Sofia's body felt like a battlefield, every inch aching from the stress of today. When Daelen dropped her off at her house after their tutoring session, she was in no mood to engage in conversation. She barely glanced at him, her fingers trembling slightly as she closed the door behind her.
Daelen, ever the protector, hesitated, watching her closely, but he knew when to give space and when to push. "I'll see you tomorrow, Sofia," he called out softly, but she didn't answer.
She didn't need to say anything-her silence spoke volumes.
Inside, Sofia felt her heart racing as she walked through the front door. Her parents, Emris and Aisha, were sitting in the living room. Aisha's eyes softened when she saw her daughter. But Emris, ever the watchful father, saw the tension in Sofia's body and immediately stood up, his brows furrowing in concern.
"Something's wrong," Emris said, his voice thick with the protective instinct that had always been there.
Sofia tried to give him a weak smile, but it didn't reach her eyes. "It's nothing, Dad."
"Nothing?" Emris repeated, walking toward her, his tone more insistent. "You're not fooling anyone. What happened, Sofia?"
She opened her mouth, but the words didn't come. Instead, she bit down on her lip, trying to hold back the tears that had been threatening to break free all day.
Before she could say anything, Aisha stood up and walked over to Sofia, cupping her face gently with her hands. "Sweetheart, talk to us. We're here for you."
Tears welled in Sofia's eyes as she finally collapsed into her mother's arms, her sobs silent but full of emotion. The pain of the bullying she had endured earlier that day flooded back. The cruel words, the isolation, the way she felt so alone-even with Daelen at her side. She had tried so hard to hide it, but it was too much.
"It's okay, sweetheart. It's okay," Aisha whispered, gently rocking Sofia in her arms.
Sofia's voice broke as she whispered, "They hurt me, Mom... they really hurt me. I just-why did they have to do this?"
Emris clenched his fists at his sides, a quiet anger rising in his chest. His protective fatherly instincts took over. "Who did this to you? Tell me, Sofia."
"I don't want to cause trouble," Sofia said softly, wiping her eyes. "I just want to forget it ever happened."
"No," Emris said firmly, crouching down to her level. "We won't let this go. This isn't something you can just forget. Not when you're hurt. We're going to take action."
Sofia looked at her father, her gaze filled with fear and uncertainty. "Dad, please don't make a big deal out of it."
Emris took her hands in his. "This is a big deal, Sofia. No one has the right to treat you like that. You don't have to go through this alone. We'll make sure it doesn't happen again."
The next morning, Daelen showed up at Sofia's house, knocking gently on the door. When Sofia answered, she looked a little more composed but still worn out.
"How are you doing today?" Daelen asked, his eyes scanning her face for any sign of distress.
"I'll be okay," she said, offering him a small smile. But Daelen wasn't fooled. He could see the lingering sadness in her eyes.
"You don't have to pretend with me, Sofia," he said softly. "I know it's been tough."
Sofia sighed, brushing her hair back. "I just... I don't know how to deal with everything that's been happening. I feel so-so exposed, I guess. I don't want to be weak."
Daelen shook his head, his expression gentle. "You're not weak. You've been through a lot. You're just trying to figure out how to cope. And it's okay to need help with that."
She looked at him, her eyes vulnerable, and for a moment, Daelen could see just how much she was struggling.
"Let's just get started with tutoring," she said, trying to change the subject, but Daelen could see she wasn't ready to move past her emotions just yet.
After their tutoring session, Daelen walked Sofia to the car, concerned for her well-being. But he noticed something was different-Sofia was more distant than usual. She wasn't as warm or engaging as she normally was, and it made him uneasy.
"Sofia," Daelen began, but she didn't respond. "I know you're upset. And I don't want to push you, but if there's anything you want to talk about, I'm here."
She paused for a moment, then slowly met his gaze. "I just want to get through the day without thinking about it. I don't want to burden anyone else with my problems."
"That's not a burden, Sofia. You're not alone in this," Daelen said firmly, but Sofia didn't respond.
Later That Day
Emris was not the kind of father to sit idly by when his daughter was hurt. He made a call to the university's administration, demanding an immediate meeting. When Sofia wasn't around, Emris wasted no time in storming into the office of the university's dean.
"I need to speak with someone in charge," Emris said, his voice clipped. "My daughter is a student here, and I expect her to be safe. What steps are you taking to ensure her well-being, and why has nothing been done about the bullying that occurred?"
The dean, caught off guard by Emris' anger, quickly ushered him into a meeting room.
"I understand your concerns, Mr. Amina," the dean began, attempting to calm the situation. "We take these matters very seriously. We're currently investigating the incident."
"Investigation? That's not good enough," Emris snapped. "My daughter has been hurt, and you're telling me you're investigating? I want answers. I want actions. Now."
Daelen's POV
Daelen had been in the middle of his classes when he saw Emris and Sofia walking into the administration office. He had been about to head to the library, but something about the way Emris stood, his posture straight and determined, caught his attention.
He made his way to the office, lingering outside the door, listening to the heated conversation. He heard Emris' firm voice as he confronted the university official about the lack of student safety. Daelen felt his heart sink.
He knew Sofia was going through something difficult, but hearing it from her father made it hit closer to home. He couldn't just stand by while Sofia suffered. He would do whatever he could to help her.
He stood there for a moment, watching through the glass window, before deciding to walk in. As the door opened, Emris turned his head toward him, the edge of concern still lingering in his gaze.
"Daelen," Emris greeted him curtly. "You're here for Sofia?"
Daelen nodded, his expression serious. "Is there anything I can do?"
Emris sighed, stepping toward him. "Make sure she knows she's not alone. Keep being there for her. She's going through more than she's letting on."
Daelen glanced inside at Sofia, who was sitting with her head down, her hands folded tightly in her lap. She looked fragile, and Daelen felt a surge of protectiveness rise within him.
"I will," Daelen promised, his voice steady.
Emris gave a single nod of approval before turning back to the administrator, making sure his daughter's safety would no longer be ignored.
As Daelen left the administration office, he couldn't help but glance over his shoulder. He knew Sofia had a long road ahead of her, but with the support of her family-and him-she wouldn't have to walk it alone.
The Next Morning: A New Resolve
The next day, Daelen arrived at Sofia's house for their tutoring session. As he knocked on the door, he felt a sense of urgency in his chest. Sofia was still struggling, and he knew he had to be there for her, whether she asked for help or not.
When Sofia opened the door, she was a little more composed, but the exhaustion was still written all over her face.
"How are you feeling today?" Daelen asked, his tone gentle.
Sofia offered a small, tired smile. "I'm doing better. Thank you, Daelen."
"Good," he said, walking inside. "And if you need anything, you know I'm here, right?"
Sofia nodded. "I know. Thank you."
She was still carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, but now, with Daelen and her father by her side, she knew she wasn't alone. Not anymore
