Sophie Smith adjusted her clothes and forced a smile at the corner of her mouth. Her gaze fell on Asher Land, who was not looking at her, and she didn't know what he was avoiding.
Just as she was about to leave, Asher Land grabbed her wrist.
"Don't go yet."
Sophie freed her hand from his grasp, maintaining her smile.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Go ahead."
"When can you let me go? Let me leave you completely?"
Asher Land looked at her in disbelief. He couldn't remember how many times she had asked him this question. Each time, her expression was either angry or furious, but this time he couldn't quite read her expression.
Not getting his response, Sophie closed her eyes in despair and then dashed out.
She's not naive; of course she understood the meaning behind Luke Land's words.
He made her face a reality, that Asher Land's partner must possess a status strong enough to match him. Someone like her, an unremarkable actress, would only be enough for him to toy with.
