Chapter 25 - The Peculiarity

Fortunately this time, he had more time to prepare, and thus sprayed himself with scent dispeller and ran away.

This would help him so that wild beasts won't be coming after him smelling blood.

After he ran for 10 minutes, he found a place good to build a camp in.

It was a tree that was hollow on its upper side. After he climbed the branches, he entered through the cave like entrance.

The trees were very huge, and thus the hollow inside was also spacious.

"Oh?" Gang Xin stumbled upon pieces of bones. There were some from animals, and also one that seemed to be the skull of a person.

This hole was indeed not without an owner. Judging from the claw mark that was at the entrance, the traces of moss that was everywhere, and the weird poo that was spotted green, he had an inkling of what kind of animal it was.

The most dangerous kind it could be - was the Cinderspine Drake.

The small dragon lived in hollow trees or logs, and the place it resided in was usually covered in moss because of the Moss Moth.

They had a strange symbiotic relationship where there was a chance of evolution for the moth once it lived long enough with the dragon.

However, he didn't recall there being dragons living in the Rock Forest, so this was unlikely. Besides, the bone wouldn't exist or would be in a state after being melted.

The second would be the Treemaw, the feline with fur that grew moss like hair. Its fur was valuable because it was able to store qi inside itself.

However, upon closer look, the moss here wasn't fur. It was really moss. Besides, the Treemaw couldn't have done that claw mark. Its mark would be smaller.

So, it was the last but most likely option - the Mossbear. The bear that had real moss growing on its fur. The moss helped act as a deterrent from bacteria and parasites once the bear was wounded.

This beast wouldn't pose much of a problem.

So Gang Xin didn't worry about it much and put some glowing stone around the cave and a smell inhibiting barrier made up of three candles at the entrance.

It was time to check out the corpses he got.

First one, the Stone Fang.

The huge body laid on the ground once Gang Xin got it out of the inventory.

Instantly, the blood came gushing out once again and soon, the ground had been covered in blood like a small pond. Because it hadn't been long, the blood was still bright red.

First, Gang Xin decided to check out the wound it had. The giant clawed wound that continued from its front leg to its tail.

The wound was very deep and also each stripe of wound was thick. The width was almost equal to the width of Gang Xin's palm. As for the depth, it was around a man's forearm.

There were two stripes, meaning either the creature that did this only had two claws on its paw, or only two managed to land. Seeing from the depth and how the two claw marks were consistent, Gang Xin figured it was the first one - that the creature had two claws on its paw.

Secondly, he tried to inspect the qi damage on its wound. Judging from it, there was barely any trace of qi.

Perhaps the demonic beast didn't use any elemental attacks and just used its physical body. However, it was unlikely considering that even the physical body of powerful demonic beasts contained qi.

Especially for vital areas for attack like the claws, there would definitely be some form of qi within it.

Well, Gang Xin didn't have any new evidence so he couldn't make any more guesses.

Then, he inspected the other body parts. From them, he could see that the Stone Fang was pretty close to evolution. Well, since Stone Fangs were creatures close to becoming a demonic beast anyways, he didn't find it unusual considering the older ones usually progressed closer towards it.

This Stone Fang must've been old.

Gang Xin continued inspecting the feline.

Wait!

It wouldn't have been unusual if this Stone Fang was close to evolution because it was old. But then, it was suspicious if it wasn't that old.

From what he could see, this Stone Fang couldn't have been that old because its reproduction organ used to be lively and fresh without any use. Turns out, it haven't had a mate before.

This was nigh impossible for any old Stone Fang because this beast was not that uncommon in the Rock Forest.

Gang Xin guessed - it might have found a precious place or spiritual plant, but had to run away because of strong competition.

From the way it came, there might be something great waiting for him.

For Gang Xin who didn't lack experience, but only the cultivation resources, any good treasure could greatly increase his progress.

He couldn't help but lick his lips and look at the way that Stone Fang came from. It should've came from around South West, where the center of this huge pit was.

But this was not a journey he should take on now. For now, he should adapt to life in this jungle.

After checking the Stone Fang some more, he cut off its tail, and dug four of its bigger fangs out.

Then, he stored everything back. He wasn't hungry yet and didn't want to let the meat go bad either. Either as bait or as food, this was good food that was hard to come by within the city for the previous Gang Xin.

As for the Sawhorn Ram, he took out its body and started inspecting it too. He really didn't know how this ram had managed to evolve to a demonic beast.

Usually, this species wouldn't come close even if they aged till they died. However, this one just managed to do so.

Firstly, the most strange thing about it was that it didn't live with a group. It was too alone to be as violent as it was.

Secondly, its coat of fur wasn't as green as the other rams were. Instead, it had a tinge of dark blue to it.

Its horn was also longer and had that dark blue shine. As for other things, it wasn't that much strange from a normal Sawhorn Ram.

Unfortunately, he couldn't find any demon beast cores within it.

Gang Xin wasn't disappointed though. It was no new information to him that only higher and more powerful demonic beasts possessed a core.

For the newer or lower tiered demonic beasts, their spiritual qi would be concentrated around the vital parts.

For example, for this Sawhorn Ram, the qi was mostly concentrated around its great horn.

This ram possessed one horn only, instead of the typical two that rams had. However, the horn was twisted unlike a unicorn's, and was also very sharp at the sides.

The base of the horn was much thicker, meaning it was also much more stable, but also much heavier than the normal horn.

Other than that, Gang Xin couldn't find anything that could solve the puzzle of it evolving.

So, this ram must've luckily consumed a spiritual plant.

That was the conclusion Gang Xin came up with.
