Chapter 60 - The Calm Before the Storm

The next morning, the palace was heavy with tension. Guards lined the corridors and the air buzzed with hushed whispers. Lucien, dressed in black, his crimson eyes steady but cold, made his way to the royal court, flanked by loyal guards. Isadora and Cedric followed closely behind, their expressions grim.

Inside the grand hall, King Aldric sat upon his throne, his face drawn and weary. Beside him, Queen Evelyne watched with a stiff, unreadable expression.

Lucien stepped forward and bowed, his voice calm but laced with fury.

"Your Majesty, I come before you today not as your subject, but as a man betrayed within his own walls. Prince Alaric and Gaius of the Vale plotted treason against this kingdom and sought my death."

The room erupted in murmurs. The king's face paled.

"What proof do you bring, Lord Lucien?" the king asked, his voice strained.

Cedric stepped forward, dropping sealed letters and a bloodstained dagger upon the marble floor.
