Chapter 188 - 188. Raised to be a spy

Tele Teveli was different from other young people from an early age. He always knew he was different. Most children did not wake up in the middle of the night grabbing their chest because they dreamed that someone had ripped their heart out of their chest. Young Teveli was tormented by terrible nightmares, until he realized something at the age of six.

That day was like most of his days, he was walking the streets of Lombvár half asleep when he reached a more deserted part of the forest. Although he was afraid that he would fall into a nightmare again, he sat down under a tree and closed his eyes. He just listened to the sounds of the world. The sound of bugs, the sound of birds, the buzzing of bees. He completely let himself go and began to think about how much easier it would be if he were one of the birds.

As he thought about this, the world opened up before him. His eyes were closed, but he could clearly see the leaves of the trees that were flying below him. The young hegin immediately opened his eyes and turned his head around, the leaves disappeared, but when he concentrated on them he saw them again. Then he saw himself under the leaves, staring ahead. Teveli then heard the sound of a hawk and when he turned towards it, he saw himself looking at himself.

Then the world took on its usual shape again and Teveli stared at the receding bird with his mouth open. It was then that the boy began to use this truly strange ability. Although he could not summon a ghost, he soon realized that he did not need a ghost, since he could learn anything about anyone, thanks to the fact that he could see with the eyes of any animal and hear with the ears, so he knew in advance if someone wanted to hurt him.

It was also around this time that his father started taking him with him when the man accompanied the Koál chieftain to the big chieftain meetings. Although Teveli never spoke at the children's council and only sat at a small table in the corner of the room, he was not bored. Thanks to the little bugs, the boy always spent his time eavesdropping on the adults' conversations. It is true that at that time he still thought that he would not be able to use this information for much, but he did remember everything.

However, he did not really show off his knowledge, not even in things that he could have. That may be why by the time he was eight years old he was already a regular visitor once a month to the Koáls' troublemaking ghost, Kamu. At first, the hungry ghost did not bother the boy at all, just tryed to scare him, and Teveli tried to see through some animal on such occasions so that he would not have to deal with him. But then one day everything changed.

"What are you looking at when you stare at nothing like that, little hegin?" Came the surprisingly serious question from Kamu.

"You don't need to know that." Teveli grumbled, but his eyes suddenly widened when he saw through the eyes of the butterfly he was watching that the Zovárd chieftain was negotiating with some chüvigh man.

"You may be able to fool the others, but not me. What do you see?" The troublemaking ghost of the Koáls leaned into Teveli's face.

"A negotiating Zovárd chieftain." Teveli shrugged, thinking that if the ghost thought he was stupid, he would leave him alone.

"Oh, a useful little ability." At the surprising statement, the Tele boy blinked a few times so that his vision returned to the room and his eyes were fixed on the ghost's chest. "Look at that, you've come back. It was almost impossible to notice." Kamu said, then laughed and put his ghost hand on the boy's shoulder. "I like you, little hegin! You have potential! How about I teach you how to be a perfect spy?" The ghost offered.

"Why would you do that?" The young man asked, already knowing that nothing in the world is free.

"Because I'm bored." Kamu shrugged. "And this sounds exciting. So, what do you say?" He took his hand off the child's shoulder and extended it towards him, as if he was expecting a handshake.

"Okay!" Teveli nodded and slapped the ghost's hand. After all, if he already had such an ability, why wouldn't he use it.

That's when little Teveli's training began. Every week he would sneak into Kamu's house and learn from the ghost the various stealth moves, how to recognize when someone was lying, how to disarm or even kill someone most easily, how to remain completely undetectable, and so on. In the meantime, of course, he also developed his own vision through animals. Thus, there were times when he could have full conversations with Kamu while he was watching a person on the other side of Madüjawr.

Shortly after the start of his training, the incident that the chán Mo Ching later recounted to Teveli during his solo exam occurred. Although the young hegin's reaction to the binding was not exactly what the chán man had shown it to be. Yes, Teveli was in despair, but only because he thought he had messed something up. And after the prisoner of Lombvár gave him Kele, Kamu explained to Teveli that all this was necessary because it would make it much easier for the boy to blend in among the Koáls.

Thanks to all this, little Teveli had already grown into an almost perfect spy by the age of twelve, who hid unnoticed among the Koáls. It was then that Kamu gave him one of his biggest tasks. He had to get close to the children of the chiefs. When the Tele boy received the task, he planned to put an animal on each child and watch them. However, luck was on his side and he was recuited by Zaukán Razvan.

At first, that certain Athamana was just a game. Teveli thought that he would be able to betray them at any time, but then everything changed again. The members of the team soon became his good friends. The boy finally felt like he belonged somewhere, even if he knew much more about each of his friends than any of them believed. However, as usual, everything turned upside down again when chüvigh Rahul appeared from beyond the Karrabata.

His peaceful little world was turned upside down, Teveli found his lost uncle, the Athamanas became students of Master Mo. They even reached the west, where they learned a completely new kind of cultivation. Then, to Teveli's greatest surprise, it turned out that the ghost to whom he had told about all his discoveries over the years, who had taught him to be a perfect spy, was not an ordinary ghost.

Kamu's great tale shook Teveli to the core all his knowledge about the ghost out of the window. Until he set foot in the center of the Immortal Mist with the Athamanas, he had no idea that such an organization could exist. However, he had to realize that it did not simply exist, but that little Teveli had managed to get involved in something whose magnitude he had not yet realized at the time.
