needed guidance.
Knock knock knock.
A knock on the office door interrupted him.
"Come in," Shen He said, shutting down Jarvis's feed.
It was Jeanne d'Arc, still dressed in her tight training outfit, having come directly from the dojo.
"Master, about—"
"Jeanne," Shen He interrupted, walking up to gently embrace her. "No one's around. Can't you call me something more…intimate?"
"Huh? But… Master is… the Master…" Jeanne blushed and averted her gaze from Shen He's smoldering eyes.
She had long since accepted—though bashfully—that lovers live together, but she still got flustered by Shen He's attention.
He didn't mind.
In fact, her innocence made it all the more fun.
"I mean, if we ever have a baby, you can't be calling me 'Master' in front of them, right?" Shen He teased, gently tickling her waist.
"B-Baby?! B-b-baby baby… if we do that kind of thing… I guess… b-but it's not possible, I'm a Servant, I… ahhh, focus, Jeanne, focus—!"
Joan clutched her burning face, trying to reason with herself. A Saint like her—constructed life from love? Impossible. The miracle of childbirth was too much to hope for…
But now that he mentioned it, her chest ached with longing.
A child… to complete this miracle of life…
"Don't give up so easily." Shen He hugged her tighter, staring deep into her eyes. "Weren't you once the girl of miracles? And this world—our world—is full of them. We've got time."
"…You're right." Jeanne's heart steadied. "Being with you is already a miracle."
If escaping the Throne of Heroes and returning to the world was possible, maybe, just maybe, so was having a child.
"That's the spirit." Shen He leaned close and whispered, "Maybe if we try a few more times, it'll happen."
Jeanne trembled and couldn't speak.
After a few minutes, she remembered why she came and pushed him away, flushed and flustered.
"M-Master! I came to report Skye's training… What have I been doing!?"
"Hahaha! Jeanne, you're too cute."
Shen He sat back, still grinning, as Jeanne pouted, puffing her cheeks.
"Ahem. Okay, okay. Back to business," Shen He coughed. If he teased her too much, he might end up sleeping on the couch.
Jeanne handed over her notepad. "This is my evaluation of the Guardian members."
"Let's see…"
The neat Chinese script surprised Shen He. Jeanne stood proudly, expecting praise.
"Amazing," he praised—and then proceeded to correct typos with a red pen.
Based on her field observation, the best-performing Guardian was Pirot. With maturity beyond his years, he understood the meaning of support, never grandstanding. Once he acquired Loki's scepter, his abilities should scale dramatically.
The weakest was Skye.
Talented but rebellious, she disobeyed orders, followed her own instincts—often successful, yes, but also reckless. Her sharp intuition came with a dislike for secrecy.
"What do you think of Skye?" Shen He asked.
"She needs a real home," Jeanne answered without hesitation.
"Exactly," Shen He sighed. "But taming a wildcat isn't easy. I'll let Coulson deal with it."
If Skye were his follower, he'd have invested more effort, but as an ally… she was not his responsibility.
He closed the notebook and handed it back.
"I plan to recruit two more Guardians," Shen He continued, projecting holographic portraits. "Crystal and Parker. And Chaldea—eventually, we need to go public. We won't patrol streets like Guardians do, but we'll serve as mentors and intervene in catastrophic scenarios."
That was his vision of Chaldea—a mythical but grounded force of guidance.
"A catastrophe…" Jeanne whispered.
Meaning: if the Guardians failed, they would step in.
"Alright, that's enough work for today." Shen He checked his watch and stood. "Come on, Jeanne. Let's cook something good tonight."
Ever since acquiring legendary kitchen artifacts, Shen He had come to treasure mealtime with his Servants. Perhaps this would become a Chaldean tradition—scattered heroes returning for dinner from across the world.
…
Meanwhile, Parker—newly gifted with power—was simply looking forward to tomorrow.
He didn't understand what he'd become. He only knew it felt amazing.
Tomorrow, he'd meet others like him.
On the shuttle to the virtual reality company, Parker barely slept from excitement.
Seated beside him, his tech-savvy best friend Ned Leeds was buzzing with energy.
"Parker, how do you not have dark circles?" Ned groaned. "I couldn't sleep! I heard if you do well, they'll let you intern full-time—even during college. Imagine being the guy who backs up real superheroes!"
The man behind the mask… Parker didn't reply.
Instead, he glanced at the girl sitting nearby.
And quietly wondered: If he wasn't just support… if he could become a real hero… would he have a shot?
