"You told me they weren't mine," he whispered.

"I lied," she admitted. "Because I was scared. I wanted to protect them. I thought if you knew, you'd take them away. And I also thought you wouldn't want them because you are married now."

"Five years," he murmured, his voice barely audible. "I had children... and never knew." He clenched his jaw, struggling to process everything. 

"They are your children," she said softly. "And now your daughter needs you."

The twins sat on their bed, the ticking sound of the wall clock reverberating in the room as both were in their own world. Before Jasmine, who was twisting her doll's hair, released a long sigh and her brow furrowed, "Mom is in it again," she muttered dejectedly, pausing what she was doing, staring at her twin brother.


Hanith's hands stilled, his nose scrunched while nodding in agreement. Even though their mom thought they couldn't see it, they could see the sadness in her eyes.


Their mom sighed every time, looking blank while staring at the wall without knowing, even smiling at their conversation when it wasn't necessary. She wasn't like that before—something must have happened.
