Zane's POV ~
I was so eager to eat...so desperate to get something in my mouth...that I didn't expect the sharp, jarring pain that followed. My teeth collided with something hard, cold, and metallic, a violent clash that nearly yanked all of them out of my gums.
"What the actual fuck?" I muttered under my breath, my face twisting in pain.
Instinctively, I raised my hand to my mouth and pulled out the offending object, my fingers trembling slightly from the sting in my jaw. Under the soft glow of the moonlight and the nearby bulb overhead, it glinted in my palm like something out of a dream.
A ring.
A diamond ring.
It sparkled so vividly it almost didn't look real. But it was. It was very real.
"Yo…" I breathed, stunned.
Before I could even form a proper sentence or demand an explanation, I glanced up and froze.
Alfie was already standing beside me, his movements silent and swift. Then, in one smooth motion, he dropped to one knee.
He was smiling.
