Chapter 40: Cthulhu, Come Forth III
........
'Am I having fun?' Akashi had to wonder, 'When did I start to enjoy fighting? Ah, I don't know how I got here, but whoever or whatever did, I thank you for giving me a second chance. I will make full use of it.'
Even as such thoughts crossed his mind, his actions didn't stop nor did he get distracted.
It was as if Akashi had eyes on his back, allowing him to see one of the enemies appearing behind him.
That by itself wasn't too strange as Akashi could faintly sense their Reiatsu, and most importantly, their dark intentions.
However, it seemed as if he could truly see behind him as he leaped forward and spun midair, Kurayami recasting itself into a shield, meeting the enemy's thrust with pinpoint accuracy.
The momentum of the thrust sent Akashi flying with little to no self-control, and the noble followed, seeking to make use of the opportunity.
"Watch out!!!"
Just when the noble was about to grin in triumph, he realized that while in the air, Akashi's stance changed to that of an archer, seemingly pulling the strings of a nonexistent bow.
The bow appeared, or rather, Kurayami appeared in the form of a bow. An Arrow compromised of pure darkness was released.
Befitting an experienced soul, the noble was barely able to avoid what would've likely been a fatal injury, managing to curl his head aside just enough for the arrow to scrape by his neck and nail itself in his shoulder.
"Damn you!!"
Shunpo.
Akashi flashed further away, and the noble didn't follow. By now, the six nobles have assembled again.
Even the one he hit with Kido was back, although in a sorry state.
He eyed their state one by one, and some of them's ugly expressions, specifically, the ones he injured.
Gone was disdain, apprehension was here for they realized something... They can not for the life of them catch him off guard.
That was not only because he seemed as if he had eyes on his back, but also because of his absurd reaction time.
They were unaware, but the reason for the latter is simply because Akashi has a second brain in the form of the First Eldritch.
The former was because in the shadows nearby stood a black entity, utterly black as if made of ink, adorning a black hat, all that can from seen about it in the darkness is two narrow white dots, its eerie eyes.
That's the Hat Man, the third horror created by Akashi, and his second eyes.
It or he has no fighting power whatsoever, and even a single slash from any who can affect souls can kill it, if their slash can reach it.
Indeed, the Hat Man despite being very weak has the trait of simply being able to fade away and appear in any different shadow he wants.
And as any of Akashi's horrors can transmit information, he can function as his eyes, always having his back.
"Okay, we've seen enough. Knock him unconscious," The commander of the enemy ordered, eyeing his people's state with a frown.
Akashi's expression turned serious, 'Should I have done it back then? No, I would've gotten only one person, and only three of them have been infected... I can't settle for anything less than two.'
He planned out things in his mind, his hand clutching Kurayami tighter. Whatever plan he had in mind, he realized that it would now be a lot more difficult, so he had to proceed with caution.
Therefore, he acted quickly, "Bakudō #21. Sekienton!!" The staff of darkness emerged in his hands before a cloud of darkness burst forth, spreading insistently.
'Two or three Kido spells is all I still have in me, I think,' Akashi frowned. The Kido spells were sucking him dry. Invoking multiple more would certainly drive him to exhaustion.
"Dance and howl, Arashi-no-Kiba!!"
The sound caused Akashi's expression to change, the sound of someone unleashing Shikai, and it seemed to be a wind-type Shikai.
Akashi felt the wind suddenly move, and the dark cloud he created moved with it.
Even though he introduced darkness into the spell, in the end, it was still a cluster of fog that could be affected by the environment.
Still, all Akashi needed was time to prepare as Kurayami twisted into a bow again. He pulled the string and released, again and again.
Akashi's eyes were closed, his head tilted sideways as he flashed again and again, moving along the wind til he could no longer.
He felt the wind around him twist and turn as if forming a storm, so away from the wind he went... Out of the dark clouds.
He knew full well what lay in wait out there, and the dark clouds were quickly dissipating. He was left with no choice.
The arrows have hit a couple of them, thus the anger on their face. The first two nobles' attacks felt heavier on his shield.
He tried to flash backward, but the fifth noble was already behind him, blade sweeping at his calf.
Akashi bent backward unnaturally, letting the blade pass above his face. He tried to retaliate; but the fourth noble appeared in front of him, stabbing straight for his gut.
He couldn't dodge both.
Slash!
The blade sank into Akashi's side. It wasn't fatal, but the pain exploded like white heat through his nerves.
He coughed blood, eyes wide, as he shoved himself away with Shunpo, crashing into the side of a warehouse.
Dust and concrete settled around him. Blood soaked his robes.
He groaned, feeling more pain than ever before, and he was used to pain... Shikai, he realized.
He didn't know when, but the fourth noble had used Shikai, he was certain.
Nothing else could explain the excruciating pain that sought to drive him unconscious.
Indeed, had he not been abused by the members of the eleventh team constantly, his body learning to cope with pain, he would've been knocked unconscious.
Kurayami in hand, now back in blade form, he whispered gently, "I just wanted to be left alone is what I would've said a while ago, but I'm having... so so much fun."
