Chapter 72 - Four Cosmos Arc Chapter 25: Triumphant Return

"Your Majesty, I've failed you," were Milo's final words to Lude X. Receiving them, Lude stood frozen before the screen, muttering, "It's over. All over." Jiteli was likely long crushed, and now Milo, the empire's last hope, was gone.

Lude regretted his arrogance. He'd thought Sky Dragon Empire, though formidable, had merely exploited Kamet Alliance's negligence. With decades of preparation and First Cosmos tech, he believed Wushite could dominate the Second Civilization. How wrong he was—not even the old Kanloteja Empire was this mighty.

"Your Majesty, flee! Sky Dragon's Black Dragon Legion is encircling us from behind!" a palace guard burst in, etiquette forgotten in the crisis.

Gazing at the grand palace, his home for sixty years, Lude shed tears for the first time. His dream of reviving the empire had brought extinction. Gods, why? he wailed inwardly. "Go, escape if you can. They've surrounded us—they knew we'd try to flee," he said, waving off the guards.

"Your Majesty, we can seek refuge with Kanga Empire! Survive this, and we'll return!" the guard captain pleaded.

Lude gave a desolate smile. "No use persuading me. Kanga won't take us. If we'd heeded their warnings, we wouldn't be here. They knew Sky Dragon's true strength—won't fight us for Sky Dragon, but won't help us either. If they would, they'd have come years ago, not left us waiting."

The guard captain, tasked with palace security, heard such secrets for the first time. No wonder Wushite's tech soared—Kanga's backing. Not a fool, he saw escape was futile, just delaying the inevitable. The other guards slumped, despairing.

"Your Majesty, we can hide on other planets! This system's vast, with billions—they'll never find us, especially with our people's support!" the captain suggested, a glimmer of hope.

Lude's eyes lit up, then dimmed. No troops left. "Protect the empress and princes. I'm old—my presence buys you time. Wushite's people are here; I won't abandon them. I'm their emperor. I'll die facing the enemy, standing tall," he declared boldly.

"Your Majesty!" The guards knelt, tears streaming. Their emperor had chosen death. With one last look, they left, escorting the empress and princes—Wushite's hope for revival. Lude closed his eyes in pain as battle sounds neared. Sky Dragon was at the palace. How long can the Palace Guard hold?

"Your Majesty, why are you still here?" the Palace Guard commander panicked. He'd ordered the guard captain to evacuate Lude while he held off Sky Dragon, making them think Lude was still here to buy time. Seeing Lude, he was frantic.

Touched by the commander's loyalty in this dire hour, Lude knew no reward could repay it. "I chose to stay," he said, soothing him.

"Commander, Sky Dragon's soldiers are monsters—unkillable! Their gear's flawless. Many brothers are dead," a soldier reported, rushing in.

The commander knew their strength—he'd been forced here, unable to fight back. So many lost already? Turning to Lude, he urged, "Your Majesty, it's too dangerous. Go!"

"No, it's too late," Lude said bitterly.

"Take His Majesty and run," the commander ordered the soldier, winking. The soldier nodded, saying, "Your Majesty, forgive me." Before Lude could react, the soldier knocked him out, slung him over his shoulder, and slipped out the back.

"Big Bro, we've stormed Wushite's palace. Hunting for that old fox Lude—dunno where he's hiding. Caught his wife and kids trying to flee," A-Wolf said excitedly to A-Long onscreen.

"A-Wolf, lock down Wushite Star. Dark Dragon Legion intel says Lude's hiding somewhere here. Have ground troops scour every corner—no stone unturned. Boss was clear," A-Long instructed. "Got it, Bro. Trust me," A-Wolf thumped his chest, cutting the comm. Turning to his officers, he barked, "All of you, lead search teams. Miss a spot, and it's court-martial. Clear?"

"Clear!" Sixty-plus colonels, brigadiers, and major generals rushed out.

Lude felt like he'd walked through hell, surrounded by darkness. Trying to lift his head, a sharp pain hit. "Ow!" he groaned.

"Your Majesty, you're awake!" Lude's hazy eyes opened to his empress and concubines sobbing around him.

Are we dead, meeting in hell? he thought sadly, sighing. "Death's a release." Aloud, he asked, "Are we in hell?"

"No, Your Majesty. Sky Dragon captured us," the empress sobbed.

"What?" Lude sat up. "Weren't you escaping?" Realizing Sky Dragon's prowess, he understood—they'd failed. Leaning weakly against the empress, he closed his eyes. His last hope was gone.

The day after Sky Dragon System's battle, I set out for Wushite Empire. Three days of relentless jumps brought me there. "Attention! Salute!" "Long live our Emperor!" A-Long, A-Wolf, and others awaited at the spaceport.

Mimicking Chairman Mao, I waved dashingly from the warship's stairs. "Comrades, you've worked hard!"

"For the people!"

"Comrades, well done!"

"Long live our Emperor!"

Grinning, I led Xue'er and the ladies down, shaking hands with legion commanders. "Boss, that pose was slick. How'd I miss it?" A-Wolf quipped.

"You'll get your chance. Next month's national parade—you're inspecting. How's that?" I asked A-Long. Stunned, A-Long envied A-Wolf's excitement.

"Your Majesty, I'll complete the task!" A-Long saluted, thrilled. "Good, prep after this," I said, patting his shoulder. "Yes!"

Over a hundred hovercars sped to Wushite's palace. Street scars showed the battle's ferocity. "Civilian casualties low?" I asked A-Long. Urban warfare made avoiding civilian deaths tough, only minimizing them.

"Not high. We contained them in the palace, swiftly eliminating other troops. Some escaped, but Wushite's civilians, with strong defense awareness, hid in shelters after alarms. Only about two thousand casualties."

Two thousand was minor for a twenty-billion city, but it was still bloodshed. If only none died. Too late. War's carnage was inevitable. Seeing my frown, A-Long added, "Your Majesty, we've compensated families of the dead. The injured got full medical coverage, plus compensation."

"Well done. Post-war, station your legion here. It'll keep neighboring nations quiet. I don't want more waves," I said.

Lude sat dejected in his lavish cell—his former chambers. Everything was the same, but Sky Dragon guards controlled access, limiting him to a small garden.

A commotion erupted outside. "Attention! Salute!" The empress and concubines tensed behind Lude. Sky Dragon had confined them here, asking nothing, no officers visiting. Today's sudden arrival—Are they here to kill us? Women's imaginations ran wild, faces pale, staring at the shut door.

"Everyone inside okay?" a pleasant male voice asked, young-sounding. Makino Wolf? Lude guessed, knowing A-Wolf's Black Dragon Legion stormed the palace.

The door creaked open, revealing dashing young senior officers. Bright light dazzled Lude's group. Seeing the handsome, resolute young man in a grand marshal's uniform, eyes gleaming, Lude's heart skipped. He'd never met him face-to-face, but both knew each other well. Lude hadn't expected his first visitor to be Sky Dragon's emperor, his archenemy—Makino Feitian.

They locked eyes. Adjusting to the dim room, I saw the white-haired old man at the table, a far cry from the bold warlord I'd imagined. He looked broken, defeated.

"Come to mock me?" Lude asked, breaking the silence.

"Why would you think that?" I replied coolly.

"What, a guest? Ha, my mistake—everything's yours now," Lude said, voice heavy with sorrow.

"I'm here to talk. Your remnant troops are resisting in pockets. I could crush them easily, but I don't want to kill them. I need you to convince them to surrender."

"Can't wipe them out, huh? Think I'll help?" Lude taunted, knowing the truth.

"You'll see reason." I sat at the table. "I dislike slaughter, but to prevent more losses, I'll destroy this planet if needed. Think I won't?" I stared into his eyes.

"You're threatening me!" Lude, despite his fall, retained an emperor's pride, slamming the table.

"I don't bother with crude threats. My rule: 'I don't start fights, but if you cross me, I kill.' I could erase Wushite, and no one would dare object—Sky Dragon didn't start this war," I said coldly. "I do what I say."

Their eyes clashed. Lude saw unyielding strength and ruthlessness in mine. He knew I meant it. Aging decades in a moment, he sighed, "Tell me what to do. I hope my last choice isn't wrong."

Sky Dragon's victory stunned hundreds of cosmic nations. Defeating a stronger foe so decisively, especially with the Space Fortress, sent shockwaves. Intel agents reported it, sparking uproar. A mobile fortress—what power!

Some nations had tried building them but failed due to energy system limits. Sky Dragon's fortress gave them hope—every nation craved such might.

"Feitian, Kamet Alliance wants to join Sky Dragon," Xue'er said, approaching.

"What? Kamet wants to join? We're not attacking them—why so nervous? Like we're war maniacs," I said, surprised.

"Heh, we haven't, but they're scared. They're practically surrounded by us. No thoughts? They're jittery," Xue'er teased.

I pulled her close, kissing her softly. "If they join, grant them autonomy, but no armies—that's non-negotiable. They can't ride our coattails with troops. Our empire's huge; more armies mean trouble. If they insist, better they form an alliance instead."

"We'll need to negotiate hard. Their 'autonomy' means keeping everything but diplomacy, like vassals paying fees," Xue'er explained.

"What kind of deal is that? Protection racket? No way. In war, we'd be cannon fodder. We don't need their pennies," I said, kissing her again. "Enough of that, wife. It's been a while. Tonight?"

"Sure!" Xue'er hugged me eagerly. When did my sweet Xue'er get so thirsty?

"Xue'er, I want to explore other cosmic regions. The universe is vast, with unknown civilizations. My power's hit a plateau—current training won't cut it," I said, holding her.

"Tian, take me with you!" she said, clinging.

"Dear, the empire needs you," I explained. "You think I'd leave you to handle it alone while I roam? Cruel, huh? You know what happens if you ditch us sisters. The empire's young, with tons to manage—you're key."

Ugh, so much to do. It hadn't hit me before. If I bolted, as Xue'er warned, the fallout would be dire. Guess I'll wait a few years.

"Fine, I'll pass the throne to our son in a few years," I said.

"You! Others crave the throne; you treat it like poison," Xue'er teased, rolling her eyes.

"All to stay with my beautiful Xue'er," I grinned.

"For me? I bet you're off to ogle cosmic beauties," she pouted. "Don't think I'm clueless. Heard you bedded dozens of Pandora women." How'd she know? "Speechless now, huh?" she smirked, victorious.

Poor Feitian—my promise cost me ten years. With Kamet Alliance and Wushite joining Sky Dragon, other nations, fearing for survival, followed, merging as autonomous regions into Little Milky Way System. Sky Dragon's domain spanned Milky Way, Sky Dragon, Pandora, Kamet, Little Milky Way, and newly developed uninhabited systems—six systems, billions of life-bearing planets, a population soaring to six trillion, a third of known cosmic civilizations, unmatched.

In ten years, Sky Dragon became the mightiest known empire. Its tech and economy soared, but its military was unrivaled: two billion warships, twenty billion soldiers, a thousand Space Fortresses, and a trillion reservists. Each legion had ten sub-legions, one million ships each. Ninety regular legions guarded the six systems.

"Wife, I'm bored," I sighed, sprawled on Little Kitten's body. "Tian-gege, I'm not. This is cozy—loving you daily," she said, beaming. Defeated. Her carefree joy was enviable. Stroking her tail, I asked, "Little Kitten, why didn't you visit the baby today?"

"Baby? He's almost ten!" she huffed, motherly pride emerging. Back in the day, huh? I didn't say it, gazing at her with loving eyes. (Chronicler's note: "Hypocrisy." Feitian: "Boss, meddling in our marriage? Write your masterpiece." Chronicler: "Masterpiece? Pirated to death. When'll I pay the empire's debt? Poor me.")

As cosmic nations mingled, space pirates surged. In Sky Dragon's uninhabited system, a common warship hid behind asteroids. No ordinary ship—its interior screamed Sky Dragon tech. The spacious command room felt like a luxury suite.

Its occupants were no commoners. Six or seven teens, sixteen or seventeen, stood inside.

"Second Sis, we just waiting? Will they show? Think of something!" Makino Feijing whined to the stunning girl in the command chair.

"You! I'm helping you. You begged Big Bro for this task, now you're stumped and asking me? Shameless," Makino Rushi, Feitian's second daughter, snapped, sipping tea.

"Sis, I saw everyone bored in the palace, thought we'd chill. Why else take this? We're victims! Big Bro botched it, so he dumped it on us. He's jealous—my genius is catching up!" Feijing griped.

"Genius? More like firewood," Rushi scoffed. "Sis, don't pile on Fifth Bro. He's a heartbroken man—pitiful," Makino Bingshui, eighth sibling, teased.

"Oh? Spill," Rushi asked, eyes gleaming.

Feijing paled, pleading, "Eighth Sis, don't! I'm begging!"

"Pfft, no big deal. Just got dumped," Bingshui said casually. "You thought he dragged us out for fun?"

"Ohhh," the siblings nodded, eyeing Feijing's red face. He wanted to melt into the hull.

"Eighth Sis, dish! Let's hear Fifth Bro's epic fail. Don't worry, Second Sis has your back," Makino Keyun teased.

Feijing glared. "Keyun, don't push it. I know your dirt—saw you with a guy in the park one morning."

Keyun shrugged. "Big deal. I'm a born beauty. That pup (A-Wolf's second son) chased me. I just said I'm not into him. No harm."

"Ha, that guy's a total perv. Chased me, saying he loves older women, some 'triple love' nonsense. Made me sound ancient. I beat him silly. Now he's after Keyun? What'd he say?" Bingshui asked, intrigued.

"The usual—pure, cute, one-of-a-kind. Duh, I'm the only Keyun. Guy's philosophy's trash," Keyun said, sparking laughter. That perv's an idiot.

"How'd you ditch him?" Bingshui pressed.

"Told him, 'Beat my dad, then I'll date you.' Done," Keyun said. "Haha, you're a riot, Keyun. Bet that pup's fuming. No chance in hell. Explains why he's been killing it in the school's training room—love's sting," Feijing laughed, forgetting his own heartbreak.

"Laughing, huh? You're no different. Spill, or Eighth Sis will," Keyun shot back, chaos following her. Feijing gasped, defeated. "Fine. Same excuse. She said, 'Beat your dad, then we'll talk.' Impossible. I said not now; she said if I can't even beat the old man, I'm useless."

Rushi and the others roared with laughter. "No helping it. Dad's the empire's top hunk—handsome, skilled, martial god, gentle. A woman's kryptonite. Half the girls at school call him their dream lover," Bingshui sighed.

"Sis, you crushing on Dad? That's incest!" Keyun gasped, pointing at Bingshui. "You brat! So what if I like him? You do too—Second, Third, Fourth Sis, all the sisters! Who's the one swooning at Dad's morning kisses?" Bingshui tickled her.

Rushi blushed at their shameless banter. Their morning kisses from Dad were sweet, but it was fatherly love, not romance. These two twisted it. "Enough! You're way off. Dad kisses Fifth Bro too—look at his bliss. In love with Dad? Ridiculous. Stop messing around—we've got work."

"I'll find a guy like Dad," Keyun declared firmly. Feijing shook his head. "Good thing not every girl's this nuts, or I'd be single forever."

"Second Sis, what's the plan?" Feijing asked.

"Plan? Be the bait. How else do pirates show? I checked—a cargo ship like ours passes the pirate zone in half an hour. We disguise as it, leave in ten," Rushi said, checking the route.

"Brilliant! Second Sis, you're unreal. Who's worthy of you?" Feijing flattered.

"Pfft. Love's fried your brain. Worry about yourself. I'm hitting ninth-tier power before marriage. My husband? Tenth-tier, minimum," Rushi teased.

Feijing gawked. "Sis, you know how old you'll be at ninth tier?"

"Hundred or so. Young," Rushi said breezily.

"Young? Even with Dad's training, we're barely here. Others take longer. Face it, you're doomed to spinsterhood."

"Spinster? Little Fifth, you're asking for it. Dad said ninth tier's near-infinite life. A hundred's nothing. I'm seventh tier—plenty of time."

"Second Sis, ten pirate ships incoming!" Bingshui reported. "Idiots, robbing us?"

"Which gang?" Rushi asked.

"Golden Skull. See the giant gold skull on their ships," Bingshui said, scanning.

"Prep up. When they close in, we storm their ships. Clear?" Rushi said to her siblings.

"Clear, Captain!" they laughed.

In space, ten Golden Skull ships surrounded a massive armed cargo vessel. After a firefight, the cargo ship downed two but ran dry. The eight remaining pirate ships closed in. "Hell yeah, they're out! Board 'em!" the pirate leader cheered.

"Move!" Rushi, in Dragon Armor, ordered. "One ship each. Go!"

Roar! Makino Feimu transformed into a winged dragon, tearing through space. Keyun and others followed, morphing. Screams erupted from the pirate ships: "Gods, what are these monsters?" These girls, no princess grace, Feijing sighed, shaking his head.

"Fifth Bro, you're lagging! I'm gone," Rushi said, teleporting. Her jumps weren't Feitian's billion-light-year leaps but handled ten thousand years fine—child's play for boarding.

The pirate leader, "Venom-Eye Skull," froze at the dragon-headed, human-bodied monster in his ship. Wasn't this a cargo haul? Why this nightmare? Out robbing with one squad, he'd hit the worst luck.

Sky Dragon royalty? As a veteran pirate, he'd heard tales. Sky Dragon's power kept him to their fringes, but he knew their dragon homeland and royal Hua Dragon Clan. Watching the unstoppable beast, Venom-Eye knew surrender was his only shot.

"We surrender!" Feijing, mid-rampage, scowled as a bearded man—likely the leader—raised his hands. Damn, I was testing my moves.

"Sis, their boss wants to surrender. Get over here," Feijing called. Venom-Eye saw space ripple, and a crystal-armored figure appeared—female, by the shape.

Rushi eyed Feijing. "Fifth Bro, stop being reckless. Wear your Dragon Armor. That form's ugly and risky—unknown weapons out there." "Got it, Big Sis. I'll be careful," Feijing said, chastised.

Rushi shed her armor, approaching Venom-Eye. Her stunning face made his heart race. So young. Her elite Dragon Armor marked her as Feitian's kin—only royals had such gear. "You're Venom-Eye Skull?" she asked, guessing. Golden Skull was a hundred-ship syndicate, but his presence in a small squad was odd.

"Yes. Are you Sky Dragon royalty?" Venom-Eye ventured.

"Yup. Why?" Feijing, back to normal, stepped behind Rushi.

"Just checking. Losing to royalty's respectable. I'm a cosmic name—caught by nobodies, I'd lose face," Venom-Eye said proudly.

Feijing and Rushi stifled laughs. Not worried about dying, but status? "You think you'll walk free? You're done," Feijing said.

"What? Sky Dragon abolished the death penalty!" Venom-Eye gasped.

"Sure, but exceptions apply. Mass murderers qualify. You fit. Don't worry—I'll ensure it's painless," Feijing said lightly. Venom-Eye paled, seeing the angelic teens as merciless demons in disguise.

"I never killed! Well, rarely. We're modern pirates—rob wealth and women, not lives," Venom-Eye pleaded.

They chuckled. He thinks piracy's noble?
