Felix and the little girl made their way to the classroom and along the way they didn't run across any of the infected. Felix reached his classroom door and knocked softly, he would knock twice then waited a few seconds then repeated his actions. The students were in the classroom sleeping and the knocking sound formulated in their dreams like a comforting lullaby. Ben woke up finding the tune unnatural, he slowly walked over to the door and listen closely. The knocking had a pattern too unnatural to be an Infected he thought.
" Hello?" he whispered through the cracks.
Felix heard his words and whispered back.
" Is there a problem?". Ben swung around almost screaming but managed not to. The person stepped away.
" Oh I'm sorry" Alexander said holding his hands up.
"No it's alright" Ben said as he exhaled heavily. " I think someone's at the door" Ben explained and he nodded.
"Felix is it you?" Alexander asked, surprising Ben by the question. The door was then knocked on twice. Three students were then woken up wondering what was happening. Alexander explained that Felix was behind the door. Ben wanted to open the door, but the others students were in disagreement and Alexander's option weren't sure of. How could Felix have survived so long out at night in the darkness, they're were so many questions and slowly all the students were being woken one after the other. As they were all given the information they too were against letting him in. Ben said it wasn't fair that he went out to the broadcasting room to help everyone so why were they abandoning him, the students fell silent but it was clear they were still in disagreement.
"Lets first check if he's bitten before sending him away" Ben stated, but still no one wanted to open the door. Ben would not let this continue, he held on one of the chairs that was stocked against the door and threatened if they didn't let Felix in he would pull everything apart. The students were stunned, Ben placed his hand on one of the chair's legs and all the students turned to Alexander.
" Are they asking for my confirmation?" Alexander wondered and the thought felt pleasing. He stepped forward and suggested they should go with Ben's idea and it was only because they were all scared that Felix had to go out and he too had to take responsibility. Felix could hear the quiet commotion and wondered what was happening, but he had the slight idea that they didn't want to let him in. Felix could hear the tables and chairs being moved from the door and then it slowly slid open. Felix entered still holding the little girls' hand, when he entered they turned on there phone lights to check him and when the light met Felix's features they all drew a breath of shock almost stumbling over, he was covered in blood looking ragged and the sight of him frightened them. Alexander was taken aback by Felix's features but he didn't show it, Davia was shock beyond words as she looks over her brother the sight frightened her.
"Why didn't you just die" she thought with anger and fear.
"Were you bitten?" Ben asked slowly breaking pass the fear.
"No" Felix answered plainly with weariness.
"Arriey?" Alexander spoke stepping closer as he looked at the little girl holding Felix's hand. They closed the door behind them wondering what they should do next.
"He isn't bitten. I was following him and I didn't see him get bite" Arriey said in a trembling voice. Even though she was still holding Felix's hand and trying to get the others to believe him she was very still frightened by him, but because he helped her she wanted to help him.
"Such a kind little girl" Alexander said with a kind tone as he stretched his hand outwards to Arriey. Arriey looked at his hand and then his eyes and then she held her breath not moving forward. Seeing her hesitance Alexander moved his hand away holding them up defensively.
"Oh I'm sorry" he apologized kindly. Ben stood silently watching the situation and the others did so too.
"It's ok Arriey we just need to check him for bites, you can come here" Ben said. Without hesitating Arriey walked over to him and held his waist. Ben was a bit surprised but he then simply patted her head and told her she could sit. Arriey walked over to the students and one of them showed her a seat beside her, Arriey sat down quietly and then the female student hugged her gently. Ben took up the wipes and walked over to Felix, there was no way the little wipes they had would get him clean and so he told Felix to wipe his face. Due to the others being scared Ben suggested Felix should stay by the door and they should use the remaining chairs and desk to create a barrier around him that way if he changed and moved they all could be alerted. They didn't want to agree but it was the only solution placed up front. That night all the students went to sleep but out of fear it felt as if they couldn't sleep fully, every few hours they woke up checking their surroundings of Felix. Felix went to sleep instantly as his body touched ground he was too tired and he needed to gain his energy back. While the others were worry of Felix changing Alexander, James and Alex were resting calmly asleep as if the situation didn't bother them. The next morning the students were awake and they wondered what they should do next, they couldn't bare the thought of staying in the classroom any longer, some wanted to find their families and wanted to do others things other than sitting in the classroom.
"What if we try escaping?" A student asked.
"And how we do that genius?" Noel asked with an unimpressed tone as she bit onto the bread she was holding. No one said anything.
" I'm sure my dad will come" Audrey said in a small voice as she clenched the water bottle in her hand.
" Yeah if he isn't dead" Noel added in a low voice as she looks to the side.
" We'd have to go outside again. I'm sure the school buses are still in the parking lot, there aren't any events on the school page so I'm sure they're there. If someone could go to the teachers office and grab the keys we all could escape" Alex spoke surprising everyone. Even though the idea was simple, no one even thought about it and he was smart enough to check the school page for confirmation. They all looked at him.
"So he's not as dumb as he looks, makes sense given who his father is" Alexander said inwardly with a smirk.
"What?" Alex said feeling everyone's eyes on him as he looked up from his phone.
" Well you're not the smartest one in our class so…" Krisa a girl said looking to the floor.
"Not to mention you're class ranking is 21st so it's a surprise" Cornell added bluntly.
"Then again maybe not" Alexander thought. " Well it's a good idea, but the question remains who'll go?" Alexander said. The students went silent no one wanted to go outside but they all wanted to leave, their fears were preventing them from going forward.
"So far all you've been doing is talk. Why don't you go Alexander? If I remember correctly you were a pretty good runner back in middle school" Noel said with arms crossed. Alexander's gaze sharpened for a quick second that went unnoticed to the other except for three students who saw the slight shift in his demeanor.
"Well I can't, a sprained ankle remember? And a lot changed since then I developed asthma". Alexander responded calmly as he chuckled at his own default while looking a bit shy as if he was embarrass and pulled his inhaler from his pocket.
"Quite the damsel aren't you" Both Noel and Bryan commented in sync.
"Sorry, I'll do better next time" Alexander said with a nervous chuckle.
"Well I'm not going" Alex said bringing back the main conversation. The students were quiet again.
"I'll go" A voice spoke. Everyone's eyes looked up and there they saw James stepping from the wall. Alex was stunned by his friends words grabbed his collar pulling him back and asked what was he doing in which James responded he needed to get home. Alex grit his teeth and reluctantly released his friend, he knew there was no trying to talk him out of it. Seeing James step forward another student did.
"I'll go too" Felix said stepping forward.
"Strong guys huh" Noel chuckled and then said she would join in too, since she didn't trust them and she was tired of the classroom. Multiple whispers could be heard saying that Felix already went out so why was he pushing himself. Davia couldn't bare the thought of others acknowledging Felix and so without thought she voiced a bit loudly that she would go too.
