"You can't tell me that. No…" I heard Mum's voice clearly over the phone as I nonchalantly walked to the dressing room to call her attention.
It was time for the introduction, and everyone was waiting for my arrival.
I pressed my ear against the door, my hand trembling on the handle, afraid to open it. From her voice, she was clearly angry, and I doubted everything was fine.
I could feel deep down that all wasn't alright.
Does it have anything to do with the surprise they'd mentioned earlier? I thought as I noticed the call had come to an end. I slowly unlocked the door and stepped inside.
"Mum, it's time for the introduction," I stated, standing by the door.
"I'm sorry. Just get one of the maids to lead you to the podium. I have something very important to sort out," Mum snapped as she turned into the next room.
"Mum," I called out, but she ignored me.
A sharp jolt shot through my spine; a warning that something was terribly wrong.
