The forest fell silent suddenly, completely.
As if everything sensed what was about to unfold… and recoiled.
Alpha's steps came to a halt. He took a deep breath and muttered under his breath:
"My body is breaking down… There's no escaping the transformation now."
He lifted his head toward the sky and closed his eyes.
In an instant, pulses of dark energy burst from his body no screams, no blinding light only a strange heat and the sound of the earth cracking beneath his feet.
His skin began to change slowly… its color fading to ash, then gradually darkening.
His back arched. His bones stretched. His chest expanded unnaturally.
His legs morphed into massive limbs, each toe tipped with a black claw that dug deep into the soil.
His arms pulled in and twisted until they formed a second pair of legs. Then wings erupted from his back broad, shadowy wings, leathery and torn-looking, but hard as steel.
In less than a minute, the figure standing before the girl was no longer human.
