Jiang Yue gave off a burst of uneasy laughter.
"Ahahaha, my grandmother is so beautiful. How can I think of you as an ogre?"
At the same time, he grabbed behind him and pulled Luo Xianxian out in the open.
"Xianxian, what are you hiding for? Say hello to your great-grandmother!"
Luo Xianxian gaped at this uncle of hers in disbelief.
Who was it who said that he would protect her at all costs? Why was Jiang Yue putting her up as a shield now? The little girl was wronged beyond compare.
But Grandma Jiang's eyes softened when she took in Luo Xianxian's appearance from head to toe.
The little girl was only five years old, but she unmistakably inherited her mother's beauty. The pair of big and round eyes that looked back at Grandma Jiang was bright and clear, hinting at a profound level of intelligence.
She had slender arms and slender legs, which stood out even more because she was wearing a sleeveless summer dress that reached only to her knees.
This girl was going to be tall when she grew up, so Grandma Jiang mused.
Luo Xianxian was a perceptive child. She could sense whether a stranger liked or disliked her upon prolonged eye contact.
And although Grandma Jiang appeared stern, she seemed like a very nice person!
After getting a subtle head nod from Fang Ruoye, Luo Xianxian abandoned her hesitation and approached Grandma Jiang.
"Great-grandmother," she called out with a soft, childish voice.
Grandma Jiang broke into a smile and gathered the little girl into her arms.
"En, good child. I am going to take good care of you, just like I took care of your mother when she was a child."
Luo Xianxian snuggled against Grandma Jiang and put her tiny arms around the latter's wrinkled neck.
Grandma Jiang smiled happily.
"I can't believe that I get to hold my great-granddaughter at this old age," she sighed. "Heaven has truly been nice to this old woman."
For once, the ladies stayed inside the villa while the men busied themselves outside, cooking up amazing meal for lunch.
Sitting in the warm solarium, Luo Xianxian became drowsy and soon fell asleep on her mother's lap.
Grandma Jiang and Fang Ruoye continued catching up in a low voice.
"My cousins helped to enroll Xianxian in the Golden Dragon Academy. The new year will start in a week."
"We are currently staying with Brother Wei. I still want to get a job, but I haven't discovered what I want to do in the future."
Grandma Jiang listened attentively for some time before she spoke up, "You used to work at Phoenix Trading International before you got married. Why not return there? Since your eldest cousin is the CEO, no one will dare to make things difficult for you."
Fang Ruoye shook her head.
"Yes, but acting on nepotism will only portray Brother Wei in a poor light."
"I don't want you to get bullied anymore, Ruoye. I insist that you work at Phoenix Trading International," Grandma Jiang decided. "There are so many positions in so many departments in so many companies within the group. Even if Ah-Wei cannot find a fitting position for you, he can create one. Don't you worry about it."
Once Grandma Jiang spoke up, no one could change her mind.
True to her words, she then talked to the brothers when Fang Ruoye was playing with Luo Xianxian in the garden.
"Give Ruoye a job at Phoenix Trading International," the grandmother said, and Jiang Wei complied on the spot.
"Good job at enrolling Xianxian to Golden Dragon Academy. It has always pained me that Ruoye had to go to public schools when she was a child. Her parents were really too stubborn."
Jiang Cheng leaned closer to his grandmother and smiled.
"It is good that Ruoye and Xianxian return to the Jiang family. From now on, we will take a very good care of her."
"Yes..."
A strange light flickered across Grandma Jiang's pupils.
"Say, Ruoye has just gone through a divorce. Would she be open to new relationships?"
This question made all three brothers' faces darken at the same time.
Jiang Wei, "Grandmother, Ruoye is clearly not ready."
Jiang Yue, "Grandmother, there is no man in this world who deserves Ruoye."
Jiang Cheng, "Grandmother, what if she ends up with another scum? I am sorry to say this, but she is not ruthless enough to toss away the bad seeds."
Grandma Jiang clicked with her tongue and squinted at her three grandsons.
"What are you talking about? Of course, I will be the one to pick a man for my beloved granddaughter! Or do you not trust in my judgment either?"
The three brothers tumbled over each other to reply.
Jiang Wei, "Of course we trust your judgment, Grandma!"
Jiang Yue, "If that man earns Grandma's seal of approval, he must be the only one for Ruoye!"
Jiang Cheng, "Grandma's eyes are as keen as an eagle's. You can see through good and evil with one look."
Grandma Jiang curled her lips into a self-sufficient smile.
"I am glad that you all agree. Now, I am thinking of matchmaking her with my personal physician."
The three Jiang brothers didn't catch on at first, but when a certain name floated to their minds, they all wrinkled their faces in apparent dislike.
"Bai Liuxian...???" They cried out in unison.
"Yes, Dr. Bai," Grandma Jiang sighed dreamily. "So handsome and so charming and yet so alone. He needs a good woman by his side."
At once, the three brothers backpedaled on their words just now and launched into a protest.
Jiang Wei, "Grandma, Bai Liuxian has a weird personality. No one can understand him."
Jiang Yue, "Grandma, Bai Liuxian's tongue is as sharp as the scalpel he uses during surgery. Ruoye will hate him."
Jiang Cheng, "Grandma, Bai Liuxian has just come out of a messy divorce, and he has to focus his attention on his son. He won't have the time and energy to properly take care of Ruoye and Xianxian!"
Their arguments made sense, so Grandma Jiang wasn't able to dismiss them entirely.
"What a pity, though," she said with a disappointed sigh. "A handsome man and a beautiful woman. They would make a beautiful couple, just like one you often see in paintings."
