Chapter 22 - Ch 22 - To Survive (2)

Ever Since the mysterious voice helped Kai escape the dire situation of life and death caused by the spell of a Shaman, it had gone silent.

It wasn't asleep—just watching. Almost as if looking at the outside world through Kai's eyes.

Over time, let it be the weird, partially transparent screen that hovered in the air with time readings on it, or the time when he got almost killed by a muscular guy—Damon.

The mysterious voice saw it all as a soft hum resonated within Kai's mind.

Even when Kai's arm got brutally mutilated by Damon's sword, the voice—not caring—did not appear.

Slowly, the hum began to fade away into silence—as though the voice itself had started to fall asleep.

Unlike before, it didn't seem to be caring for Kai at all, even when he was on the verge of death.

As it faded, a thought rang down inside his mind like thunder.

'Is this...going to be my end?'

The hum that lingered in the lonely atmosphere of his mind was put to an end abruptly.

In that split amount of second—The mysterious voice, the thunderous thoughts that rang inside his mind, the soft hum—everything fell silent.

All of a sudden, in the progressively blank corners of his seemingly infinite mind, something started to become visible.

*Crack!*

A sharp sound sliced through the blanket of silence that covered the entire realm as cracks began to form all over—slowly spreading across the invisible walls.

Within mere seconds, the cracks deepened and gradually began to chip away—creating giant openings in the walls.

At first, nothing was visible. But the next second, the space outside the world seemed to contain a life of its own, as it glistened and gleamed in an awe-aspiring beauty of its own.

Countless stars shone in the colorful light of nebulas that encroached on all parts of space.

"Is this going to be your end, you ask?"

A cold, soul-piercing deep voice reverberated in that Mysterious space, its sound slithering its way through the cracks toward Kai's mind.

And if that wasn't enough, outside the cracked boundaries of Kai's mind, slightly visible outlines began to shape themselves into something... Something unreal.

It was a horizontal line that stretched endlessly, curving slightly as if its ends vanished into infinity.

"How pitiful," the mysterious voice sneered as the horizontal line began to rise upwards.

"And you thought you were different."

The lines... No, the eyelids slowly started to open, revealing the bright, glowing crimson that resonated inside the eyes.

Soon, the eyelid opened wide to the top and the eye came into complete sight.

Its sheer size stood incomparable as its iris alone seemed to match the lengths of the infinite.

At the center, was the pupil—long and elongated—stretching vertically across his iris. Unlike normal, the eye in itself seemed to behold a presence of its own as its iris and pupil seemed to conflict with each other.

However, at the same time, they seemed to be complimenting each other, giving birth to an intent so strong that a mere glance would've caused countless stars to get deprived of their lights.

"If you dislike your life so much," the voice rang once again, but this time, its tone felt like the thrust of countless swords—a mix of anger and frustration.

It took a long pause as it moved its eye, shifting its gaze downwards toward the small broken box of Kai's mind, and continued:

"Then let me end it myself."

Outside, in the real world where Kai had just noticed his arm to have fallen into such a pathetic condition by a single graze from Damon's Sword, he—without hesitation—decided to turn around and run.

Kai wasn't fool enough to engage in combat with someone where he knew that he'd lose no matter the techniques or tactics he had tried.

The rapid sounds of panting, filled the field as Kai ran with his life on the line. His body wasn't even in its usable condition as he struggled with even lifting a foot, let alone running.

'Just a graze,' a thought came to his mind as his eyes rolled back towards his partially opened-up hand, covered in blood that dripped off nonstop. 'did this to my arm! I can't fight him!'

It wasn't a sense of combat that made him retreat in such a way. It was fear.

For the first time in his life, not only did he find someone who overpowered his mind with brute strength and almost killed him, but he also saw his lifelong belief break apart right in front of his eyes.

"Ack!" A painful groan suddenly escaped his lungs. He lost his balance and fell down to the ground on his face.

He tried to get up instantly but felt a sharp pain fluctuate in his right leg. He jolted his eyes downwards and widened them in shock.

His right leg was nowhere to be seen.

Gone. Just gone. He blinked—once, twice—but the blood pooling on the dirt didn't lie.

Kai raised his gaze to see what had happened, but as he did so, his hopes, the remnants of his belief, everything got crushed in an instant.

He saw his leg lying on the ground with blood pooling across the cut and staining the tattered clothes that stretched towards something completely different.

It was yet another sword dug deep inside the ground right beside his leg, its edges slithered in crimson.

"No... No, no, no, no... Th-This can't be..." His voice fumbled as he saw Damon still trying to undug his sword.

Kai's face had gone completely pale as he used all the remaining power in his broken body and got up.

Using the spear in his hand as a support, even though slowly—he began to hurriedly walk towards the statue.

His eyes remained widened, trembling, while his body continued to tremble in pain.

Behind him, Daniel walked towards the sword with irrational steps. His eyes were covered in a bright pink aura while familiar beast-like growls escaped his loosened jaws.

He quietly pulled his sword out with both of his hands and turned towards Kai.

And just like before, he threw the sword toward him with all his strength.

But this time, aiming for his head.
