Chapter 15 - 15

We have been in this forest for four days now.

We've killed five goblin tribes, along with some smaller goblin groups, a couple of wild animals (which we ate), and two orcs.

Roma started talking from the back. "My lord, we found a road that possibly leads to the mines," he said in a conflicted voice.

"Is something the matter?"

"Not really, my lord. It's just… this place is a little too empty. It doesn't look like it's been overtaken by barbaric species like goblins and orcs," Roma said.

Casin continued, "That's true, my lord. We haven't seen any trace of wild animals—let alone the barbaric races."

"There might be something wrong with this place. Let's be more careful."

Even though I'm sure someone like me would be fine in any kind of situation, I need to think about the soldiers too.

"My lord, we should move. There's no reason to stand around here. We just need to watch out for dangers," Tonsen said with his bald head gleaming.

"Okay. Let's move toward wherever this road goes."

We started moving again. Not long after, a mine entrance came into view.

"My lord, in an hour or two the sun will be down completely. Should we wait until tomorrow before doing anything?" Everyone looked at me almost pleadingly.

The fuck? Why are you looking at me like that? I might run into a goblin tribe whenever I see one and always messing up our disguise, but I'm not that bad.

"Ahem… Boys, let's go take a look. We just need to get out before night comes. We'll just take a peek." I didn't listen to any of the whining and began walking toward the mine.

Sigh "My lord, at least let's grab a torch before going in."

"That's a good idea, Tonsen. You have a bright future." I patted him on the shoulder.

Now let's get serious. Tonsen leads the way, and we follow him.

After walking for a couple of minutes, we stopped.

"What's that sound?" We looked into each other's eyes. At least my body stats make my whole body stronger—even my eyes—so I could see a little better.

I whispered to the others, "Let's move slowly."

What the fuck is this? A skeleton? When it saw us, it ran toward us.

Tonsen, in front, bashed it with his shield and crushed its skull with another strike.

"And now skeletons show up. How fun," Casin said.

Roma added, "My lord, are you sure that old fox didn't lie to you?"

"It's possible. I don't trust that man at all."

"That might not be the case. These are goblin skeletons. I think they died and became what they are now." Tonsen showed us the skeleton—it really looked like a goblin, but just bones.

"Okay, all of you—are you ready for the adventure?" I called out, hyped.

Why is everyone looking at me like I'm some kind of torturer?

"Hmph. Like it or not, you don't have a choice."

We continued walking. I could smell the deadly air. Is it because of the magic?

[Ding]

[An Accidental Burial Ground Discovered]

You scared me, dumb system. What's that supposed to mean? Whose grave is this?

[This is a burial ground for a demigod like yourself. If you find the body, you might obtain something.]

Say no more. "Boys, let's hurry. If we take care of everything here, we'll be heading home directly."

"Yes, sir." Everyone looked fired up. Whatever this place has, I'm taking it.

We continued deeper into the mine.

"Let me kill this one." I slashed toward its head with my sword and crushed it.

After an hour of walking and nearly a hundred dead skeletons, we finally reached an isolated corner of the mine where we came across a giant black metal door.

"My lord, should I take a look at it first?"

[Other lifeforms should not go close to the door or they will die and become undead.]

Then what should I do, system?

[Just go by yourself. You have a trace of divinity inside you—you'll be fine.]

"Okay. All of you—don't touch anything or you'll die. I'll go by myself. Just wait here."

I heard someone gulp as all of them nodded at me.

The door gave off a chilling aura and was adorned with lots of carvings. A really heavy door. With full force, I barely opened it and got in.

"Wow… didn't I strike it rich now, system?"

[Yes, you did.]

The inside looked like a throne room, with stairs going up to a coffin. The room was full of gold and gems—every item was golden.

I was walking toward the stairs when a golden statue began moving.

"What? Is this one of those guardian things people put up? Hey system, am I good or should I run for it, buddy?"

[No need. This is a standard golem. Just destroy the core and you'll be fine.]

Huff. That's fine. I pulled out my sword and struck its head. The head cracked in half—but nothing happened. The golem still kept moving.

"Umm… why aren't you dead?" Hey system, where's the core you were talking about?

[Generally, in the heart.]

At that moment, the golem struck down. Even though I defended with my shield, I still got pushed back ten steps.

"Okay, that was dangerous." I used wind magic to move fast and pierced its heart—or core, I suppose. The golem vibrated for a second, then collapsed.

I took a defensive posture and waited a minute.

"Umm… is there no one?"

"….."

"Fuck. You were a demigod and this is all you put up to guard you?"

[It's likely because of the nature of their divinity. Since it's death, this was the best method to protect the place. But you're unaffected. The golem was the last resort.]

"Nobody asked. Let's get this over with—I'm too tired for more action."

[For sure. Just touch the coffin and I'll absorb everything for you, then convert it into points you can use.]

"Sure." I climbed up the stairs and approached the coffin. It had a lot of writing on it I couldn't understand.

I placed my hand on the coffin. "System, do your thing."
