An officer approached the gates, his face curled in disgust. His eyes locked with mine like I was something filthy clinging to the earth.
I turned away, pretending not to care, but every second clawed deeper into my chest. I'm not going to let them break me; or so I think, but the mere thought of their reactions cuts deeper than the knife itself,
causing everything in me to crumble.
Even my own parents… I exhaled, letting the air out of my lungs to free the ache that refused to leave my chest.
Then, I noticed someone by the gates and instinctively lifted my gaze to meet eyes I had never expected to see.
"Doctor Jack!" I called out, and he let out a small smile before walking into the room.
The silence stretched out between us as my mind reeled with thoughts of his intentions for coming in. Had he also come to make a mockery of me? To assault me as every other person out there did?
I sniffed as I lifted my gaze to lock with his.
