Chapter 189: 5☆ Wanted
Hayato suddenly snatching all the Cards on sale caught not only Yugi and the others off guard, but even the Merchant boss was slightly stunned. By the time he reacted to being robbed, a sharp cry came from his burly frame: "Catch the thief! Someone's robbing!"
Immediately after, under the terrified gazes of the three, the surrounding Merchants all left their respective stalls, waving knives, guns, swords, halberds, axes, hooks, forks, clubs, and meteor hammers, chasing after the Direction Hayato fled.
Hayato, being chased, saw these things but wasn't scared at all. Instead, he excitedly pulled a Card from his wrist and held it high above his head: "Gaia the Fierce Knight! Stop them for me!"
Dark Knight Gaia, appearing out of thin air, raised the Lance in its hand and charged towards the pursuing crowd without hesitation, driving its War Horse. A cavalryman in heavy armor charging with a heavy Lance against infantry with no armor on their hands resulted in a one-sided Battle. Dark Knight Gaia effortlessly broke through the Merchants chasing Hayato with its strength alone.
By the time the Merchants regrouped and chased again, they found that Dark Knight Gaia had already Dispersed, and Hayato had long since vanished.
Having lost their Aggro Goal, the Merchants seemed to have lost their memory and returned to their original stalls, continuing to repeat the Lines they had said countless times before.
Yugi and the others breathed a sigh of relief.
"That scared me to death, I thought we were going to get Attacked too," Joey Wheeler patted his chest. "Speaking of which, why did they only chase Hayato and not us?"
Keipei thought for a moment: "Probably because in this game, there's no Team Up function?"
As the Vice President of KaibaCorp, Keipei had naturally seen the Project plan for the Duel Monsters game during its development stage. In this game, Players don't have a Team Up function, and there are no limitations on Attack or Healing. Players can backstab teammates they just fought a Monster with, and similarly, they can Heal a Monster just to torment it.
Likewise, Monster Drops go to whoever picks them up; there's no sharing function. In other Online Games, one person drawing a Monster's Aggro would create a Chain, affecting others in the team. In Duel Monsters, these are independent for each Player, which is why the Merchants chased Hayato but ignored Yugi and the others.
"That guy Hayato, looks like he successfully escaped," Joey Wheeler noticed that several Merchants were posting Wanted Posters that suddenly appeared in their hands. The yellowish paper depicted Hayato running away with a sack of Cards on his back, and below it was a Prize Money of up to 100,000.
"The Prize Money is as high as 100,000, that's probably the highest number we've seen in a while," Joey Wheeler said, looking at the Wanted Poster. "Speaking of which, isn't this number a bit too exaggerated? I remember the most expensive Card I saw just now, Relinquished, was only priced at 10,000."
"It's not exaggerated. Don't forget, Brother Hayato just swept up all the Cards. The price of those Cards is roughly 100,000. It's still worth it for the shop owner to spend 100,000 to buy those Cards back."
Keipei glanced at the boss of the Card stall that had just been robbed. In the time it took the three of them to turn their heads, his previously empty stall was refreshed with Cards again. "Although, that guy doesn't seem to lack Cards."
"However, if Hayato is wanted now, does that mean he can't enter the city?" Yugi frowned.
Joey Wheeler also had a troubled Expression: "That guy, this is just the Virtual World. He can't take the Cards out after stealing them, and he's even wanted himself. Isn't that too much of a loss?"
"I actually feel it's alright. Speaking of which, this photo is too low-quality. Do you think if I took a selfie and provided it to those Merchants, they'd be willing to change the photo?"
Joey Wheeler casually replied, "How could something like that be possib—"
"Huh!?" He suddenly reacted. Who was talking to him just now?
Turning his head sharply, Joey Wheeler saw Hayato wearing a doctor's white coat, looking at his Wanted Poster with interest. Several Merchants who were posting the wanted notices walked by, and he even nodded towards them without any shyness, showing approval.
"Brother Hayato?" Keipei was also surprised. "You, I clearly saw you being chased and running away just now? And, aren't you wanted?"
Hearing Keipei say the name "Hayato," the gazes of some NPCs suddenly turned over, looking at the group suspiciously.
"When did you get the misconception that the person running away was me?" Hayato smiled and showed the Cards in his hand, which were Interdimensional Matter Transporter, Stand In, and First-Aid Squad whose clothes had Unaccountably disappeared.
Going back to when they were still in the Undead Burial Ground, after the Battle where Hayato commanded VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon to bombard the Zombie army with Firepower, he found a new Side Quest added to his System—
[Side Quest: Rule Breaker]
[High EQ: Your Duels never follow convention; Low EQ: Your thinking is quite non-human. How could someone like you possibly play the game strictly according to the Rules?]
[Destroy Rules in the current world 0/5]
[Based on the Rules Destroyed, randomly unlock one of the Achievements—"World Breaker," "Beater," "I Am The Rules"]
[Reward Preview: Specified Race Construction Card Pack*1, Mysterious Reward]
[Behavior detected: "Adults, times have changed," record Quest progress? ]
According to the System's explanation, any behavior Hayato exhibited that didn't fit the current game background, or directly Destroyed the Rules, could increase the Quest progress. It was precisely for this reason that after clearing the Monsters in the Undead Burial Ground, Hayato wanted to directly use VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon to clear the Forest blocking the way, to increase his Quest progress.
And the previous Card robbery was also for the purpose of completing the Quest.
Hayato first used Gaia the Fierce Knight to attract the attention of others, then at that moment used Stand In to create a double identical to himself in appearance to continue running away. His real body used Interdimensional Matter Transporter to hide in another dimension, and then took the opportunity to strip the First-Aid Squad's clothes and cover his original Texture clothes.
Unexpectedly, Hayato also unlocked two more "Destroy Rules" behaviors because of this.
"Using heavy Firepower in a fantasy world," "Ignoring transaction Rules to rob," "Evading Punishment Rules," and "Using Mods to overwrite character models." Hayato only needed to Destroy one more Rule to complete this Side Quest.
"Well, as you can see, for now, I can't use the character name 'Hayato,' since I'm wanted, right?" Looking at the clothes on his body, Hayato said with a smile, "From now on, just call me Pediatrician or Genius Player M."
"Watch me Clear Game in One Life!"
[Behavior detected: "Illegal Name Change," record Quest progress? ]
[Yes]
[Side Quest: Rule Breaker completed, please claim your Reward]
"Well, whatever about that, let's hurry and save Brother," Keipei said with a helpless Expression, like a little adult.
"Okay, let's split up for now and go around gathering Information," Yugi suggested, then as if remembering something, he looked at Hayato worriedly, "If possible, let's not cause too much of a commotion."
Hayato confidently patted his chest: "Don't worry, I'm a very low-key person, and I especially follow the Rules."
What exactly this Side Quest is for will be revealed soon.
