Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: surviving

To the north of the Firorn Kingdom, on the border of the great city of Vankka, adventurers from various guilds gathered to carry out their monster extermination mission, as they usually did twice a year. At the southern entrance was the Freewalker guild, accompanied by several smaller affiliated guilds.

The adventurers were fighting fiercely against giant rat monsters. These rats used to attack towns and cities randomly twice a year, being stopped only by the adventurers.

Cristel swung her sword with great speed, killing rats left and right with a single slash. Dodging another rat, she slashed powerfully, killing the rat instantly and creating a great air pressure that sent the surrounding rats flying. Then she disappeared in a flash and appeared in front of a group of rats, killing them at high speed.

"Miss Cristel!" shouted several adventurers, pointing toward the trees in a forest not far from them.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The trees in the forest began to fall, and a gigantic rat with a semi-humanoid body appeared above the forest. Its size was so immense that the rat queen took a single step to emerge from the forest and stand before the adventurers. Letting out a powerful scream, the rat queen caused a great gale that knocked down several adventurers while others were sent flying.

Cristel stood firm in front of the enormous rat, watching as it raised its head, began to emit a kind of green smoke from its mouth, then blew it toward the adventurers. The adventurers quickly covered their mouths and noses, trying to escape the smoke.

"Everyone back!" shouted the adventurers.

"Don't be afraid, this is just smoke!" Cristel shouted, grabbing one of the corners of her cape and waving it, causing a huge gust of air that instantly blew away all the smoke.

"Damn, Miss Cristel is very strong!" said one of the adventurers, grabbing onto the grass to keep from being blown away.

"The difference between classes is simply absurd! She is Class B and we're Class C, but there's still too much of a difference in power" said a mage, standing up.

"Don't worry, comrades, this will be over in a second..." Cristel stated with a big smile, advancing toward the rat queen.

The rat raised one of its arms, wanting to hit Cristel, but in front of everyone, Cristel disappeared in an instant and then appeared in the air, right above the rat's arm. The arm fell with a loud crash, and a large jet of blood flowed from the rat's severed arm. Cristel twirled in the air as she fell, then raised her sword above her head, causing it to glow a deep red.

"Burn!" Cristel uttered.

Swinging her sword forward, a large burst of flame erupted from Cristel's sword, splitting the rat queen in half and creating a large crater across the forest behind the rat. Cristel landed on her feet in front of the rat's body, seeing that the edge of her sword had completely disappeared.

"I still don't have a good grip on it..." Cristel said to herself, tossing the sword handle aside.

Cristel turned to look at the battlefield. With the rat queen dead, all the rats would go crazy and fearful. As expected, the adventurers took advantage of this by quickly killing the remaining rats.

"Miss Cristel, this was the last horde of the last rat queen. The general said we should prepare to return to our guilds" said a mage arriving at Cristel's side.

"Yes… I understand. We're done with our work. Let's let the other guilds handle the other monsters. We don't want to get in their way," Cristel nodded, thanking the mage for informing her. 'By now, Finn and Darwin should have returned to the guild' Cristel thought.

"AHHHHH!" Finn shouted as he was tackled by several carps and an ogre.

"Hold on a little longer, I've almost got him!!" Darwin shouted into the ogre's back, as he pierced him repeatedly with his sword.

An hour after discovering the secret room, Finn and Darwin decided to leave the tent to try to find an exit route, but they ended up being found by the monsters and earthly beasts.

The ogre continued his attack until Darwin finally found the heart and speared it. The three of them fell heavily to the ground, rolling a few times from the inertia.

"Fuck, I thought I was going to die!" Finn said, lying on the ground.

"Gyahk, die!!" a hobgoblin yelled out of nowhere, only to be sent flying by Finn's telekinesis.

Finn stood up slowly, watching Darwin try to pull his sword out of the ogre's back.

"Well…" Darwin spoke, managing to pull out his sword. "At least there aren't many left. Most of them killed each other fighting each other."

"That doesn't mean that, with the exception of the hobgoblins, the remaining monsters are significantly stronger than us" Finn said, stretching and cracking his back.

"Well, you have a point there" Darwin agreed. "But hey, I think there are only five left. I think we can handle them without any problems…"

"Not Bane's, not Bane's!" Finn yelled, watching as an earthly beast lifted him over its head and then slammed him hard into the ground. "AGH!!!... at least it wasn't Bane's."

The earthly beast reached out to reach Finn again, but Finn used his slime to pull himself up onto a pole and away from the beast. He then used his telekinesis to pull the deer skull out, revealing a small black flame with green eyes. Quickly standing up, Finn used his slime to bind the beast and propel himself toward him at high speed.

Finn flipped in the air, kicking the black flame with his feet and pulling out what appeared to be a small, dark blue sphere. Finn landed on the beast's other side, grabbing the blue sphere and splitting it with a simple squeeze.

"Are you okay?" Darwin asked, reaching Finn. He looked just as hurt and dirty as Finn. "I saw that thing slam you into the ground."

"Yeah… I'm getting used to falling hard on the ground. Plus, I think I'm learning its pattern" Finn stated, stretching. 'I hope this doesn't take its toll when I got old…' Finn thought.

"Okay, we still have three earthbeasts left, seven ogres, and about fifteen hobgoblins" Darwin stated, looking at the last area where the monsters were fighting.

"Good…" Finn said, bowing as he watched the monsters fight. "I think I can quickly get rid of the earthbeasts, but I'm going to be stuck between the seven ogres…" Finn said, swinging the slime in his hand.

"No problem. I think I have a way to stop them for a moment so you can escape" Darwin said, summoning a ball of light.

"Good, I hope this works" Finn said. Getting ready to run

"While you kill the beasts, I'll kill as many hobgoblins as I can" Darwin said, and Finn nodded.

Finn launched himself at top speed with Darwin. Using the slime in his hand, he wrapped it around a pole, using it to propel himself into the air just above the three earthly beasts. Extending his free hand, he used telekinesis to pull the deer skulls from the bodies of the three earthly beasts. With the other, he used his slime, splitting it into three whips that pierced the black fire, obtaining the blue spheres. He then spun in the air and used his whip to whip the three spheres against the ground, breaking them instantly.

Finn landed right in front of the ogres who until a moment ago had been fighting the earthly beasts. Seeing Finn in front of them, the ogres roared angrily, preparing to strike Finn.

"Close your eyes!" Darwin shouted, leaping over the ogres and summoning a powerful light right in front of their faces.

The ogres roared even more angrily as they were blinded, but Finn and Darwin seized the moment to get far enough away from the ogres. The two hid behind one of the few tents still standing.

"Ugh…" Finn complained, shaking his hands.

"Excessive use of magic?" Darwin asked, and Finn nodded slightly. "No wonder, you've been using your telekinesis nonstop since we found the slime. I was wondering why this didn't happen to you before."

"Shit, I only have one healing potion left. I don't want to use it until after I'm done here," Finn said, worried that he might get hurt and not have anything to heal himself with.

"We'll have to do it like before. The ogres are simply too strong to face them with a sword. We have to find bows, spears, or any weapon we can throw from a distance," Darwin said. This was how they had defeated every ogre they had faced before.

"I think I saw a weapons depot next to the female monsters' cell," Finn said.

The two quickly ran toward the cells, as this time there was no one left alive besides the monsters on the other side of the city. However, when they arrived, they found the worst scene they could imagine.

"The horse-woman is gone…" Darwin said, astonished.

The chains holding the horse-woman had been broken with sheer force, and the bars of the cell had been ripped from the outside in. The footprints on the cell indicate that she had freed herself and then headed toward the center of the city.

"We didn't run into her during her escape, lucky for us," Finn said, wiping his sweat.

"Yeah... let's grab everything quickly, in case she comes back for some reason" Darwin said quickly, grabbing spears and arrows.

"Yeah" Finn replied, grabbing bows and swords.

Minutes later, Finn and Darwin were running through the village, being chased by ogres. They had strategically placed their weapons around the city so they would have something to attack the orcs from afar, no matter where they were.

After shooting several arrows, spears, and swords, the two had managed to kill 5 of the 7 ogres and decided to split up to grab the last weapons they had and kill the remaining ogres.

Finn ran to a barrel containing several spears, thinking it would all be over soon, but suddenly a hobgoblin jumped on him, knocking him away from the barrel.

Finn quickly grabbed the hobgoblin's head, snapping its neck and throwing it to the side, but by the time he tried to stop, it was too late; the ogre was right above him, ready to strike him.

Finn only managed to cross his arms before receiving the powerful impact of the ogre's blow. The blow was so strong that Finn could barely hold his arms up. Seconds later, another blow came, causing Finn's body to sink slightly into the ground. Finn tried to back away using his feet to push off, but there was little he could do.

'Shit, this thing is going to beat me to death!' Finn thought.

The blows kept coming, and all Finn could do was cover himself and try to use his telekinesis magic to lessen the power of the ogre's blows. After a few seconds, Finn's arms were completely swollen and purple. The ogre charged up his final attack, knowing Finn couldn't take it, and putting both hands together, he attacked again.

"Shit!!" Finn yelled, clenching his arms and focusing his telekinesis as much as he could, waiting for the blow.

Boom!

The powerful blow echoed through the area; beneath Finn, there was a small crater caused by the ogre's great strength, but Finn was still unharmed. Before the ogre's incredulous eyes, Finn was still standing with his arms crossed, but also staring at him in disbelief. The ogre, enraged, attacked again with all his might, only for the same thing to happen.

'I can still feel the weight of his blows, but not like before. Could it be...' Finn thought for a moment before receiving another attack from the ogre. Without a second thought, he kicked him with all his might in the abdomen.

At Finn's attack, the ogre flew away in disbelief, and Finn quickly got to his feet. Before the ogre could get back to his feet, Finn fell on him, piercing his eye with his sword.

'Sigh,' Finn sighed, pulling his sword from the ogre's corpse. Taking his pouch, he took out a healing potion and drank it thoroughly, healing his wounds. "That was very close…" Finn said to himself, opening his status window.
