Chapter 26 - Morning brings trials

KiRA's uncle and Aunt, along with Isah's parents said their goodbyes to the children as well as the adults who were going for the Player registrations today.

The four of them were not going to take part in the rounds that were being held today. They still needed to look out for people here so they did not have any need to go inside the tower.

What they needed to do right now was guarding this place and helping the children, the elders, and those who come here for refuge.

The government had already caught wind of their operations so they needed to stay as low as possible or else they would have to surrender everything they had to them, or dance on the palms of their hands.

The elders did not want that.

The Captain, Isah's father, got in contact with his military connections and was bringing in supplies for their people.

With the help of Mr. Argon, KiRA's uncle, the surroundings were being taken care of. No monster was caught in sight anywhere around the neighborhood, making it a safe haven for those who had lost their people and home.

Lady Lia took care of the technical stuff in their bunkers. With the help of KiRA's various artifact gifts and tools, they were able to make the bunkers much better.

There was also enough food and water for all the people and many more.

With the help of KiRA's aunt's expertise with Code, AI, and software, they had also solidified the connections and successfully turned the entire neighborhood into a fortress that not even the government could mess with.

Even if they could not take in a lot of people, they were acting as a secure temporary base with all the residents helping those coming from outside and those found by their petrol squads.

"Good thing the RV wasn't destroyed in the monster attack."

"One of them is still not enough for all these people."

"No worries. We have enough wheels."

KiRA and Zyon were going with the players from their neighborhood. They moved in vehicles even though there were still monsters present around the city.

They knew it could be dangerous but the roads that were overseen by A2P2 for today's event were being guarded thoroughly.

KiRA and the group moved without hesitation, bringing with them the vehicles, the attached parts behind the vehicles for more space, even hoverboards if they had it available.

They did not have mounted beasts, they did not have any tamed beasts to ride yet, so they moved in a modern manner with some makeshifts.

And ultimately, they were able to reach their destination in a few minutes.

"The city's a mess alright?"

"Did you see that big crater on 5th street? Don't you think it's from some elite monster??"

"It must have been a field boss. Surprise, they took it down."

When the three of them stepped out of the vehicle, they were greeted with a sight that seemed pretty familiar to them.

"There's quite a few of them. I wonder how the government's planning to test them."

"On what basis will they judge one anyway?"

No one really knew how the government would judge the player's levels and actual powers to rank them accordingly.

This was the first trial that was taking place so they would only know about it after experiencing it directly.

"I think they will consider testing one's stats and skills. The more powerful stats and the different kinds of skills that they have, the higher rank they will be. Since players grow constantly, they can just reassess the levels of the individuals periodically." KiRA was the webnovel nerd among them.

He knew how the government authorities measured the levels of those with an awakened power. If they couldn't base the ranks off of their energy or potential, they would definitely test each person for their skill and stats.

"Or they might just give out a licence to everyone after confirming their player status." It was a possibility as well, so Zyon wasn't wrong either.

They could also have their own methods to check someone's player status so they did not know what exactly was going to happen to them.

"Hey, how did you get here?"

"I got a ride from the military people that were coming here, hehe. I just told them I can heal them and they let me come with them."

"I got here with a bunch of people. Took a while to walk though."

"Hey! Hey! Sis! I saw something amazing on my way here!"

"Kekeke, once I get inside the tower, I'm gonna be rich."

"There are people buying the stuff from the tower at a high price? Really?"

"IX is the norm now, dude. Cash doesn't mean much. Only the banks are dealing with cash right now. Even the stocks and bond prices are fluctuating."

"Crypto is dead bro, dead! Do you know how much money I lost!?"

There were hundreds of people gathered in a wide open area. There were government officials wearing items and carrying weapons that could kill even the players with ease all around them.

All of them were being monitored by the people that had organised this campaign. Since this was the first player registration round of the city, there were a bunch of people from big companies gathered outside of the waiting area.

There were people in suites inside the building they were standing before as well, some of them were even wearing special badges that indicated their affiliation with A2P2.

'I see some good stuff around…'

KiRA was delighted to see all these people in the same place.

He looked through each one of their status windows for anything useful that he could have. He failed to get Zyon's skill thanks to the effects of the curses over the week and with his nearly depleted funds, he didn't have any money to spend.

'That crow's not here either…'

He didn't know when he'd see that white crow but until they met, he needed more coins to use his Authority well.

'Oh, it seems like they're starting.'

There wasn't a particular skill that he wanted right now but some skills definitely caught his eyes.

If things went well, he was hoping he could get at least two of the skills he was eyeing right now…
