Chapter 24 - Dance time

Guys I thought the UA sports festival was boring so this is what I thought of

Tell me if u like it

------------

The stadium roared with anticipation. Thousands of fans, reporters, and pros crowded the stands, cameras flashing like strobe lights as the Sports Festival kicked off. Spotlights circled above, creating arcs of color in the sky.

Jason Lax stood with the other students at the center of the arena, hands in his pockets, eyes half-lidded, his usual cocky smirk tugging at his lips.

"Quite the crowd," he muttered, glancing up at the massive screen displaying each student's name and face.

"Try not to pick a fight with the camera crew," Momo said beside him, visibly tense. Her hair was perfect, her posture even more so, but Jason could tell — her hands were clenched just a little too tightly.

He leaned in and whispered, "Relax, Princess. You're about to go viral — hope you practiced your dance moves."

She flushed. "W-What?"

Midnight's voice cut through the noise like a whip.

"Welcome, everyone, to the U.A. Sports Festival!" she shouted from the commentator platform, her grin wide. "This year, we're shaking things up. Round One? It's not a battle of strength, speed, or strategy — it's a solo dance battle tournament!"

The stadium exploded in confusion and cheers.

"Students will compete one-on-one in randomized brackets! Music will be chosen on the spot. And don't worry — we've got holographic visuals, smoke effects, and more. Our goal this year? Show that heroes can be fun, too."

Jason's grin widened. "Now this is my kind of fight."

Momo looked like she wanted to disappear. "They expect us to… dance? In front of everyone?"

Jason bumped her shoulder. "Better hope you don't get me first round, Yaoyorozu. I don't hold back on the dance floor."

"Y-You're enjoying this way too much."

"Absolutely."

The matchups began.

Students entered a holographic dance ring, which shifted environments depending on the song — neon streets, floating platforms, lava pits with disco floors. The music ranged from fast-paced electro to throwback pop to slow, dramatic ballads. Judges scored based on rhythm, creativity, and performance flair.

When Kaminari danced, he threw in electric sparks that lit up the stage. Mina stole the show with fluid moves and glow-in-the-dark slime. Even Bakugo, despite growling through the whole thing, earned grudging respect for rhythmically timed explosions.

And then came Jason.

Round 1: Jason Lax vs. Rikido Sato.

The music kicked in — a sharp, jazzy hip-hop beat with heavy drops. The arena transformed into a city rooftop under moonlight.

Jason stepped onto the floor like it was home turf.

He didn't just dance — he owned the space. Slick footwork, a sudden moonwalk that turned into a spin, fingers snapping to the beat. His movements were loose, confident, controlled chaos. His shirt fluttered slightly as he twirled mid-air, flipping into a smooth slide across a glowing panel. The crowd lost it.

Even Aizawa blinked in surprise.

Sato, good-hearted and strong, was out of his depth. He tried, bless him, but Jason's charisma and precision stole the round cleanly.

Jason bowed dramatically. "Thank you, thank you — I'll be here all week."

Momo watched from the waiting area, arms folded, lips pursed in a line. That same flushed expression. Not annoyance. Something else.

Jealousy? Embarrassment?

Or something warmer?

As more battles passed, tension built.

Momo finally stepped into the arena.

Her opponent: Toru Hagakure — the invisible girl, unpredictable and light on her feet.

The music started: a pop symphony with graceful violins and fast-paced drums.

Momo took a deep breath… and surprised everyone.

Her movements were elegant, composed — like ballet woven into modern rhythm. She summoned small objects for choreography — fans, ribbons, a glowing rod she twirled mid-spin. Hagakure's mischief made the duel fun, but Momo's performance was a shocker.

Jason whistled from the sidelines. "Damn. Princess has moves."

By the end of Round 1, half the class had advanced, and the crowd was fully invested.

As the sun began to dip toward the horizon and lights turned the stadium gold, Jason leaned against the wall, eyes flicking to Momo again.

"I didn't know you could dance like that," he said, voice low, teasing.

Momo didn't look at him, but her ears turned pink.

"You don't know a lot of things about me," she murmured.

Jason chuckled. "Guess I'll have to keep watching, then."
