Victor's smile widened. "And that's when you saw him with Mr. Paul, the janitor."
She blinked at him in surprise. "You knew?"
Victor nodded with a smirk and she continued.
"I was on my way to the locker room. I saw Sam helping Mr. Paul carry boxes into the library."
I stood there, just watching them for a moment. The school had received a new shipment of books, and I guess no one else was around to help. But Sam was there. He was carrying those heavy boxes like it was nothing, following behind Mr. Paul without a single complaint."
Her voice softened. "And then… he smiled. Not that cocky smirk he always wore around others. No. This one was real. Warm. Like for once, he felt at peace. I don't know why, but seeing that made my chest tighten."
Victor watched her carefully, the playful glint in his eyes giving way to curiosity.
