Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Lost Memories—The Reason for the Hatred Revealed (Final)

A flicker of three tomoe in his eyes, and a simple genjutsu lulled the unsuspecting Hikari into sleep. Gazing at the girl, Uchiha Gin's weary eyes brimmed with regret.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Uchiha Tajima atop the ruins, their crimson eyes locked. The tomoe in their pupils spun rapidly.

Gin's three tomoe vanished, morphing into his unique, tomoe-less Mangekyo. Tajima's eyes shifted into a windmill pattern.

[Tsukuyomi]

As Gin's pupil power surged, a red moon rose, its bloody light bathing the Uchiha clan grounds. Survivors looked up, entranced by the sudden spectacle.

Tajima's eyes widened, his windmill pupils spinning faster.

[Betsutenjin]

Their pupil powers intertwined. Above, a windmill emblem slowly formed on the red moon.

As the giant windmill turned, those gazing at the moon felt dizzy. A powerful mental force flooded their minds, imprinting the windmill emblem.

"It worked," Gin said, straining to maintain Tsukuyomi. He'd only synced Mangekyo with Hikari before—never expected such synergy with Tajima, likely due to their close blood ties.

"What should we call it?" Tajima asked, eyeing the eerie moon.

"Limited Tsukuyomi," Gin replied, scratching his curly hair. Lacking naming flair, he figured this might be his final jutsu—fitting enough.

"Whatever makes you happy," Tajima said, glancing at his nephew with a nod.

"Clan Head, I have a request," Gin said. Under the red moon, all were ensnared in the genjutsu, their eyes bearing Betsutenjin's mark—even Hikari, with her Mangekyo, succumbed. Noticing something, Gin spoke up.

It was the first time he'd called Tajima "Clan Head." Tajima knew this request was crucial.

"Speak."

"When this ends, transplant my eyes to Hikari. My body…" Gin reiterated. Having exhausted his pupil power, he'd felt the terror of blindness and didn't want Hikari to endure it.

Her new Eternal Mangekyo could protect her—and, if he survived, shield him from Madara's bullying.

If he died… next, he hoped for a chaotic harem anime.

Unaware of Gin's wild thoughts, Tajima nodded silently. Miao had already warned him—Gin's body was a flickering candle, his survival uncertain.

Everyone in the clan grounds, including late arrivals, bathed in the red moonlight.

In a distant corner, an old man—Uchiha Yao—froze, his twisted face slack, his eyes showing he'd fallen to Limited Tsukuyomi.

After an eternity, the moon faded into the black night. In the ruins, Gin gave Tajima a weak thumbs-up.

Before Tajima could respond, Gin's face twisted. Blood sprayed from his eyes, nose, and mouth. His frail, blood-soaked body collapsed backward.

"Gin!" Tajima flashed forward, catching him. Feeling a faint heartbeat, he exhaled in relief.

Those hit by Betsutenjin's Limited Tsukuyomi awoke. Seeing the ravaged clan grounds, survivors wept, cursing the enemy attackers—but none mentioned Gin.

Their memories were rewritten. The clan grounds' destruction wasn't Gin's doing but the work of mysterious foes.

They recalled only the clan head's mansion and key sites being attacked, a few clansmen, Tajima's wife, and children slain, half the grounds leveled—survivors' fates unknown.

Miao and Yan, also awakened, saw Tajima cradling a bloodied Gin and rushed over.

"Clan Head, Gin's in bad shape," Miao, a medical expert, said. "He's burned out. Without treatment, he won't last the night."

"I'll hunt those cowards!" Yan, fixated on the enemy, scanned for traces, his eyes faintly red.

Both had succumbed to Limited Tsukuyomi, their memories aligning with the clan's, plus a vague recollection of traveling with Tajima and finding Gin bloodied in the ruins.

"No need. Gin already wiped them out," Tajima said, shocking them.

"No way!" Yan gaped. In his memory, Gin was a useless kid, too weak to awaken the Sharingan.

"Gin awakened the legendary eyes under the enemy's pressure," Tajima lied smoothly. "But he overtaxed them. Check him out."

Handing Gin to Miao, he turned to Yan. "Elder Yan, collect the enemy bodies. Find out who they were."

"Wait, why's Nameless here?" Miao asked, spotting the Hikari while examining Gin.

"I brought her. The scene was too gruesome—she fainted," Tajima said. In others' memories, Hikari, with her unique Sharingan, was a research subject.

"I'll take her back too," Miao said, hoisting both to the research institute.

"My institute… gone?!" Miao wailed, seeing the flattened facility. With it, Gin's records vanished—no proof of his former brilliance remained.

In everyone's altered memories, a subtle disdain for Gin lingered, per his request. Unable to forgive himself despite their amnesia, he chose this self-punishment.

Only children born post-attack would lack this bias.

In a dark corner, Yao awoke, confused, his mind foggy.

Before new memories settled, his eye stung. Its crimson faded to gray, and a flood of memories rewound.

"Phew, nearly fell for Tajima's trick," Yao panted, touching his blinded eye, seething.

[Izanagi]

The forbidden jutsu Izanagi could rewrite a period of unfavorable events into nonexistence, keeping only beneficial outcomes. Duration varied by user, but the casting Sharingan went blind.

Sensing the red moon, cautious Yao had inscribed Izanagi in his eye, auto-triggering to negate harmful jutsu.

Now, another knew the truth.

"Wanryo, let's go," Yao said, stroking a jarred Sharingan. Tajima's Mangekyo outmatched his one-eyed self.

Those eyes held footage of Tajima killing Yao's son, fueling sleepless nights and growing hatred.

Wanryo, his clone, followed, a glint of malice in its dull eyes. "None of these new Mangekyo pairs were it."

---

In the clan's sole medical ward:

"Clan Head, Gin's overexertion is critical. His cells are collapsing, his body ravaged by Mangekyo backlash. Without action, he won't survive tonight," Miao said, unmasking, worried.

"Transplant his eyes to Nameless," Tajima decided after a pause. "The Mangekyo's a burden now. Replace them with normal eyes to ease his strain."

"Yes!" Miao obeyed. He'd thought only Nameless had Mangekyo—Gin's awakening, and ruin, was a shock. "Serves him right…" he muttered, then stopped, puzzled. When had Gin wronged him? Yesterday? Last month?

Unable to recall, he worked. The institute's destruction lost all samples—organs needed recollecting, swelling his workload.

"Yan, find me normal eyes," Miao ordered.

Chubby Yan, tasked, considered grabbing a prisoner's. Passing the morgue, he opted for an enemy corpse's intact pair, prying them from a chest-gouged man, tossing them in nutrient fluid, and reporting back.

Gin, unconscious, underwent surgery. His eyes were preserved in fluid; new ones bandaged onto his face. He lay comatose.

"Clan Head, an emergency," Miao said, holding complex data, grimly approaching Tajima.

"What's wrong with Gin?"

"Data shows his brain endured multiple intense mental shocks. Next awakening, his mind might collapse," Miao explained. Gin's repeated Tsukuyomi combos had wrecked his fragile brain. Not becoming a drooling wreck post-Limited Tsukuyomi was a miracle.

"Any treatment?" Tajima asked.

"Amnesia therapy could lighten his brain's load."

"Amnesia therapy… Got it," Tajima said, his frown easing. Glancing at Gin, he ordered the room's others, "Gin's Mangekyo awakening is classified. No fourth person learns this."

"Yes, Clan Head! I'll transplant the eyes to Nameless," Miao said, leaving with Yan, carrying Gin's eyes.

Huff… huff…

In the cold ward, only Gin's soft breathing remained.

Tajima, deep in thought, raised a hand to Gin's pale forehead. Opening his eyes, windmill Mangekyo spun.

[Betsutenjin]

Cold pupil power sealed Gin's memories, rewriting his blank slate to match the clan's, hiding any inconsistencies.

"Phew…" Tajima panted, closing his eyes. Two Mangekyo uses triggered backlash.

Feeling his eyes' power stall, he knew his Mangekyo was on cooldown—duration unknown.

Meanwhile, Miao operated on the Hikari, transplanting Gin's eyes, then wheeled her to a ward to recover.

"Mmm…" Hikari's long lashes fluttered. Awakening after a day, she felt unprecedented clarity in her eyes. Grabbing a bedside mirror, she studied them.

Activating her Mangekyo, she sensed familiar power in the altered pattern. Spotting a black dot in the center, tears fell.

"Nameless, eyes adjusting?" Miao asked, entering with reports. Seeing her Mangekyo's pattern, he beamed. "Success!"

"Where's Gin?" Hikari wiped her tears, staring at Miao.

"What?" Miao frowned. In his altered memory, Gin and Nameless barely interacted.

"Take me to him!" Her eyes radiated terrifying pressure.

Overwhelmed, Miao caved, leading her to a ward. "The Clan Head's inside—watch your tone."

"I'll go alone," Hikari said, ignoring him, pushing the door open.

She saw Gin, familiar yet asleep, a faint smile on his lips, as if dreaming something sweet.

Tajima stood by, weary, rubbing his eyes.

"Clan Head, how's Gin?" Hikari asked softly, her earlier intensity gone.

"Hikari? Why are you here?" Tajima looked up, bleary. She should've been hit by Limited Tsukuyomi.

"I remember! I remember everything!" Hikari babbled. Before fainting, she'd feared forgetting Gin.

Yet, she was immune to Limited Tsukuyomi.

Tajima frowned, confident in his jutsu—unless… He studied her eyes, noting the Mangekyo's altered pattern. "You fused Gin's eyes?"

"Yes, they're part of me now," Hikari said, touching them, mournful.

Tajima recalled Yao's weapon plan: fusing their Mangekyo would birth an unrestricted Eternal Mangekyo, free of pupil power limits and vision loss.

Hikari's fused eyes surpassed his own, explaining her immunity.

"I'm glad you remember Gin, but…" Tajima glanced at the sleeping Gin. "I've sealed his memories. He doesn't know you anymore."

To save Gin's mind, he'd had no choice.

"Why? He did nothing wrong!" Hikari sobbed, collapsing by Gin's bed.

"He loved this clan too deeply," Tajima sighed.

With legendary eyes, Gin could've silenced dissent, buried the truth, and been a hero. Instead, he chose the hardest path.

The Uchiha's power stemmed from their eyes, unlocked by emotion. Outsiders saw them as cold, but a heartless Uchiha would never awaken the Sharingan.

Those who did brimmed with love and hate. Gin's early Mangekyo came from his profound love for family and clan.

"Let me be the weapon!" Hikari, wiping tears, declared resolutely. "With Gin's eyes, I'll protect the clan he loved."

Years later, Hikari, warring for the clan, was ambushed and sealed, her fate unknown. Regretful, Tajima never ceased searching, publicly claiming the "weapon" was too dangerous to fall outside Uchiha hands.

Meanwhile, Tajima, settling scores, swiftly captured Yao—the cause of Gin and Hikari's blackouts—locking him in Cell Zero.

Yao's weapon plan documents, found at his home, were secretly sealed by Tajima.
