"What would you do," Logan asked quietly, "if someone told you that our marriage is a sham?"
Jean froze.
The book slipped slightly in her lap. "Why? Did someone say something?"
He didn't answer that. Just stared at her.
"I'd prove them wrong," she said eventually, her voice even. But inside, her mind raced.
Logan took a step closer. "How?"
Silence.
She looked away. Her fingers clutched the edge of the book too tightly.
"That's what I thought," Logan said with a dry chuckle. He crossed his arms. "If we want to survive this… whatever this is… we need to convince them we're real."
Jean's gaze snapped back to his. "So what are you saying?"
He didn't blink. "I'm saying… maybe we should give them what they want to see. No more awkward distance. No more cold glares. We act like a real couple. In love."
Jean's pulse picked up, fluttering in her throat.
Loving each other?
She already knew what that would involve. Touching. Kissing. Maybe more.
She wasn't ready.
