Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Rushing the Scene

Liu A'dou breaking the glass with a punch was fully captured by Thomas, who was dumbfounded. So there really was someone who could smash high-rise glass with a single punch? Could he be Batman? It's just that his face wasn't caught on camera, otherwise there might've been a chance to figure out who "Batman" really was.

Liu A'dou came back from the "toilet," slowly arriving late, just missing the shocking news.

"Liu, you missed another big story," Thomas said smugly.

Iselin's face darkened as she glared at the two men, jealous of Thomas, annoyed at Liu A'dou. "Liu, where exactly did you go looking for the toilet?"

"No choice, there's no bathroom nearby. I had to walk two blocks to find a 24-hour convenience store," Liu A'dou said innocently, as if the squashed food inside his clothes had also been bought from the store.

That stuff couldn't be eaten now anyway, might as well toss it somewhere.

"Just a pity we don't know what happened upstairs, otherwise this story would've been even juicier," Thomas said, glancing up at the tall building again, a little regretful.

Liu A'dou thought, of course, Joker showed up.

"Iselin, let's go home."

"You're not following the lady prosecutor anymore?"

Liu A'dou pointed to the flashing red lights in the distance. "The police are here, with Commissioner Gordon around, there's no need for us anymore."

But Iselin wasn't ready to let go of a big scoop. "Since the police are here, that's even more reason for us to stay. There's news here. We can interview the guests upstairs and figure out exactly what happened."

Liu A'dou looked over at Thomas and, helpless, said, "Let's just leave today's news to this senior."

In truth, Iselin knew that without the earlier footage, the station would only use Thomas's coverage anyway. She could only shoot Thomas a glare, full of frustration, before angrily getting into the car.

Thomas was baffled, thinking, who did I offend? I was here first, and I got the news myself.

Inside the hotel, Rachel returned to the rooftop, only to find Bruce had been preparing to rescue her with a rope the entire time. It was just that the rope was too thick, and he moved too slowly.

Unlike the original story, in the movie, Batman had gear at the hotel because Wayne Manor had been destroyed, and he was living here. But now, this was just a hotel. Even though it was part of Wayne Enterprises, Bruce hadn't thought about hiding Batman's suit here.

Harvey, who had been knocked out and hidden by Bruce, also woke up. When he found out that Joker had brazenly crashed the party, he was furious. But it was because they couldn't do anything about Joker that he was so arrogant. Aside from being angry, they were helpless.

But Joker's arrogance would only last until today. Liu A'dou returned to his secret room, changed into his uniform, and rushed to the seaside warehouse.

It was time for the Eye of God to get to work again.

Honestly, Liu A'dou didn't like doing this kind of surveillance. But sometimes, this was the only way to find enemies hidden in the steel jungle.

He'd said before he'd leave Joker to Batman, but now Liu A'dou had changed his mind. After meeting Joker in person, he realized Joker was just asking for a beating, the kind of person Liu A'dou hated most. His face was filthy, his clothes dirty, always rambling nonsense, strutting around pretending to be something—completely unacceptable to Virgo Liu A'dou.

That's right, Liu A'dou was a Virgo.

So he decided to capture Joker himself.

Plugging the USB into the computer, all the network devices in Gotham City were instantly under control. Liu A'dou closed his eyes and started searching for Joker's voice.

After the countless torrents of knowledge from Pandora's Magic Box, he now found that the city's sounds had become even clearer. He could even distinguish the sounds of animals.

That suffering wasn't for nothing. But for now, finding Joker was the priority. Joker's voice should be sharp, with a slight spitting sound.

Wait. Filter out the useless noise. From the massive tangled mess of endless threads, find the one useful strand. Patience was the key.

As long as Joker was near any networked device that could pick up sound, Liu A'dou could find him.

"…Kaitou Kid, Gotham City really has some interesting people…"

Was Joker talking about him? Liu A'dou chuckled and immediately pinpointed Joker's location—only to be stunned. Joker was at City Hall. That guy really was busy. He'd just caused trouble at Gotham Hotel, and now he was rushing off to City Hall, probably planning to kill someone again.

No time to waste. Liu A'dou hopped on the white Kaitou motorcycle and sped off toward Joker.

In the darkness, that white stood out like a sore thumb. People would ask, "Kaitou, why do you butt into everything?" Kaitou Kid would tell you—he was a thief with a sense of justice.

Back then, he often outwitted shady businessmen and gangsters, but he used to rely on the police to bring those bad guys down. Now, in this world, he couldn't trust the police, or the law. The only thing he could rely on was his own strength. So he had no choice but to take matters into his own hands. If he wasn't doing thief stuff, blame Gotham for that.

The motorcycle he stole from Batman—fast and reliable—was way better than his wind-powered glider. Liu A'dou rode the bike and in just over half an hour, he arrived at City Hall.

The parking lot guard was knocked out, and the surveillance room was unattended. Liu A'dou locked onto Joker's position and rushed into the elevator.

"A dash of cyanide, mixed into our righteous councilman's favorite coffee grounds… I can't wait to watch him drink it."

The two small-time thugs on lookout didn't even notice their phones were being used to spy on them. They were too busy admiring Joker's craziness—this was what a real criminal looked like.

Whoosh—

Two shots, and the lookouts were knocked out cold. Kid walked out slowly.

Joker was sharp. As soon as his goons hit the ground, he ducked into a back room, hiding in the shadows, gun in hand. "Who is it this time? Batman? Batman?"

"Sorry to disappoint you—it's me again. How's your dad doing, Joker?" Kid shot back, full of sarcasm.

"You again? Why is it always you?" Joker was baffled. Why would a thief be so obsessed with a murderer? What's the point, huh?

"Yeah, it's me, the Gentleman Thief!" Liu A'dou didn't dare rush in. He leaned against the doorframe and kept talking. "I'm a thief, but when I see something that's too much to ignore, I can't help myself. Like you love killing people, stealing's my job, but meddling in other people's business is my hobby."

"They all say I'm crazy, but I think you're the real lunatic!" Joker was genuinely confused. A busybody thief? First time for everything.

"Thanks for the compliment. Maybe when you're back at Arkham Asylum, you can chat with your fellow inmates about me—help pass the time," Liu A'dou laughed, already holding a flashbang in his hand.

"Hahaha…" Joker laughed too. That was a good one. "Hahaha… Kaitou Kid, you really are something else."

Bang! Bang!

Two shots. Joker fired without hesitation. The bullets punched through the thin wall, but luckily didn't hit Liu A'dou.

Enough talk. Liu A'dou flipped his hand and tossed the flashbang into the room.

Ding—

A flash of light. Joker squeezed his eyes shut, firing wildly to keep anyone from getting close.

His extended mag made it seem like he had endless bullets. Liu A'dou crouched in the corner, unable to make a move. Fine, no need to go in. He rolled across the hallway to the opposite side.

Another flashbang. "Joker, this one's on me."

The light flared again, spilling out the door and through the bullet holes in the wall.

Liu A'dou quickly studied the bullet holes in the wall, calculated the firing position, then raised his magic card gun and shot tranquilizer darts through the holes.

"Ugh… ugh ugh ugh~" Inside the room, Joker staggered into a wobbly dance. Two steps, three steps… six steps, seven steps—after seven steps, he finally collapsed, fast asleep.

The gunfire stopped. Only then did Liu A'dou cautiously approach the doorway, finally confirming Joker was down.

Joker, GET.
