Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 – Trial by Love and Death: The Fiancé’s Galactic Test Begins

Haruna's eyes widened in disbelief as the bizarre scene unfolded before her. A robot shaped like an octopus was darting across the school grounds, tentacles flailing wildly, carrying a struggling female student—none other than Yui Kotegawa. Another figure clung to the robot, desperately trying to free her. The robot smashed into fences, benches, and startled students scrambled out of its path.

"Wait… is that Aizawa-san?" Haruna muttered, shocked as she recognized the boy on the robot. And there are other people beside him—"Kotegawa-san?!"

She watched as Haruno moved with surprising agility, expertly disabling the robot's tentacles and cradling Yui safely in his arms as they landed. The sight struck her deeply. Haruno had always seemed a little strange—mysterious even—but now, watching him act so decisively, so bravely… it stirred something in her chest. Was this the same boy who helped Lala defy her father? The stories suddenly felt all too real.

So caught up in watching him, Haruna didn't notice the robot's erratic movement as it lunged again—this time straight toward her.

"Ah—!" she gasped, too late to dodge.

In a blur, Haruno reappeared, punching the robot with such force it exploded midair, sending fragments scattering. The blast sent him flying—and right into Haruna.

Everything happened in a heartbeat.

Their bodies collided, and Haruna gasped as she suddenly found herself on the ground, Haruno landing on top of her. Their faces were close—too close—and before she could react, their lips met in a completely accidental kiss. Her heart skipped several beats. Time froze.

Then she felt it—his hand. On her chest.

Haruna's face turned a deep crimson. She stared up at Haruno, speechless, her mind caught between embarrassment and confusion.

Haruno blinked in surprise, clearly not meaning for any of this to happen. "I—I'm sorry! I didn't mean to—!" Haruno said to her.

Still stunned, Haruna could only nod slowly, lips tingling, her heart pounding like crazy. The feeling lingered… awkward, unexpected—and unforgettable.

Haruna's breath caught as she lay there, stunned. Her lips still tingled from the accidental kiss, and her chest throbbed—not from pain, but from the strange warmth that lingered where Haruno's hand had been. Was that… my first kiss? she thought, eyes slightly glazed as the moment repeated in her mind like a looping dream.

"I-It's fine…" she murmured, her voice almost a whisper, though Haruno was still on top of her. His body pressed lightly against hers, and for some reason, she didn't feel the urge to push him away. Her cheeks burned, but her heart was pounding harder than ever.

"Ahaha… sorry," Haruno chuckled awkwardly, trying to move. "Looks like I've overdone it… Can you push me off? I might've used too much power…"

But as he tried to shift, he lost balance again—and this time, his head dropped straight onto Haruna's chest.

"Hya—!" Haruna gasped, but quickly bit her lip. "It's… okay," she added, her voice unusually soft.

To her surprise, she didn't feel upset. In fact, the sensation of his head resting against her firm, sensitive curves sent a strange, euphoric shiver down her spine. His warmth, his scent, the weight of him—it was all too much. She clutched at her skirt to keep herself grounded.

Why am I not pushing him off? Why does this feel… good?

And yet, as she looked down at Haruno, a pang struck her heart. He already has someone… The reminder made her chest ache, even more than his head pressing into it.

"Geez, what's going on here?!" Yui finally arrived, her voice sharp as she took in the sight of Haruno lying face-first on Haruna.

"S-Sorry, Yui…" Haruno mumbled, still buried in softness. "Could you, uh… help move me? Or I might really get a nosebleed…"

Haruno couldn't help but muse over his powers again. At the very least, he was glad that the usual nosebleed didn't show up during that dire moment. That was progress, right? A small win. Though, he had to admit, it was hard to stay serious while lying atop Sairenji Haruna's incredibly soft breasts. The warmth, the subtle scent, and the sheer softness almost made him forget he had just saved her from a rogue alien robot. And unfortunately, the sensation reminded him all too clearly of what had happened that morning. Right now, with his face nestled between two perfectly shaped "pudding peaks," it was more than a little distracting.

"Okay, Sairenji-san, can you push him off a bit? I'll help you," Yui said firmly, breaking the moment.

Before either of them could react, another familiar voice called out, "Wawawa! I'm so sorry! I'll take him to the infirmary!"

Lala descended from the sky like a whirlwind and, without breaking a sweat, picked Haruno up and hoisted him over her shoulder. Her strength, as always, was superhuman.

"I'm really sorry, Sairenji-san… especially after doing something so shameless," Haruno apologized as Lala carried him off. "If there's anything I can do to make up for it, just say the word."

Haruna, however, stood frozen. Her mind reeled from everything she'd just witnessed—flying robots, chaotic rescues, and now a flying princess casually abducting a classmate. It was so surreal that she might just faint from mental overload. Still, even as her mind scrambled for logic, the warmth of Haruno's lips lingered faintly on hers. A memory she couldn't shake.

Back in the infirmary, Haruno recovered faster than expected. Unlike previous episodes, he only needed fifteen minutes to shake off the fatigue. It was his quickest recovery yet, but also the weakest version of the mysterious "love-powered" strength he'd used. Clearly, something needed improvement.

"The realist thing to do is train your body," Ryouko-sensei advised, arms crossed as she watched Haruno get up from the bed. Meanwhile, Lala and Yui were left cleaning up the chaos. Thankfully, this was To-Love-Ru world—where flying robots, explosions, and accidental kisses were practically daily occurrences after Lala's arrival.

With a principal as outrageously perverted as theirs, it was no surprise that incidents like these never caused any real trouble—no PTA complaints, no student council hearings, and certainly no disciplinary action against Lala, no matter how chaotic her inventions turned out to be.

"That's true. Well, I've got a plan," Haruno said with a thoughtful nod. "I mean, Lala already knows someone with real skill, right?" He was referring to Zastin—commander of the Devilukean military, elite swordsman of galactic renown, and possibly the perfect mentor for someone like him. It felt like a no-brainer. If he wanted to get stronger, Zastin was the man to approach… after, of course, delivering a message from the king himself.

That opportunity came later that evening. After a rare peaceful day spent shopping for groceries, Haruno, with Yui and Lala's help, prepared a simple yet heartwarming dinner. It had been a while since he experienced something this domestic, but the quiet wouldn't last. After dinner, Zastin pulled Haruno aside for a private conversation at a nearby park.

"I bring you a direct message from Lala-sama's father, King Deviluke," Zastin said gravely, his tone formal. "The man who united a fractured universe and rules at its pinnacle. So listen carefully."

Zastin then activated a holographic projection. The mighty voice of King Deviluke boomed through the air, full of pride and ominous authority. "Haruno Aizawa, I've heard of your deeds from Zastin. As such, I acknowledge you as one of Lala's fiancés. I had my doubts—Earthlings are known to be rather weak—but I've been told you may be a diamond in the rough. That's promising. Since you're the first man Lala's ever shown interest in, I'm watching closely."

The king's tone darkened. "There will be a marriage ceremony. I'll decide when. Until then, protect Lala at all costs. The galaxy already knows who you are. Other candidates will come. They'll challenge you, try to steal her away. If you manage to guard her and complete the ceremony without failure, then you shall inherit my throne. But if you fail…"

Haruno swallowed hard as the king's voice roared one last threat: "If you let Lala be taken, I'll crush your life—along with that tiny planet of yours. Remember that well."

It was quite the overwhelming explanation—one that left Haruno speechless for a few seconds. The idea of protecting Lala was already intense, but the consequences of failure? Catastrophic.

"That's… something else," Haruno muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. "So if I screw up, Earth gets obliterated? That's a bit much."

Zastin, now having turned off the voice recorder, nodded solemnly. "Yes, King Deviluke has a strong personality. There was once a man who disrespected him. Not only was he destroyed, but so was his entire planet. The king doesn't tolerate failure."

Haruno's face stiffened. "That's worse than genocide… Alright then, if the stakes are that high, could I ask you to train me? I mean, you're probably the best person in the galaxy for this. I need to be strong enough to protect Lala, right?"

Zastin paused, clearly considering the idea. Haruno's heart lifted for a second, hopeful—until the answer came.

"It's a reasonable request," Zastin said. "But I must decline. As one of Deviluke's commanders, I'm required to remain neutral regarding Lala's fiancé candidates. If I trained only you, it would be seen as favoritism. Even if Lala herself favored you, I must remain impartial."

Haruno let out a sigh. "Ah, I see. That's… understandable, I guess." He scratched his head, defeated. His plan hadn't just failed—it crashed and burned spectacularly.

"Well, that's too bad. Looks like I'll have to find someone else to train me," Haruno said to himself quietly, already brainstorming new paths forward. For now, he'd have to rely on what little training he could manage on his own.
