Zi Zhen's fingers clenched faintly against the folder's edges as a dark, cold smirk curled his lips. "So… they are living well. So lavishly..."
Xiao Ru's gaze sharpened, "Not really. These were taken within the last month. They frequent exclusive clubs under the Li family name… trampling anyone beneath them without restraint."
A flicker of old memories, sharp and searing, flitted through Zi Zhen's mind: their sneers when he approached them as their brother, covered in bruises and dirt, begging to be acknowledged… to be fed but they would always push him away...
Even when they knew he was sickly and getting bullied at school, they would laugh at him and sometimes cheer those kids who bullied him.. with those two, they never had a close relationship, it had turned sour and it was the same with that man who was his biological father, he couldn't be compared to even a quarter of a quarter of Lu Zhi Hao.
He turned the page, finding additional briefings tucked within.
"And this?" he asked coldly.
Shiyan cleared her throat softly, "The burning car incident, Young Master. When you had fled away six years ago, the car your mom had abandoned back then at a parking lot had been found charred, and the Li family believes that you all had burnt down with that car, you even have tombstones.. Li Feng is personally leading an internal investigation on it… Witnesses say a black Land Rover was trailing it before it exploded. Authorities believe foul play...."
"Hahaha... Why is he investigating it anyways? But we had abandoned the car while operating very well, unless a bomb had been installed in the car or someone had burnt it... I need you to check it out...." That felt so bizarre...
Zi Zhen's brows furrowed. He leaned back against his desk, tapping his fingers rhythmically, "And what about the airport attack back then… anything?"
Xiao Ru shook his head solemnly, "We have traced no definitive leads on who ordered the strike against you and Young Madam Wan Ruyi during your escape."
Silence settled thick in the room. The only sound was the hum of the air conditioning and the faint rustling of Shiyan flipping to the last page.
"There is one final matter. Last night, Li Bo Yen and Li Ren got into a fight with Young Master Su at the Golden Phoenix Club. They incurred gambling debts in the millions… Young Master Su called Li Feng for the debt, and he transferred a property to him as a repayment."
Zi Zhen snorted sharply, his dark eyes gleaming with cold, amused contempt, "That Su family brat… what a petty move."
He reached for his phone on the desk, unlocking it with a swift thumb swipe before dialling a private number from memory. Xiao Ru and Lu Shiyan bowed slightly, stepping back as he raised the phone to his ear, his smile turning sharp like a blade hidden in silk.
The line rang twice before a deep, languid voice answered. "Who is this?"
"Su Qing," Zi Zhen drawled softly, leaning against the edge of his desk with deadly grace, "I hear you have been playing with stray dogs lately."
There was a pause, then low laughter filtered through the speaker, dark and amused, "Ah… if it isn't Lu Zi Zhen I think there couldn't be anyone else to tease me. You are back to reclaim your throne already?"
"Perhaps..." Zi Zhen's smirk deepened, eyes glinting with cruel mirth, "I hear you have collected some broken toys from the Li family. Keep them… or use them however you please. But I have other businesses with you."
