Chapter 19 - WARM HANDS PART 19

August had fallen like a golden blanket over the hills of Keswick. The sun painted the sky a spotless blue almost every morning, and the wind only blew merrily through the trees. The town was colourfully decorated as if to celebrate the beautiful weather.Flower streamers were hung in the windows of the houses, and a large wooden stage was set up in the centre of the square.Keswick's annual summer festival had arrived.

It was held every year in August and people celebrated the arrival of summer, relaxed, shopped and spent some time walking around the town.

Levi and Jun packed up their work at the clinic early in the morning and walked together to the square.Jun had a basket in her hand, Levi had helped her bake a cake, she was taking it to the festival as a contribution.

The square was bustling, children were lined up cheerfully at the face-painting table, old people were singing old folk songs in one corner, fruit baskets, freshly squeezed lemonade, homemade jams were on the stalls.

One of the stalls was selling flower crowns, Levi bought one and placed it on Jun's head:

-'It suits you,' said Levi.

-'I'm not a child anymore, doctor,' Jun grumbled, but the crown was still on his head.

Later in the day there was dancing on the stage, folk dances were performed, the audience clapped their hands, and Jun and Levi were dancing to the rhythm and having fun together. Both were happy as if they had forgotten what they had experienced in Norbury.

After a while, Levi was approached by the pharmacist woman who was well known in the town. She had long, auburn hair and a cheerful laugh. She first asked Levi something about the prescription she was holding in her hand, then the subject changed quickly. The woman put her hand on Levi's arm and was telling him something. And Levi was smiling politely and nodding his head in agreement with what she was saying.

Jun was watching them with his hands in his pockets, the noise of the crowd receded for a moment, he didn't seem to hear anything anymore, only that scene was in his eyes, Levi talking to that woman, Levi smiling at someone else, standing so close to someone else.

Jun suddenly approached them and quickly turned towards Levi:

-'Levi, let's have lemonade. You said you were thirsty' Jun said.

Levi looked surprised:

-'Oh, sure... let's drink'. Levi nodded to her and he and Jun walked towards the lemonade stall.

There was silence as they both sat on a bench with glasses of lemonade in their hands.

-'Suddenly, you wanted lemonade?' said Levi.

-'Yes,' said Jun. He was nervous.

-'Are you jealous?' Levi said with a smile.

There was no one around and the music was blending the voices together so it was okay to talk a little freely.

Jun turned angrily towards Levi:

-'Yes' Jun said 'You were so close and he was touching you'

Levi blushed at this confession, even though he had heard many words of affection from Jun, he couldn't get used to it.

He wanted to kiss Jun right now, but they were on the street, so he could only smile.

When they got home, Jun was still not completely calm inside. She trusted Levi, but she couldn't help being jealous. The way that woman touched Levi, the way she smiled, the way she tried to be friendly....

The next day Jun woke up early, dressed more carefully than usual, fixed her hair, chose her shirt carefully.

It was business as usual at the clinic.Levi had brought in a patient, Jun was organising the records. At that moment there was a knock at the door.Jun looked up... he felt his heart beating nervously. It was that woman.

The same woman. The same woman who had touched Levi's arm last night at the fete, the same woman who had laughed. She was wearing an elegant skirt, her shoulder-length hair pulled back with a clip. She was holding a small piece of paper - probably a prescription.

The woman smiled with a smile in her eyes:

-'Good morning! Is Levi here?' she said directly to Jun.

Jun frowned slightly but tried to be polite.

-'He's here, come in' he said and invited her in, but he had other thoughts: 'Not you again!'

Levi left the room after examining his patient and smiled when he came out of the room and saw the woman;

-'Ah, Emma! What a surprise.' said Levi.

Emma, yes, that was her name. Jun never liked that name.

Emma took a step closer and put her hand on Levi's arm:

-'I had a few more questions about the cream I mentioned yesterday and I was going to ask for a prescription, but I'm actually here to see you' she said.

Jun's pupils dilated.'What? See you?' she thought.

Levi answered her with a smile:

-'You're such a joker.

He hadn't noticed Jun's gaze at that moment.

Emma was handing the prescription to Levi and asking him a few questions when Jun rushed over to Levi, handing him the files:

-'I need you to sign these, now'. His tone was strangely serious.

Levi was surprised, he took the files. Emma, meanwhile:

-'Oh my God, what a sweet boy, Levi. But is he always this serious?

Jun answered through his teeth:

-'Serious is good'

Levi was aware of the situation, he raised his eyebrows and looked at Jun, while Emma finished her questions and said her goodbyes and left the clinic.

Jun went back to work without saying anything and Levi was quite happy to be envied.

An hour before the clinic closed, all the patients were finished, Jun was tidying up and Levi went to the clinic's cellar.

It was a small storage room behind the examination rooms and the entrance to the clinic. In one corner of the room there were boxes of paper stacked on top of each other, some of them open, containing prescription papers, cotton rolls, alcohol bottles and bandages. The room was empty except for a small table and chair.

Levi had come here to look at the number of supplies. Meanwhile, footsteps were approaching behind him.

Jun...

Jun appeared right behind Levi and turned him towards him.

When Levi looked at Jun, he could see the fire in her eyes, but they were at the clinic.

-'What happened?' Levi said.

-'That woman, she likes you. And I don't like it,' Jun said.

-'No, Jun, she's just too friendly, that's all,' said Levi.

-'She said she came to see you openly, doctor.' said Jun.

-'My patients come to see me too,' said Levi.

-'I don't like him,' Jun said. And he hugged Levi tighter.

Then he opened the distance between them a little and started kissing Levi. After the day they celebrated Jun's birthday, kissing had become a passion for them, they both enjoyed it.

Levi was lost in the kiss but remembered they were at the clinic.

She pulled away from Jun with difficulty and spoke breathlessly:

'We're at the clinic, the patient may come, Jun'

-'I locked the door and the curtains are closed,' Jun said.

-'You little fox, h...' Jun was already kissing Jun's lips before Levi had even finished.

After a while they both breathed away.

-'Besides, I'm not a child,' Jun said.

-'What?'said Levi with a chuckle.

-'That woman called me a child,' Jun said.

Levi moved closer to his lover and said:

-'Of course you're not, a child can't kiss me that good'.

It was a treasure for Jun to hear those words from Levi. It was hard to describe the feelings inside her. He could only lean closer to Levi and say:

-'Let's go home, doctor'.
