Chapter 17 - Purple Inferno.

"Shit! Shit! Shit! It's going right toward me! HELP!" Edward screamed, running for his life while holding his pistol with both hands. His eyes were distressed, mainly because of him not being aware of how horrifying it is to look at an Iya up close in person. The nearby buildings are already destroyed, some had a large claw mark, the road had even more claw markings. There were also some spots of the road engulfed in this light purple colored flame.

"Ah, that's a bummer.." Sendo scratched his chin, his odachi rested on his shoulder, he peered through his surroundings, mainly looking at the purple flames. He scratched his head in uncertainty, "This will ought to catch the attention of those bastards.. Eh fuck it.." he shrugged.

Edward mustered up his courage to make a sharp turn, and stood still to fire his pistol.

BANG!

BANG!

Edward slowly tilted his head up, witnessing the Iya vault itself into the air, with one of its grotesque scaly arms raised up, the large claw gleaming in the moonlight. "I'm dead aren't I…?" He panicked as he closed his eyes.

He heard a massive CLANG! in front of him, and saw Sendo blocking the blow completely, he could observe that it wasn't effortless, as Sendo's arms were shaking ever so slightly. "Well ain't you one tough beast" He sneered.

Edward also saw another figure, Ludwig creep through, and his sword being carved up like a crescent moon's arc, slicing what he assumed to be the forearm off.

"Hey! I had it! I was jus' showin' off my strength!"

Ludwig gave Sendo a dismissive nod, his eyes were serious, almost too menacing, perhaps now he understood why Satoya is intimidated by him. But he saw him back step effortlessly weaving away from another assault from the iya. The Iya's other arm had smaller claws, but it had more scales on its arms. Moreover, the sheer force of the dodged attack left a gust of sharp wind that left another claw mark onto the building behind Ludwig.

"Woulda prefered if I hadn't missed my merit.. Eh whatever, let's jus' get it over with." Sendo smiled impatiently, with the press of a switch on his odachi's hilt, his blade was immediately engulfed in the light purple flames, there were also sparks of dark purple electricity. This gave Edward the conclusion that Sendo must be using a newer design of merit revelators, and he was also in surprise that the merit Sendo had is plasma, a considerably rare merit that one can have, the most common ones he often saw from the internet and news were the more simpler elemental ones, like fire, water, wind. Earth merits are not possible due to the impossibility of someone's consciousness extracting into the physical form of rocks and dirt, but contradictory, sand merits exist, so he didn't understand why Earth merits itself don't exist. Maybe a design of that is in the making?

Ludwig upon seeing the plasma covered blade, shot Sendo with a glare of annoyance. He exhaled loudly in disappointment and annoyance. "Don't catch unwanted attention…"

"Alrighty! Let's get to it!" He called out, he grinned deviously, he held his odachi's hilt with both hands, and before he swung, the inferno of plasma died out, only blasting a small arc of weak plasma. There was a dramatic silence, a deafening silence.

The Iya shrieked in hostility, and proceeded to smash the ground. Rayna, who was the closest to the Iya when it smashed the ground, fell forward, but quickly got up and scolded, "YOU IDIOT! WHAT WAS THAT?"

"Ahem… Seems like my fuel depleted faster than I thought.. It sur' is hard to aim this model.." Sendo made an awkward laugh, but he glanced over at Ludwig with a sly expression.

Ludwig grunted, holding his hand near his chest, his palm facing outwards. Isaac was next to him, his fists up in guard, figuring out the most impactful place to punch.. He doesn't really care if a punch is useless, and he's mainly running off of pure pride. Within his peripheral vision, he saw an ethereal cloud of stars, and looked up to see Ludwig's hand raining down those very celestial lights.

"C'mon, go show off ya Verity Mr Truth Seeker-who-is-also-conveniently-training-under-an-elite-rank." Sendo sat down, carefully sheathing his odachi.

The Iya raised its remaining arm up into the air once again, the suspended claw daunting the Satoya gang aside from Isaac, and well of course, Satoya and Shizune. The clawed hand struck down, its beastly strength scratching the air as it plummeted upon Ludwig.

However, Ludwig clenched his hand as if he was gripping that very opalescent mist, and he swiped up, opening a grand rift, a large starlit gate. As he had opened it, another starlit gate tore through the air behind the Iya, through the gate behind the Iya, the Iya's own claws descended into its own back, slicing itself into 3 vertically, it's blood splattering all over the road, narrowly missing everyone who was there.

"Well, yup! Fuckin' show off!" Sendo saltily commented, raising his sheathed odachi in the air. Sendo placed his odachi on his lap, and rested his chin on his hand, mumbling bitterly, "ya see, i would've made a flashier finish if I had the fuel to activate my merit."

"Oh yeah right? You missed like 4 times!" Isaac laughed. The others aside from Ludwig was giving Isaac a nasty stare, everyone else was being as respectful as they could–aside from Rayna scolding Sendo when he failed to fire a slash of plasma—Isaac was completely dismissing the fact that Sendo was a far more powerful, and influential person due to his Semi elite rank status.

With the dilemma of the Iya being taken care of, the location of where Shizune and Satoya were at remained the same. Shizune herself was quite literally walking around in a circle, still holding her badly damaged crowbar—which Satoya still doesn't understand how she can lift it and swing it like a bat—Satoya was indeed still in tremendous pain. The moon was ascending slowly, and Satoya's phone was lost after he got caught up in the heat ignition that came out of Zykar's prosthetic, but he assumed the time to be around 10:30 pm-ish. He is also surprised how electricity still works, signified by the single light pole that is lit, although it occasionally makes a buzzing sound and minor sparks sparkling into the air.

"Oh, weren't expecting you to be here of all places." An upbeat voice spoke, catching the attention of the both of them. Shizune felt uneasy, held her crowbar with her two hands, trying to defend herself. But out of the shadows of the night, Rin walked into the light, his smile was as Satoya remembered, easy-going and well, somewhat alien. There was a wrapped spear, emitting a presence so uncomfortable it was like needles slowly but surely piercing through his skin.

Shizune lowered her guard, "Huh? You're that guy!" Rin turned his head to acknowledge her, and gave her a light smile. "Surprised how Ludwig decided to put you in charge of protecting Satoya, but I can't argue with someone who chose a crowbar over anything else."

Rin took an innocent step forward, but something rather unnatural occured, the light pole that Shizune and Rin was standing under started to reverse back to its original condition, the light emitting from the pole becoming brighter. Satoya also discovered Shizune's damaged crowbar, which he previously observed to have the top tip bent in odd ways—presumably from the same heat ignition Satoya suffered headfirst from.

What is he, some kind of God? Probably one of those Verity things.. Satoya thought in utter confusion, the lord of sarcasm was awestruck, and well, of course too much in pain to think of anything snarky about the situation. But, like in his fashion, he asked a question, something he was curious about, which was probably going to be something genuine or sarcastically toned.

"What are you here for? Is this an episode of some Maehwan drama?"

In response, Rin walked closer, standing on the edge of the light of the light pole. The life around him progressively rejuvenated, and Satoya felt his own condition improving by the second, the aching pain in his body stagnating. Satoya took a closer inspection on his arms, and found the former burns, scratches and bruises to be perfectly reversed.

Satoya looked up back at Rin, he noticed a curious smile on his face. He isn't the best at reading expressions, considering he never looked anyone in the face and often just zoned out mid conversation but somehow listening to a certain degree, the only times he does look someone in the eyes is when he is stressed or frightened by the individual directly.

"Every Truth Seeker's Elusive Solace asks the truth seeker a simple question, a question that isn't meant to be answered, but instead, requests the truth seeker to find their truth, their answer to that question.." He held out his hand, his wrapped spear stabbed into the ground, making the plants around it grow exponentially faster. He emitted a polite, such calm manner that Satoya's own heart beat slower.

"So I'd like to know, what is the current truth you have conceived from that question?"
