Cassidy
The room was quiet. The kind of quiet that let you hear the beat of your own heart. The kind that made the ticking of the clock sound like a war drum.
They were all staring at me—Damon, Celeste and Elara. Family. Or something like it. My mother stood to the side with a proud smile on her face.
Kieran stood beside me, his arm loosely around my waist. He hadn't let go since I'd told him. Told them.
"You're pregnant?" Damon was the first to speak. His voice held a strange blend of surprise and something softer. Awe, maybe.
I nodded. Slowly. "A month. The doctor confirmed it."
A beat passed, and then Damon crossed the room in two strides and scooped me into a hug so sudden and warm I nearly teared up.
"You're going to be someone's mom," he whispered into my hair, laughing as he set me back down. "Damn, Cassidy. That kid's going to be unstoppable."
