Oran looked at the words in the book, then resumed reading from where he had stopped.
"All right, listen up; I will continue reading it.
Chapter Two, Part Three
After Sword of the Sky and his companions had remained hidden in the cave, the light of the sky and the sun went out, replaced by the darkness of dusk and the luminous glow of the moon overhead. The breeze had returned to its flow, and the roars of the demonic monsters could no longer be heard in the world.
Sword of the Sky stepped outside to see what had happened, and he was astonished to see a dark sky filled with stars of every color. The moon hung in the center, casting a radiance that illuminated the darkness beyond the heavy clouds. It was at once a beautiful and ordinary sight—beautiful because it appeared after a catastrophe unprecedented in history, a catastrophe that had caused human massacres, for humans are the food of these demonic creatures; and ordinary because it was a scene seen every night before this demonic disaster struck.
Sword of the Sky stood amazed, wondering with a bewildered expression: What is happening, and why has everything vanished as though we were living in an illusion? Many confused thoughts swirled through his mind. But he quickly set them aside and returned to the cave.
One of his companions asked, "What's happening outside? Why can't I hear those annoying screams anymore?"
Sword of the Sky looked at him, confusion filling his face, and replied, "The sky is clear out there, and I don't see any creatures—it's as if this whole event has vanished from existence."
His companions jumped, startled by the force of these words. "Are you sure of what you're saying?"
Sword of the Sky answered, "Yes, I am, Rio. You can look for yourself."
Rio did not believe Sword of the Sky's words until he went outside and saw it with his own eyes.
Sword of the Sky said, "See? I told you. Anyway, isn't this strange?"
Rio stood deep in thought, confusion evident on his face. Rio has short, wavy black hair and dark eyes, with slightly tanned skin—after all, the Western Desert is known for its dark-skinned inhabitants.
Sword of the Sky is the exception, since his mother is from the Green Plains region, from which he inherited his striking features: silver hair and two shining silver eyes.
Sword of the Sky and his three companions were swallowed by questions.
Rio challenged, "So what are we going to do now?"
Sword of the Sky leapt forward, saying, "I will go back immediately. I am very worried about my brothers and my wife. I am leaving now."
The three of them were surprised; shock spread across their faces for a few moments.
Rio challenged, "What are you saying at a time like this? Have you gone mad? Did you hear what Luke said?"
Luke replied, "He's right. Did you knock your head somewhere? No sane person would utter words like that."
Luke is Rio's older brother; they have almost identical features—same hair color and eye color—differing only in height: Luke is just a bit taller than Rio.
Sword of the Sky looked firmly at all three and spoke boldly, "You will not understand anyway; you have nothing left to return to—you've already lost everything. But as for me, someone is still waiting for me, so I must go back."
These harsh words brought back memories of painful days and suffering for the three.
Sword of the Sky continued, his face serious: "What? Why are you all silent? Weren't you noisy just a moment ago? And you, Kater, you haven't said a single word since we entered the cave; I see you lost in your thoughts."
Kater looked at Sword of the Sky with a blank expression, challenging, "I will go with you, for I too have someone I hold dear."
Rio and Luke were stunned, while Kater and Sword of the Sky stared at each other in silence before Sword of the Sky spoke again: "Are you certain of your words? You must live up to them; we may never return, and perhaps we may never even arrive."
Kater replied firmly, "There is no room for retreat. Let us depart now."
Kater has short brown hair and dark brown eyes, his face slightly tanned, with a tall, muscular body that matches his frame.
Shock registered on the faces of both Rio and Luke.
Rio challenged, "What are you doing, Kater? Are you really going with him?"
Kater answered, "I am, Rio."
Rio and Luke exchanged glances, then signaled to each other that they would go as well.
Luke spoke quietly, a hint of embarrassment in his voice as he scratched the back of his head, "We will go with you as well."
Kater and Sword of the Sky fell silent for a few moments before Sword of the Sky spoke again, calmly and coolly, "I am not responsible for what may happen to us. Come on—let us depart."
Having unanimously agreed to return to the Western Desert, Sword of the Sky took the lead, while his friends followed step by step out of the cave.
Sword of the Sky stepped cautiously into the open, and, as expected, the sky was clear, adorned with its radiant stars that lit the darkness of the night.
After Sword of the Sky surveyed the situation outside, he signaled to his companions to reassure them that all was safe. And so they set off into the night, carrying hope in their hearts that their loved ones were all right.
Sword of the Sky pressed on at the front, hurrying to arrive as soon as possible. His features were tense with worry, and he was drenched in sweat from his forehead to the soles of his feet.
Destruction was widespread in every direction: many trees had lost their shape, destroyed by these demonic creatures, and the animals had not been spared either. Blood and dismembered bodies lay at every step they took.
Anxiety and tension grew; the hope of seeing their loved ones felt like dust blown away by the wind, vanishing across the world. Sword of the Sky increased his pace, his expression darkening—he had not expected such an extent of devastation. All this destruction in a region that was not even the origin of this catastrophe, let alone the desert from which the disaster had begun.
Fortunately, they were only near the borders; this journey would take half a day, so they would arrive before dawn.
But as they continued advancing, they encountered something that made their legs unable to move. Their faces drained of color, their gazes turning pale.
They saw along the path the bodies of many people severed into pieces, the smell of blood forming a red mist that made their bodies shudder with fear. Even the limbs were not whole—there were heads, legs, an
d arms, both upper and lower parts, for those demonic monsters ate as they pleased.
