Courtney retreated outside the room again. Claude got up and followed her to a spot in the long hallway. No one else was in the stretch, as if everyone either kept to themselves inside their rooms or was stuck in another office or store. The young lady leaned on the windowsill, staring at the sleepy city outside. Claude only stayed close so they didn't have to speak in a volume audible to humans.
She glanced at him, who was within slapping distance. "You're also a wolf like us. You should know about mates. Why do you keep getting in between me and Len? No matter what you do, he won't be yours. He's an Alpha. He needs a female partner for the pack."
"Don't say it like I don't know." Claude had his elbow on the wide windowsill, eyes on the same scenery.
