Chapter 5 - Lets Begin Part 2

I looked down at the chokutō. "All great swords have a name, Sir," I was talking to the blacksmith. He frowned. "I don't believe my grandpa had given it one." I hooked the sword to my side. "Then you give it one." He walked to the front of the shop, where there was a fine layer of dust still.

The blacksmith sat down. "You know, I've been looking to get rid of that sword for... well, since I started." He smiled while looking down. "Well, Mr. Mercer, I believe its name will be Yoruha." I nodded, quite a fitting name for it. "I will be back soon, Mr...?" He smiled and swept some of the dust off of the front display area. "I'm Sevrik Vall, and if you do come back soon, that means I've failed as a blacksmith."

I pushed the wooden door open and stepped onto the dirt path and walked home slowly so I could tell what all had changed since I hadn't really seen our village and how it had evolved into a large town, and to know my grandparents founded this place.

I stood in front of a statue of myself, but not the current me. Its silver eyes looked forward eternally while it stood tall, and I stood way beneath it, just like I was way beneath where I was in my last life.

I knew I wasn't far from Selene's mansion from here.

I need some sort of boost, maybe from my spirit? No, it won't even talk to me. Maybe I can get another one. As my strength stands, I'm too weak to attract anything worthwhile.

The floor creaked under me. "I'm home," I announced to no one in particular. I heard some talking in the kitchen area, so I walked there. "So where have you been for the last three days?" Nyrene said; she was actively cutting some fruits, and honestly, I don't think I've ever been more scared of someone weaker. "Well, you know I was training in the mountains," I scratched the back of my head. "You know, because I want to go to the academy."

She sighed. "Well, at least tell someone where you're going." I sat down. "I was in a rush." Selene set down some bags of food; she had just gotten home. "I see you're finally back." Nyrene looked at Selene. "Does he do this often?" She shrugged. "We will see, I suppose."

Man, I came in here to get food, not to get lectured about my training habits. "What can I eat that's here?" Selene walked over to a pot they had on the stove and opened it. "You're about two hours too early." I nodded. "I'll just go get a shower. I don't suppose I smell good." They both chuckled.

I entered the bathroom and looked at my system:

[Name: Leon Mercer]

[Speed: 2+]

[Strength: 11+]

[Intelligence: 8+]

[Skills: None]

Nothing new; the mission hadn't changed, and the daily mission was still the same.

The water felt nice, and I noticed how long my hair was, so I began to cut it. Black strands covered the floor, ten years of no cuts all finally being removed.

In the end, I still left it a little messy since I'm not doing my hair.

The Next Day

I woke up early to begin my daily mission. There was fog in the air, and the sun wasn't yet visible to me.

The run was what took the longest.

I was no longer the scrawny prodigy who already had their spirit; I was now the prodigy who could easily outpace any spirit user.

The fog was still around once the sun rose. Unusual; very few people were out this early, and most of them were guards, drunks, or people who couldn't sleep at all.

I needed to see what was up with this sword soon.

"Ping" [Daily quest completed + 1 attribute point]

I instantly put it into strength. I should start to try to balance my attributes soon.

There was a whistling coming from behind me, human definitely. I turned around, and a man who wore a white mask that had no holes was walking up to me. He held two daggers, one in each hand.

The dirt flung up as he dashed toward me. I grabbed his left arm and blocked his right with my right. "Who are you?" He kicked my stomach and launched himself backwards.

"Okay then, let's begin." I cracked my knuckles and grabbed the handle of my sword.
