Chapter 54 - Lord Roy!
"Too weak?" Raynare's voice trembled with rage.
A human daring to belittle her, a fallen angel, was unbearable.
But she reined in her impulse to skewer him with a Light Spear.
"Who are you?" she asked, forcing calm.
Roy had hidden his aura from them, undetected until he chose to reveal himself.
Two possibilities existed: either he wielded a special spell to mask his presence, or he was unfathomably powerful, beyond their perception.
Raynare wasn't sure which applied.
If it was a spell, she could handle it.
But if Roy's strength dwarfed theirs, she was in deep trouble.
Asia's Twilight Healing was her ticket to climbing the Grigori's ranks.
Missing this chance could doom her to a Low existence forever.
"Smarter than those two fallen angels who came in screaming murder, Raynare," Roy chuckled.
"You know my name," Raynare looked surprised.
"So you're the one."
She'd never met Roy beyond that one night intrusion.
His knowledge of her name likely came from that monitor.
"Those two screaming for murder—Kalawarner and Dohnaseek, right?" Mittelt cut in, glaring at Roy.
"What'd you do to them?"
"Sent them back to God's embrace, I guess," Roy said, his tone casual.
"You killed them?" Mittelt's face tightened, fury flashing in her eyes.
She gripped her Light Spear, ready to strike.
"They, plus a stray exorcist named Freed Sellzen, barged into my villa uninvited, shouting about killing me," Roy smiled.
"Pretty rude. I sent them packing—permanently."
"You're just a human," Mittelt snarled.
"No way you took out two fallen angels."
"Where's your backup? Call them out!"
"Quiet, Mittelt," Raynare snapped.
She descended, landing gracefully, and spoke politely. "Kalawarner and Dohnaseek trespassed on your home. Their deaths are their fault."
"But Asia Argento—she's ours," Raynare said.
"Can you return her?"
"Asia?" Roy shook his head.
"You're mistaken. She's with me now."
"So you're after her Sacred Gear too."
"I wanted to settle this peacefully," Raynare giggled, "but you're not cooperating. Don't expect us to play nice."
Twilight Healing was a one-of-a-kind Sacred Gear.
Raynare couldn't let it slip away.
Roy might've killed Kalawarner and Dohnaseek, but she outclassed them.
Even if she couldn't win, she was confident she could escape.
Worst case, she'd report Asia's Sacred Gear to her superiors.
A cadre's intervention would crush Roy, though it'd cost Raynare some credit.
"By the way, before we throw down," Roy said, grinning at Raynare and Mittelt, "got a question. You two virgins?"
"Huh?" Mittelt's eyes widened, caught off guard.
Raynare blinked, then sneered.
"Human, you think you can bed us?"
"This guy's got that kind of idea?" Mittelt gave out a disgusted look.
"A human lusting after us?"
"Think hard before answering," Roy said. "It's a life-or-death question."
His right hand shimmered, the Boosted Gear materializing.
"Sacred Gear?" Raynare's gaze locked onto it, her expression turning serious.
"No wonder you took out Kalawarner and Dohnaseek."
"Just a human with a Sacred Gear," Mittelt scoffed.
"I'll make you regret crossing us."
"Same old script," Roy raised his hand.
Soon, a deep voice echoed.
Boost!
Raynare laughed.
"I was worried it had some fancy trick, but it's just a power booster!"
Her initial caution faded.
Roy's Sacred Gear seemed like a run-of-the-mill gauntlet-type, nothing to fear.
"Last chance to rephrase."
"Human, you're—" Raynare started, but the gauntlet's voice cut her off.
Boost!
Boost!
Boost!
Boost!
The deep voice rang out four more times.
"Impossible!" Raynare's face paled, her voice shaking. "How's it chaining that many unless it's…"
Her words trailed off, eyes locking onto Roy's mocking smile.
Dread hit her like a wave, her face draining of color.
"Figured it out, huh?" Roy said, chuckling.
"Figured what?" Mittelt asked, confused.
Less versed in Sacred Gear, she didn't grasp the gravity, but Raynare's fear unnerved her.
"Lady Raynare, what's wrong?"
"Sekiryuutei…" Raynare whispered, trembling.
Her wings shed feathers, her lips quivering.
The Boosted Gear wasn't ordinary—it was a Longinus, housing the Red Dragon Emperor.
Roy stepped closer, stopping beside Raynare.
Her legs buckled, fear rooting her in place as he approached.
"Lady Raynare!" Mittelt raised her Light Spear, ready to intervene, but Raynare's shout stopped her.
"Don't, Mittelt!" Raynare yelled, sweat beading on her brow, her back soaked.
"Stand down!"
That idiot nearly got them killed.
Screaming with all her might saved them from annihilation.
"What's happening?" Mittelt said, a bit baffled.
Was this human that terrifying? Even with a Sacred Gear, this panic seemed excessive.
"Shut up!" Raynare barked.
"Get down here, kneel, and show respect to this lord!"
She dropped to her knees with a thud, urging Mittelt.
"Now! If you want to live, do it!"
Mittelt gaped, stunned, but Raynare's desperation and the word "lord" sank in.
Gritting her teeth, eyes burning with humiliated rage, she folded her wings and knelt beside Raynare.
"Smart move."
Roy lifted Raynare's chin, his smile was deceptively kind.
"Now, about that question I asked earlier?"
