Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Last Sketch

She died watching. But she left behind the one thing Concord couldn't erase — a list made of lines and silence. And now Rook's holding the pen.

Scene: Safehouse 6 – War Room

The sketchbook lay open on the cold table.

Callum's final page wasn't just art.

It was a map.

Lines weren't decorative — they were location threads, tracing the movement patterns of known resistance routes, base caches, and encrypted corridors used only by high-level operatives.

Each line intersected three specific points.

And each was labeled not in names, but in color-coded insignia glyphs.

"Gemini. Pisces. Virgo," Aya whispered.

Rook didn't respond.

He flipped the page.

And there it was:

A simple, soft line drawing of a face.

Blank eyes. Generic haircut. Neutral expression.

A Zodiac mole profile — hidden inside their own ranks.

And under the sketch:

"One of them already ran."

"The other two don't know I saw them lie."

Scene: Gemini's Disappearance Confirmed

Aya checked the access logs.

"Gemini triggered an auto-wipe and fake casualty file from three days ago. It was good. Deep archive deletion."

"Where is she now?" Rook asked.

"Off-planet manifest pinged," Aya said. "Fyrkan embassy vessel."

He didn't blink.

"She ran. Let her rot."

Then he tapped the table.

"Focus on the others."

Scene: Pisces — Codename: Auron Vale

Not family.

Just a name he borrowed.

Operative placed three years ago as a data technician in the Resistance's internal communications team.

No powers.

Just access.

Scene: Covert Strike Operation – Rook, Aya, Two Operatives

They arrived silent.

Abandoned broadcast tower in Sector 2. Pisces had converted it into a private relay hub.

He was in the middle of a transmission when the team breached.

He turned.

Smiled.

"Took you longer than I expected."

Rook didn't draw his blade.

Just asked:

"Who were you calling?"

Pisces laughed. "Does it matter? Protocol's already in play."

Aya stepped forward. "We traced a kill-order signal from this station twenty minutes before Callum's death."

Pisces raised a brow. "She wasn't even tagged as critical."

"She drew you," Rook said. "That was enough."

Pisces shrugged.

"History is dangerous."

"So am I," Rook replied.

One clean shot.No scream.Just silence.

And the sketchbook closed.

Scene: Virgo — Codename: Sienna Holt

Cadet.

Popular. Magnetic. Used her training to organize underground med-supply runs.

One of the most trusted field leads in the resistance.

And now?

Marked as Zodiac.

Scene: Rook's Choice

Tessa stood beside him.

"You're not going to kill her."

"No."

"She doesn't even know she was programmed?"

"No," Rook said again.

"So what will you do?"

Rook looked up.

And for once, his voice wasn't cold.

"I'm going to let her feel the truth."

Final Scene: Sienna's Room — Intercepted Transmission

Sienna entered her quarters.

Her comm blinked.

Private message.

Audio file.

She tapped play.

Callum's voice filled the room.

"You always smiled when you lied. But not at me.I saw your eyes twitch when you handed me that access badge.I didn't say anything. I hoped I was wrong. But you handed me the bullet that killed me."

"So now I'm handing it back."

Sienna dropped the comm.

Stumbled back.

And found Rook sitting in her chair.

Quiet.

Watching.

She didn't scream.

He didn't move.

"You're not here to kill me," she said.

"No."

"Then why?"

Rook stood.

Walked to the door.

"Because I want you to explain it to the people who trusted you."

He paused.

"And then I want to see if they forgive you."

He left.

The door closed behind him.

And Sienna?

She sat in the dark, shaking.
