Chapter 10 - Chapter 9 - The Tournament

DUN DUN.

The time has come. Trillions of fighters from all around the omniverse is transported to the platform. The fighters are all confused. "Welcome! Welcome!" Xebec yells on one of the thrones. There is a floating row of thrones, where Onyx, … , Doh, Axel, and Xebec are sitting on each of them. "This is the ultimate tournament! The strongest and weakest fighters are here!"

"Two Earth months passed? Didn't even realize!" Damian exclaims. Damian, Seygah, Kate, Zachary, Oval, and Eichika are overwhelmed by the sudden instantaneous teleportation then being on a platform in the middle the omniverse with trillions of other fighters. "I want to go home! I quit fighting forever ago!" Someone yells. Xebec points at him, "too bad, moron! You're fighting anyway!" Axel quickly turns to Xebec, about to get up and fight him, "you said fighters not fighters and retired fighters!"

"Once a fighter always a fighter," Xebec shrugs nonchalantly. A major outrage breaks out in the platform, the battlefield, of course everyone's mad and chaotic. "It is clear that everyone is ready to fight! So what are we waiting for! Let the tournament begin!" Xebec yells. Nobody was actually going to fight until maniacs begin throwing energy blasts everywhere. The absolutely chaotic battle begins!

Blades clash with beams, fists meet magic, and spells detonate like fireworks across a sky that doesn't exist. The ground beneath the fighters ripples like liquid, responding to the sheer absurd density of battle. Some warriors ride beasts the size of planets; others are beasts the size of planets. Curses fly. Guns sing. Dimensions fracture.

And in the midst of all that, Seygah, Damian, Kate, Zachary, Oval, and Eichika stand in a tight cluster, trying not to get obliterated.

A flaming pillar crashes down behind them. Seygah spins and slices it in half with a flicker of will before it touches the group. "We can't stay here," he says. "We'll get buried in minutes."

"I agree," Damian nods, stepping in front of Eichika protectively as a massive serpent-like combatant crashes nearby. "We move. Now."

"But where?!" Kate yells, swatting away a giant shard of ice with her blade. "This thing is the size of infinity and it's all battlefield!" Before anyone can answer, a jagged arc of void-light shoots toward them. Oval reacts instantly—her hands glowing with shimmering, prismatic energy. A translucent reality bubble pops up around the group. The attack slams into the bubble and rebounds, reversing direction and splattering the attacker into fractured particles.

"Keep behind me," Oval says, sweat on her brow. "These can only take so much…" More blasts rain in. Oval throws up three more bubbles—one traps an incoming attacker, distorting them into a slowed blur of motion, another bounces a psychic scream back at its source, and the third distorts into a spinning sphere that eats the energy bolt sent their way. Kate slashes forward and carves open a path through a pile of crawling mechanical corpses. "There! Run!" They sprint.

"I'm getting excited! And not in a good way!" Zachary yells.

"There's no point! We're not contenders in this. They're just using us as cannon fodder!" Oval yells, scared.

"Then survive!" Damian snaps. "Survival is winning!"

A sudden tear in the air drops a squad of spectral assassins into their path. They leap forward, blades drawn—and are vaporized midair by Seygah's palm flick, his aura briefly glowing before vanishing again. Eichika stumbles, nearly falling. She grabs Damian's leg instinctively, eyes wide and shimmering with panic. He picks her up with one arm and shields her with the other, staring forward with grim resolve. Xebec watches and is eager. "Look at them all go! Look at guy, how cool is that!" His throne quickly flies farther down, "hey! You dying already?"

"Why?" The dying fighter says as he gasps shakily.

As Seygah runs he falls down a hole, the others don't notice him. As Seygah lands, he looks around only to see a strange entity. It was like looking at everything but nothing, an incomprehensible figure. A matte black figure with an eerily blank and with little detailed face, its hair like a black fire. "What are you?" Seygah hesitantly asks. The figure doesn't respond with a voice, but instead with a feeling within Seygah's very being.

Un.

Seygah continues to stare silently at this figure, this strange being that is supposedly named "Un."

"Where am I?"

There is no answer yet again, only a feeling within Seygah's very being.

Hole. Outside.

"That doesn't make any sense!" Seygah exclaims, overwhelmed. "I want out of here!"

Okay.

Seygah then is teleported back to the platform, but he is instantly attacked, but then saved by a strange woman. "What just happened? This is so weird…" Seygah thinks to himself. "Hey, you okay?" The woman asks, carrying Seygah as she runs. She was a looker, curvy, mesmerizing eyes, fast, and strong. All of a sudden her entire body blows up and Seygah falls to the ground, rolling then quickly getting up. "Not too surprised by that!" He exclaims. He then goes to look for his friends.

A planet-sized hammer swings through the sky, crushing hundreds of airborne fighters in a single sweep. A cloud of nano-insects devours a city-sized centaur made of data. A wizard laughs maniacally as he detonates himself into a black hole, pulling in ten thousand screaming competitors before being sealed by a passing monk with glowing beads. A mountain gets up and starts walking, shouting its name.

Kate slices a mutant fire-wolf down the middle, ducking under a barrage of psychic knives as Zachary punches through a stone-skinned brute with a burst of plasma. "That felt gross!"

"Don't stop to think!" Kate shouts, dodging a tentacle-wielding swordswoman with mirror eyes. A time-loop explosion goes off in the distance, replaying the same detonation every second. The sky is a mess of storms, explosions, laughter, weeping gods, and television static. Oval tosses another reality bubble as a skeletal warlord approaches, its sword dripping stars. The bubble catches the slash and bends it, turning it into a spiral that cuts into the warlord's own chest. It collapses in confusion. "I need a recharge soon!" Oval says, clutching her head. Seygah casually boots a triple-headed void-ape off the edge of the platform. It never hits the ground. There is no ground.

Damian grits his teeth, still holding Eichika, who clings to him like a terrified kitten. A ten-eyed demon leaps toward them—Damian crushes its skull with a sharp elbow and keeps moving. A tree made of screaming faces uproots itself and launches into the air, slapping everything around it with its thousand crying branches. It grabs a god in a white cloak and throws him through four layers of reality. Kate grabs one of the roots and hurls it into a passing jet-shark. Meanwhile, a choir of energy beings begin harmonizing in a frequency that causes some fighters to implode into rainbows. One fighter joins the harmony… and ascends into pure joy. Xebec sees this and immediately throws a beer bottle at him. "Get serious! No transcendence till round three!"

An explosion in the shape of a question mark erupts. Nobody knows what caused it. Reality bends and someone shouts "BINGO!" and melts. A three-headed golden rooster made of light lays an egg that hatches into a younger version of the rooster, which then attacks the original. Everyone nearby gets caught in a philosophical loop and just sits down, confused. Oval launches a cluster of deflection bubbles like grenades, rebounding multiple attacks back at their senders. One bubble traps an interdimensional parasite that was about to consume Damian from the shadows. It slams against the inside of the sphere, screeching. Oval smirks and pops it like a balloon. A combatant made of 8-bit pixels leaps toward Seygah—Seygah punches him once, and he glitches out of existence. Seygah then spots the others and heads to them, "found you guys!"

"Good to see ya, buddy!" Damian exclaims.

"Come on! Let's go!" Kate yells.

The group makes a run for it, passing a battlefield where an army of cybernetic ants is losing to a girl with a tambourine. Above, the floating thrones shift. Xebec is now laying sideways, sipping from a soda can. Doh is folding himself into origami and giggling at his own feet. Axel is visibly agitated. "This isn't a tournament," he growls. "It's a zoo."

"Relax," Xebec says, eyes glinting. "The chaos filters the worthy. Eventually, something interesting will rise from the storm."

And back on the ground…

The storm shows no signs of stopping.
